Gethsemane

Gethsemane

It's "not my will but thine," He said.

Yes, "not my will but thine" instead.

While doing not His favorite thing,

He knows because of Him we'll sing.

Because He said "Okay, I'll go,"

Though "not my will but thine," I know

That now throughout eternity,

We'll always have the chance to see

The sacrifice He made for all

Though not His choice He took the fall.

For all of us He bore the cross;

Because of Him there'll be no loss.

Although we may not want to do

What's necessary, we'll come through.

Before His love we were not worth

The causes for His special birth.

Until that day at Calvary,

When Jesus died for you and me.

The pain that He chose to endure

Insures our place forevermore.

Because for us He did abide,

And now we have Him on our side.

So now, you see, what you don't like

May be your passage to what's right.

So grit your teeth and pray you'll fare

What is unwanted—hey, you'll bear.
