Champion's Death

Sup! If you couldn't tell already, this is my own take on what happened after Memory 15. I'm gonna dive into what each Champion went through to get to their Divine Beast, how they first encountered their respective Blights, and what each of them was thinking before they drew their last breath. I'm gonna stay as close to the source material as I can, so I won't be taking any creative liberalities like Hyrule Warriors. I'm also gonna include some lore bits that the causal Zelda fan might not be aware of, so look forward to that! I'll be switching between each Champion in accordance to order in which they died. Don't know how brutal I'ma go with the fight/death scenes. I'm still relatively knew at this, so I guess will see. Well, with that out of the way, please enjoy!

Chapter 1

Revali POV

I grew up hearing stories of Ganon.

My father often told me stories of the entity and its many forms throughout the ages and the horrors it inflicted on Hyrule. At the time, I remember being both scared, and confused. In one story, he talked about Ganon as if he was a person, even saying that he once fostered a coup and took the throne of Hyrule for himself. But then in another story, he talked about Ganon as if he was nothing more than a mindless beast, whose only inclination was to destroy everything in sight. So one day, I asked my father,

"Well, which is it?"

My father looked down at me, his eyes twinkling with humour.

"What is it you mean Revali?"

"Ganon, Dad!" I responded exasperatedly "was he a man or a beast?"

My dad looked away from me, and a thoughtful expression crossed his face. His eyebrows furrowed like they often did before he scolded me for doing something wrong (which most likely happened a lot).

"He was once a man," my father started "but his lust for more power, and his anger towards the princess and hero of that time, transformed him into something else entirely. They say that his evil is one that has endured for the ages, and has plunged the world of light into darkness on more than one occasion. By the end of it all, he was neither man nor beast, he is simply…Ganon."

My father, like me, had a flair for the dramatic. Made him a little too good at telling stories like this. I could practically hear my heart in my ears. I couldn't stop myself from shaking with fear. My father didn't seem to notice, however.

"I think that's enough stories for tonight Revali, time for bed," He said as he began to set me down on the bed, but I clung to him, refusing to let him go.

"Revali..?" My father questioned

I didn't respond, ashamed of how afraid I felt, but still refusing to let go.

My father, bless his soul, seemed to understand and asked softly "would you like to stay with me tonight?

I waited for a few seconds, then nodded my head. My father picked me up and carried me to his room. Once there, we laid in the bed together, and he kept me close to his heart. I felt his chest rise and fall, and I could tell he was seconds away from falling asleep. But before he did, I had one final question for him.

"Dad?"

"Yes, my son?"

"What will we do if Ganon returns?

"When evil rises, good will rise as well to face it."

I pause for a few seconds,

"Do you think..if I trained hard enough...that I could become strong enough to defeat Ganon?"

My father makes a humming noise at the back of his throat, something he only does when he's nervous. He then pulls me closer to him.

"That, my son, is a question I pray you will never have to answer."

And with that, I allowed myself to drift off into sleep, listening to the sound of my father's heartbeat.

Present Day

Even after that chat with my father, I never took the threat of Calamity Ganon seriously. I mean, sure, he was dangerous, but so was I. But then I felt it, or rather, we all did.

I and the other champions had gathered at the Lanayru East Gate, waiting for Princess Zelda and her…knight. She had gone up to the Spring of Wisdom, in hopes that she might be able to unlock this so-called "sealing power" through prayer. While I do hold some form of sympathy for her, as I too struggled with perfecting my own amazing power, the idea that the key to unlocking this power was kneeling in the water and talking to statues is simply preposterous. If you ask me, the best way to learn is through a trial by fire. I suggested we send one of those Guardians after her as a way of shocking her power into action, but Urbosa shoot me down immediately, saying that "Zelda will come through when it counts, don't you worry.". Her motherly feelings toward Zelda are blinding her from the reality of the situation. I'm sure the Gerudo Cheiftan means well. After all, she's the only champion with whom I have any real respect. The other champions are…fine I suppose. But Mipha lacks the attitude of a warrior, and Daruk treats this war as a big game. And as for Link…well my feelings regarding him require no further elaboration.

Anyways, Zelda and Link return from the mountain, and from the looks on both of their faces (well, Zelda's face anyway), it seems their journey bore no fruit. As everyone was busy giving Zelda a pep talk, the ground shook with a force I'd never felt before. With a quick Revali's Gale, I shot up into the sky, and look into the distance, in the direction of Hyrule Castle. And what I see shook me to my very core.

A dark stormcloud had formed over Hyrule Castle, with pink lightning and deafening thunder to boot. A mass of black and rouge smoke was swirling around the base of Hyrule Castle, engulfing it and castle town. And in the middle of it all, just barely above Hyrule Castle itself, there was a single mass of black smoke. It was hard to make out, but it seemed to be moving with sentience. It had no real form, just two bright yellow eyes and what seemed to be tusks. It unhinged its jaw, and let out a horrifying, inhumane roar. It shook the very earth, and I could feel the weight of his presence even from here. This… is beyond anything we could have prepared for.

I land back on the ground, and before I can say anything, Urbosa speaks up.

"It's here," Urbosa says grimly

"This is it, then…" Daruk says, lacking his usual enthusiasm.

"Are you sure?" Mipha asks in a worried voice

"Positive," I confirm.

"It's awake," Zelda says "Ganon!"
