"I have to admit, I'm surprised you were ready on time." Sydney told Adrian as he got into her car. "I was expecting to wait at least 15 minutes for you."

She was picking him up on her way back to Clarence's, and was surprised to find Adrian already waiting for her at the curb when she arrived.

He smiled at her as he fastened his seat belt.

"I guess you're rubbing off on me, Sage."

Sydney smiled to herself as she pulled out of the apartment complex.

"I hope everyone is okay with Thai food for dinner because that's what I got on the way to come pick you up."

Adrian turned to look at the backseat and saw two plastic bags filled with food containers.

"That restaurant was a hit last time, so I'm sure there won't be any complaints."

After a few beats, Adrian added. "Thanks for picking up the food, by the way. And for picking me up on the way back to Clarence's. I know it goes beyond your job duties."

Sydney simply nodded, not knowing how to respond to that.

Picking up food and essentially acting as a chauffeur was definitely not part of the job description. But if she was being honest with herself, she didn't mind doing it.

Sure, she could say that she did it to avoid possible problems in the future… but that wouldn't be entirely true. She also did it because she enjoyed helping them. She did it because it came naturally to want to help her friends.

"The food smells great but you know what doesn't smell great?"

Sydney frowned at Adrian's question.

Is he trying to tell me I don't smell good?

"Me." Adrian said in response to his own question.

"What are you talking about?"

Adrian sighed dramatically before responding.

"I don't smell great because I just ran out of my favorite cologne."

Sydney rolled her eyes. "A real tragedy."

"I'm serious, Sage. I'll have to rely on my superior natural scent until I can save up enough money to buy a new bottle."

"Then you're definitely overpaying for your cologne."

Adrian shook his head. "I can't believe you said that."
