As soon as they reached the lodging house Spot turned on Misprint. "Ya lied ta me!"
"Spot I'se sorry but it wasn't all me fault."
"Yeah an' how's dat?"
"I'se nevah said I'se a guy you'se jus' assumed…" Spot cut her off with a glare. ' 'E sounds jus' like pa when 'e'd come 'ome drunk.'
"Ya din't say we'se was wrong!"
"I'se sorry," Misprint mumbled as she gazed at her shoes, "but would ya uh let me stay if ya knew da truth?"
Spot took a breath to calm down, she was right the boys wouldn't have let her stay. In an attempt to get rid of her until he calmed down Spot said, "why don' ya go get changed? Ya dripping all ovah da floor."
She looked up at him with desperation in her eyes, "You'se don' 'ate me?"
"Nah, guess I'se a li'l shocked dat's all. Now dat I t'ink ah it it do make sense dough."
"It does?"
"You'se nevah went swimmin' an' you'se'd use da wash room b'fore we woke up, an' jus' 'bout everyt'ing else it all adds up, jus' took a while ta see."
With everything said Misprint went up to change. She put on her dry clothes and dried her hair with a towel, only then did she realize she'd lost her hat. She smiled to herself, she didn't have to hide her hair anymore. ' 'Sides it'll be easier ta con people outta dere money fer "a poor goil."'
Misprint walked down the stairs and saw Spot waiting for her, he had a dazed look on his face. He shook his head slightly when she smiled, "Come on da boys are pro'ly still at da docks." She hurried down the stairs and out the door with Spot.

Spot watched as Misprint came down the stairs, she looked beautiful. Her blond hair reached her shoulder blades and when she smiled it lit up her entire face. Reality suddenly hit him and he shook his head, "Come on da boys are pro'ly still at da docks." They left the lodging house and walked side by side.
As they walked back to the docks Spot filled the time with talking about the fight. "'Ow did ya beat Mike and Johnny if alls ya do is dodge?"
"I'se can fight I jus' don' wanna 'urt any of me friends." She smiled at Spot and he gave her a skeptical look. "'Sides dey made me mad, and reminded me uh someone I used ta know."
"Who's dat?"
"Me fadda, 'e always 'ad a bad tempah, and yo'se nevah wanted ta be 'round when it came out. Seein' dose two 'urtin' Scrap brought back too many memories."
Spot understood the feeling, his father always used to beat him until he ran away. He quietly asked, "dat why ya left?"
"'E had somt'ing ta do wit it, but I'se also wanted ta find me brudda." Anxious to change the subject Misprint brought up the fight again. "Ya know ya can't really say nothin' 'bout me not fightin' cause you'se din't beat me. In fact since you'se called it off I t'ink dat means I won," she smirked.
Taking the hint Spot smirked, "you'se would uh lost, I jus' saved ya da 'umiliation by stoppin' it."
Misprint gave him an indignant glare, "You'se full uh it, Conlon."
"You'se t'ink ya could beat me?" Spot asked shocled.
"I ain't gonna try, don' wanna bruise yer ego," Misprint smirked.
Spot laughed as they reached the docks, where the rest of the boys were. The majority of the Brooklyn newsies were glaring at Misprint who was conveniently hidden behind Spot. Spot stopped laughing as he saw his boys, "What 're dose looks for? It's still Misprint, nothin's changed."
"She lied ta us!" someone shouted.
Spot returned the glare to each of the boys, then turned around to face Misprint. "Why don' cha take a walk I'se gotta talk ta me boys."
She nodded, "Sure Spot." She stepped out from behind him and turned to face the boys, "I'se real sawry," she mumbled and then left. Spot watched her run off towards the lodging house, then turned to face his boys.
"Wha's da mattah wit you'se!?"
Some of the boys averted their gazes finding the ground very fascinating, other continued to stare at Spot. "She's a goil, she can't stay 'ere," one of the older boys, Fists said.
"An' why not?!" Spot demanded. "she's been staying 'ere fer da past week."
There were murmurs of agreement from the other boys. "It don' mattah anyways, I ain't kickin' a goil out on the streets in Brooklyn. If she's out dere by 'erself she'll only get 'urt."
Everyone knew of Misprint's stubborn streak that was bound to get her into trouble. "Yeah, Misprint does 'ave a way uh gettin' inta trouble," Marbles and several others laughed.
"So it's settled she's stayin'."
"Yeah Spot."
"Sure Spot."
"Yeah, I'se wouldn't mind gettin' ta know 'er bettah if ya know what I'se sayin'," Tracks said and several of the older boys laughed.

Misprint ran all the way to the lodging house. 'I'se can't stay 'ere dey 'ate me,' she thought as she gathered her few belongings. After she was all packed she took one last look at the one place that actually felt like home. 'I'll miss all uh dem.' A lone tear trickled down her cheek as she went down the stairs.
When Misprint reached the lobby she found a scrap of paper and wrote a good-bye note to Spot and the boys. Leaving the note by the ledger book she left the lodging house in search of a place to stay.

Spot walked into the lodging house in search of Misprint. He saw here running towards here when he was talking with the guys. He looked around the lobby and didn't see her so he went up the stairs to the bunkroom. When he reached her bunk by the corner he noticed all her stuff gone. Spot cursed to himself as he ran down the stairs to find Jimmy their caretaker. He stopped as he saw the saddened look on Jimmy's face, and the note he was holding out for Spot. "It's from Misprint, must've left it when I went ta get the groceries."
Spot took the note and read it:
Heya guys
I'm really sorry I lied to you. I never wanted to cause any trouble, but don't worry I'll stay out of your hair. You guys were great, made this place feel like home. I'll miss all of you. I'll see you around sometime.
Your Friend,
Misprint
Spot slammed his fist down when he was done reading. "Dang dat goil!"
Scrap and several others who were coming to look for Spot and Misprint all looked at Spot with concern. "Wha's da mattah Spot?" Scrap asked.
Spot sighed, "Misprint left." He turned around and went back out the door to start looking for her, all the other boys followed.
"Spot I'se sorry but it wasn't all me fault."
