Someone to Watch Over Me: Epilogue
By Jedi Adia

This is how I think the season 5 episode of "Someone to Watch Over Me" should have ended.

Disclaimers: I don't own any of the characters from the Star Trek universe. They belong to Gene Roddenberry, who probably bequeathed them to his wife Majel and other producers, writers, directors, etc. back in the late 80's

...The Doctor sat down in sickbay and put his head in his hands. He had
been a fool to think she'd actually loved him. He jumped up when the door
hissed open. "Seven-"

"I'm sorry. Were you expecting someone else?" Chakotay said.

"Commander! No, I-" The Doctor sat back down. "I wasn't expecting anyone.
I don't know why I would. I was a fool...I really was." He turned to his
computer console and retrieved a file that had been awaiting his attention
for quite some time.

"Doctor..." Chakotay put his hand on the other's shoulder. "What
happened?"

"I told you. I made a total fool of myself today. I don't know how..."

"How what?" Chakotay asked. Then he realized. "Who is she?" The Doctor
said nothing. "You going to make me guess?"

The Doctor stopped and sat back in his chair, turning so that he could
look Chakotay in the face. How was he supposed to tell him? A Borg and a
hologram? How unrealistic was that?

"I won't say anything. I promise," Chakotay said.

"So you really want to know? Well, fine, I'll tell you!" The Doctor stood
up and faced the commander. "It's Seven, all right? I love her, and I
thought she loved me, but I guess that isn't the case, and never was!" There
was silence. "Don't you have something to say. Some guidance from an animal
spirit perhaps?"

"All I can tell you is...stranger things have happened. And besides, it
isn't you. You've got to remember that Seven isn't completely human."

"Oh, I should know that. I have all of her medical scans from the past
year in the database," the Doctor retorted.

"Just give her time. You never know...she may come around," Chakotay said.
He turned to leave.

"Commander, was there something you needed. I may be only a hologram, but
something tells me you didn't come here to advise me on my love life," the
Doctor said.

"It can wait. You just think about what I said," Chakotay said before
walking out.

Chakotay had no sooner left than the door hissed open again. "Commander-"
the Doctor said, expecting to see Chakotay again.

"Were you expecting someone else?" Seven said.

"No...actually you're just the person I wanted to see. I-"

"Doctor, there's something I've been wanting to ask you," Seven said.
"Would you like to go out to dinner?"

"Well, normally the man extends the invitation..."

"Is this normal? A hologram and a Borg?"

"No...I guess not."

"Then, will you go out to dinner with me?" Seven asked. There was a pause.
"I believe the polite response would be yes?"

"Yes...yes it would," the Doctor said. Seven stepped forward and kissed
him. He was taken aback, as this was not the right way according to his
dating manual, but he didn't care. He only kissed her back.
