Red,
Raised in Pallet Town,
Age:10
He woke up a big yawn, he sat up, turning his head to avoid hitting his head on the ceiling. He scooted off before jumping town from the top bunk. Crouching as he landed with a thump, he stood and stretched. As he lets out a fresh breath of air he hears the snoozes of his brothers and sisters behind him, 30 in total, with him being the current oldest, and the second oldest being 8.
He opened the chest by his bunk bed, pulling out a pair of jeans with a few holes around the knees, slipped on a red shirt and put a blue sweater over it. He took his bag, slinging it over his shoulder, he was so excited he had packed it a day prior with his cleanest clothes. He walked out, the morning sun shining through the windows along the hallway wall. As he entered what could only be described as a cricked cafeteria he was met with 2 familiar faces.
"Morning!" He exclaimed.
The woman sighed, her hazel hair lined with a few greys and a few small wrinkles around her eyes "Please tell me you slept?" She said turning away from the steaming pot.
"Good morning to you." The man beside her said with a cheerful smile. He was in his 20s, way younger than the woman and a welcome help around the home. "Got everything ready?"
"Yep!" Red grinned and sat on the chair at the far right of the large table. The table was long, fit for a feast for the whole family.
The woman groaned "Remember what I taught you. And try to be positive."
"Yea yea I know." He said dismissively before getting a soft smack in the back of the head.
"I'm serious." She said sternly standing beside him as she set a bowl in front of him "I don't wanna lose another one out there."
He groaned and rubbed his arm anxiously.
She leaned and kissed his head before patting his back "Ill walk you over their later."
"AH CRAP!"
They both turned seeing the man swat away at a Rattata. It jumps to the floor and darts for a hole in the wall.
"Again!" The woman exclaimed angrily pulling out a pokeball that releases a Arbok.
The Arbok hisses violently and at a supernatural speed slithers toward the Rattata and coils around it. Strangling it as the Rattata hisses and cries before going limp, prompting the Arbok to swallow it whole.
"I swear they just keep coming." She sighs.
"I gotta have Growlithe look for holes again." The man says annoyed.
Rattata have always been around, hell the damn things chipped through the wooden walls and made their home in them, once a year some kids get sick, and even worse some die from the Rattatas Poo getting in the food, not to mention when they get sick they seek out warmth and come here making us sick.
"Once I get my Pokémon I'll come back and take care of the Rattata problem." Red proclaims.
The woman frowned "No, your a starting trainer, you should be going out and seeing the world. Arbok can handle Rattata."
"I have a feeling it'll get tired of Rattata..." the man says with a chuckle pointing toward Arboks obviously big stomach.
"Then I'll just have to find an Ekans." She said walking back to the kitchen. "Anyway, I don't want you helping. Not saying you can't but Rattata are quite vengeful, I don't want this becoming more of a bigger problem."
Red sighed and nodded.
"I know your hearts in the right place but fighting off the Rattata in their own territory is just asking to be hurt. And we can't afford an exterminator so picking them off when we see them is all we can do."
"Besides they've been appearing less since I caught that Pigeotto." The man says pointing out front.
"Don't rush into a dragons den is all I'm saying." She said bluntly.
"I know..." he groans as he finished his soup.
"Damnien, could you wake up the kids?" The woman asks pulling the Arbok back into her pokeball.
"Of course, but what do I tell Melissa?" He asks.
"She already knows where I'm going, just keep an eye on them, and NO going outside until I get back. I know Melissa likes to spoil them." She says with a stern glare making Damien chuckle.
Red stands up and walks toward the door, his heart pumping like crazy, he's been waiting for this day.
After grabbing her purse she follows behind him as he opens the door.
"Have fun!" Damien shouts before they close the door.
