"Korra… are you sure you don't want me to hang out with you? I don't mind." Her one and only, beloved best friend, Asami, asked over the phone.
Letting out a sigh, Korra slammed the back of her head against the couch. "Don't worry about me Sams, go have fun at the party! You're not the dumb one who broke their leg." She then glanced down at the thick white cast, covered in light blue tape, on her right foot with a blank face. "Besides, it's not like Halloween is every day! It's the best party of the year!" She exclaimed with a bright voice.
Asami's soft chuckle made Korra feel not alone. "Yeah but I feel bad… I know you were looking forward to the party the most."
Korra couldn't help but bite her lip. Asami knew her so well but she also knew that Asami was looking forward to it as well.
"That doesn't mean you should miss out though! Don't worry, I googled a list of the top horror movers to binge and door-dashed a bunch of snacks."
"What? Korra, you're gonna… binge horror movers all day long?"
"Yeah, why not?"
"Because you don't like them that's why."
"Oh come on, down be such a downer! Believe in me, you know I have to be festive and go all out for all holidays!"
Her friend sighed. "Don't blame me if you have nightmares until the end if the year then."
What could go wrong?"

"AAAHHHHHHHHH!" Korra screamed at the top of her lungs, "FUCK—"
She immediately yanked the blanket over her head before shivering in place. Ah, that's right, there was a reason why she only indulged in horror-themed anything once a year.
"This was a bad idea. This was a bad idea. This was a bad idea. This was a bad idea."
She started rocking back and forth and singing nonsense out loud to distract the TV noises.
"La la la la la la! I can't hear anything! La la la!"
The intensity of the eerie noises was rising. Korra ended up following in its steps and her cries shrieked before she scrambled for the remote and cut the power. She then tossed the remote aside before rocking herself back and forth in place. "Oh fuck fuck fuck…" she began sweating before a random noise in the distance made her jump.
"AAHHH!"
She flinched before her hand automatically snapped to her cell phone. Her thumb quickly dialed a number and it began ringing as she brought it up to her ear.
"Fuck fuck fuckfuckfuck! Pick up pick up… please…"
Each ring felt like an eternity and Korra was about to give up on the fourth ring when the line picked up. The voice she wanted to hear was blending in with loud music and chattering but even so, it stood out clearly, enough to calm Korra down a little.
"Hello?"
Korra's lips were fluttering as she tried to find her words.
"Korra? Are you there? Are you okay? What's going on?"
"A-Asami…" her eyes watered up, "I-I fucked up!" Pellets of tears began dripping onto the couch. "I-I can't stop shaking… the world is shaking and I can't breathe. I'm scared." She vaguely heard some shuffling and shortly enough, Asami's voice cleared up. The faint chatters from the crowd washed away and she heard a car start.
"I'll be right there. Talk to me. Can you hear my voice?"
She curled into an awkward ball. Her leg was in the way and she had never hated the inconvenience of this injury more than ever. "Y-Yeah… I can hear you."
"Good." Her voice was so soothing and the pain panging in Korra's chest lightened up. "So, tell me? Did you end up getting pizza? Please tell me you did. This party… as fun as it was, the food honestly sucked."
Korra sniffled before laughing softly. "Yeah, yeah I did."
"Thank the spirits." She let out a soft groan of relief.
Smiling at her happy tone, Korra wiggled in place before adding. "You're favorite too, veggie pizza with extra onions."
Asami moaned again. "You know how much I love you right?"
A bashful grin formed on Korra's face. "It's good to be reminded."
Her best friend's laughter made her feel warm at the tip of her fingers. All of the sudden, there was a sudden shift in Asami's tone. "I love you."
Korra's heart skipped a beat. Her face grew warm and her chest was pounding rapidly. She knew that Asami said it in a platonic way but even so… hearing that phrase come from her voice made her feel alive. When she finally snapped out of this trance, she shook her head before quickly poking back. "Yeah, I love you too."
xXx
Sadly enough, Asami's phone died just when she reached the parking lot so they had to hang up. The bright side though was that she was just a few steps away so she wasn't going to be alone anymore. Her room was just so damn quiet though that the eerieness of living alone was creeping up on her. Her breathing started to shake again. She bit down hard, taking deep breaths trying not to faint until there was a soft knock on the door and that made Korra jump like crazy.
"AAAHH!"
She jumped back into her couch, snapping her eyes at the door.
"Korra…? It's me, Asami, I'm coming in okay?" Her voice explained as the doorknob rattled.
Her lips thinned out and Korra stared at the door until it clicked open. Asami's head poked through the door and her brain froze. Part of the reason was that her best friend was finally here, so bless the spirits, and another part of it was because of her costume. Her costume. No one should have looked so damned good wearing a damned Ravenclaw uniform from Harry Potter of all things but she just looked so fucking stunning. She wasn't even wearing her contacts either since she was wearing her glasses, which Korra found endearing really, so it added a charm to her look.
"A-Asami…" Korra finally managed to squeak out. Her eyes teared up from all the rushing emotions that began to wash over her. "Y-You're here!"
Deep concern fell onto Asami's face as she shut the door and welcomed herself in. Once her shoes were off, she quickly set down her belongings before briskly walking over to the couch. "Oh, Korra…" she rested a knee on the couch before leaning in to hug her friend. "What did you do?"
Korra whimpered with teary eyes before latching onto Asami. "Nothing!" She sniffled as continued to shake. "I was just watching these damned movers! At some point, this room got so cold and every random noise was making me jump. I swear, I was starting to see some things! What if a ghost pops out from the screen!"
"Aww…" Asami started shushing her friend soothingly. "It's okay Kor… you're not alone, I'm here with you now."
"I know…" Korra took in a deep breath, taking in her perfume. "Thank you."
Asami looked down at the crown of Korra's head before smiling softly. She patted her head soothingly until Korra's shaking stopped before asking, "Sorry, not that I don't mind this position… I'm actually pretty hungry," she laughed somewhat embarrassingly. "Do you mind if I snag some of that pizza?"
Korra's eyes widened and she immediately detached herself from Asami's body with a deep blush. She ignored the rude coldness that came before scampering out, "Oh shit— sorry— uh, yeah! Go for it! Help yourself! The plates and parm cheese are in their usual spot."
"Thanks." Her voice was light and it made Korra's chest tingle.
As Korra watched Asami move around in her kitchen, she curled up into an awkward ball again. She fiddled and squirmed before finally speaking up.
"Sorry."
Asami spared her a glance before inquiring, "For what?"
"For you know… bother you this late…" she looked at the time on her phone that barely had any battery left. "Or well this early, damn… it's 2AM."
Her best friend laughed at that. "Wow, guess I'm pulling an all-nighter." She joked before giving her a warm smile, "But really though, it's nothing. You know I'd drop everything for you in a heartbeat."
The way Asami said that with the look she was giving her made Korra's cheeks heat up again. Her ears felt warm before she couldn't keep eye contact with those beautiful eyes and broke away. "T-Thanks… I'd do the same for you too, Asami."
Asami smiled sweetly at her. "Thanks." The pizza was finally ready and she grabbed a slice before concluding, "Let me finish this real quick and we can go back to cuddling."
Korra fiddled with her thumbs. "O-Okay…"
xXx
Since Korra's leg was in a cast, she ended up becoming the little spoon as they sat in the corner of the L-shaped couch. Her right leg was extended out on the longer half of the couch and her other leg was crossed inward. Asami was pretty much sitting the same way Korra was as the big spoon except the only difference was that her arms were wrapped around Korra's torso. She wasn't hugging her tightly per se but with enough pressure to keep her snuggly.
It's been probably almost an hour now since Asami had finished her pizza and they had fallen down the rabbit hole of watching puppy and kitty videos on Youtube. Although given… that was after the fact that they had this awkward moment.
It happened probably about ten minutes after they had begun watching Youtube. Korra was still antsy for various reasons but the sudden self-consciousness of Asami's front side pressing up against her back made her nervous for some reason even though there was no reason for that, it wasn't as if they hadn't cuddled before. They were best friends so, of course, they have!
What made matters worse in the first actually was when Korra turned slightly to look back at Asami. Asami still had her same old warm smile but Korra noticed that her ears were a bit red at the tips. Why was that? That's never happened before, at least that she knew of. That made Korra blush for some reason and she quickly snapped her head forward back at the TV. She blamed this weird tension on the horror movers.
Yeah, pshhh, of course, that was the reason why.
Stupid horror movers.
Best friends cuddle all the time so there was no reason why her heart should be fluttering! Right? Oh geez, did Asami notice that? Korra hoped she didn't. She was her best friend. She was just scared shitless from watching horror movers all day long. Nothing more, nothing less.
Her mind was racing a billion thoughts at once and after many many puppy videos later, she finally calmed down. The coziness of Asami's warmth made her feel safe that she was honestly falling asleep. That and the fact that she had been up since the sun rose, topping that with mover bingeing, and that it was approaching three something AM. She was tired. Like seriously tired that her eyes were glued shut even though she was still conscious.
The sweet warmth and nice smell of Asami's scent were embracing her in this cozy trance. Her head began nodding off and she could have sworn Asami held her even tighter. Not to mention the small circles that Asami was drawing on her stomach that made her knockout. Korra was quite comfortable for some time until a bad dream hit her. She began stirring uncomfortably and some noise that sounded all too real made her jump and scream out loud.
"AAAHHH!"
Asami jumped up from the sudden scream and quickly held Korra closer to her body.
"What?! What's wrong Korra?"
"I— I heard a noise!"
Her best friend made a confused face before calmly cooing at her. "Hey, it's okay. Just breathe, we're the only ones here."
"B-But—"
"Korra… it's okay, I'm here with you. You're okay, no monster or ghost is going to get to you when I'm here. Not on my watch, understand?" She sternly said while keeping eye contact, giving her a firm look.
Pursing her lips, Korra took some breaths, focusing on Asami's clear and vibrant eyes until her thumping chest slowed down. She suddenly felt ashamed of herself before turning away and mumbling to herself.
"Sorry…" it wasn't exactly quiet enough for Asami not to hear since they were still cuddling with each other closely of course.
"You don't have to apologize for anything Kor."
"But Sams… you could have been home a long time ago. I know you were looking forward to that party too and I pulled you away!"
"Korra that's not…"
Scoffing at herself, Korra began spiraling out of nowhere. "Yet here you are, sitting on my couch 'cause I'm too damn scared to be alone! I'm such an asshole! How can I do that to you? What kind of best friend am I?! You could have been in a toasty bed and—"
"Korra!" Asami cut off before injecting. "I was only looking forward to going to the party with you."
"I know, exactly, you were gonna—" she froze when Asami's words finally registered. "Wait what—"
"You heard me," Asami confirmed before giving her a soft smile. "I was only looking forward to going to the party because of you. I wanted to go with you but then, you know." She looked forward and nodded toward her leg. "To be honest… it wasn't really that fun. You don't know how many times I had to dodge guys who were trying to get in my pants… I missed you."
"Sams…" Korra looked Asami in the eyes and a moment of silence fell between them when suddenly, Korra blushed.
Asami gave her a look, wondering as to why, when the realization hit her. Her cheeks grew heavily red as well and she snapped her head away trying to look anywhere but into Korra's eyes. "Oh— uh um, you know! I just uh… everyone was boring that's all. I um, you know how I am! I don't laugh easily and the party was so bland and uh…"
"Heh," Korra chuckled before cupping Asami's cheek and pulling her so they were face to face. She made eye contact before slowly leaning in. "Hey, Sams…?"
Gulping once, Asami began leaning back until her back hit the couch. She ended up eyeing Korra's lips before asking, "Yeah?" She could feel Korra's breath against her skin as her best friend asked.
"Can I kiss you?"
Asami's breath hitched with a quiet gasp before swallowing again. She looked into Korra's eyes before back down at her lips. Her heart began to race and her eyes were burning as she bashfully answered.
"Yes."
Korra gulped lightly before slowly leaning in. The whole process was somewhat awkward since neither of them knew what to do or if they should close their eyes. Ultimately, their lips touched before they shut their eyes. It was a short peck and they both leaned back with a heavy blush. They end up looking at each other bashfully in the eyes before Korra found some courage and asked again.
"You um… wanna kiss again?"
Asami thought Korra would never ask.
"Yes."
Their lips touched again but this time with less hesitation. It was a vocal peck but they parted with a feverish haze before Korra commented again.
"Your lips are so soft."
Breathing out carefully, Asami bit her lip before agreeing. "Yours too."
Their warm faces never left as they lay there in silence. Sure enough, Asami picked at her fingers before daring to ask.
"S-So… when'd you find out?"
Korra nervously wiggled in her arms before looking off to the side. "Honestly… I'm not sure. I've probably liked you for a really long time. You?"
Asami winced before clearing her voice quietly. "Since freshman year…"
That made her best friend raise an eyebrow. "Last year?"
She shook her head.
Korra pursed her lips as she stared at Asami before her face lit up. "High school?!"
She nodded slowly with a flushed face.
"Oh my spirits… for real? How did I not know?!"
"To be fair… I didn't know either. I wasn't sure what I felt about you at the time but thinking back to it now, it was definitely a crush."
That made Korra blush sweetly. "Oh… I um… thanks I guess?"
Asami closed her eyes before giving her a dry laugh. A second asked before Korra started.
"So…"
"So…?" Asami harmlessly repeated.
Korra bit her lip before asking. "Now what?"
Her best friend only gave her a blank face. "What as in…?"
"What are we now?"
"That's…"
"I like you Asami!" Korra blurted out of the blue. "I like you a lot!"
Asami immediately blushed again before confessing back. "I— I like you too!"
"W-W-Wi—will you be my girlfriend?"
Only a smile grew on Asami's face. "Yes Korra, I'd love to."