Red walks ahead, humming a happy tune as they walk along the trail. He's walked this trail many times before. As they reach the edge of the trail toward the main neighborhood he's suddenly become emotional. The realization of not coming back through. Walking through he's greeted and congratulated on finally being old enough to become a pokemon trainer. Some encouraging him, but a few give him a worried glance, some older fold openly discouraging him, but they're words don't reach him as the woman plugs his ears.
He doesn't know when he'll walk back this way, or even if he'll have the chance too ever again. The only Pokémon he's ever had contact with is Arbok, Growlithe, and the Rattata thatd chatter through the walls and run along the floor. He's seen some crazy Pokémon on tv, but he can't even begin to imagine what else is out their.
He stops by a large shiny white building a bit worried with how quiet she'd been he turns before getting a surprise hug from her.
"I love you Red." She spoke in a soft voice. "I give you my best wishes and prey for your safe journey."
He begun to tear up, reaching out to hug her he feels her shaking in his arms.
"If it was up to me... I would never... let you go..."
He grunted as if his heart had been hit, is this really the last time? "I love you mom..."
"Be strong. Be true. Experience life to the fullest. Don't let this world bring you down, no matter how dark it gets. Okay?"
He gives a silent nod, it's so hard to say goodbye.
She pulls away with a gentle smile, wiping her tears away "Be safe, be kind, you better come back with a beautiful wife and a kid."
He chuckles choking down his crying.
"Your journey starts just in there. Go pick your Pokémon."
He sniffles wiping away his tears with his sleeve "I'll... make you proud..."
Her smile suddenly turns into a saddened expression as she starts crying "You... you already have... you... worked so hard for today... you've really grown... you can't imagine... how proud I am of you."
With watery eyes he smiles "Tell everyone I love them."
She nods waving him goodbye.
He runs over to her giving one last hug before walking to the doors of the lab. He takes a deep breath, wiping his watery eyes away before walking in.
He stares in amazement, technology he'd never even imagine sat on desks and tables, wires and hoses hooked together with other large machines. It was like walking into the future.
"I picked it first, so it's mine!"
Red hears the loud voice breaking his thoughts.
"Just because he's your grampa doesn't mean you can call dibs."
The loud feminine voice of another catches his attention. He walks past the machines to fine two kids, arguing over a pokeball.
"Now now no need to argue. If your so insistent on the same pokemon I'll just get another from the back." The grey haired adult said reasonably.
He's seen that adult before, he'd come up to the house and had assisted with getting rid of a Spearow problem in the attic, it's the reason they caught a pigeiotto. "Professor Oak!" He exclaimed running up to the 3.
The professor hummed in thought at the sight of the boy before gasping in surprise "Red! My boy look how you've grown!"
He smiles up at the professor before getting a glare from the kid in the dark blue shirt.
"Is it time already?" The professor continues with a hearty laugh.
Red immediately looks back to the professor and nods "Yep! Finally 10!"
"Wonderful!"
"You can't pick Charmander."
The conversation and the joy of the moment is halted by the blue shirt kid who frowns.
The professor sighs "Blue don't be rude! He should have the same options as you and anyone else."
"Yea!" The girl shouted with a angry pout.
"It's fine, I don't even know what that Pokémon is." Red chuckles taking a random pokeball off the table.
The professor gives him a curious look and chuckles "I suppose you'll be in for quite the adventure then."
Blue laughs hysterically, clutching his stomach at the idiocy he just heard.
The girl stares at him curiously and give a small frown.
"Blue don't be rude." The professor scolds him again. "How bout we see what Pokémon you chose?"
He nods and throws the pokeball, but it just bounces a few times before rolling toward the corner. "Huh?"
"Oh just double click the button on the pokeball." The professor explains.
Blues hysteria grows as he falls to the floor laughing.
The girl smiles nervously.
Red picks up the pokeball and double clicks the button causing it to open and release a gust of smoke. It quickly fades, revealing a blue turtle with a curly tail that stands on its two feet.
"Ooh a Squirtle." The professor nods approvingly.
Blue flinches and growls.
The girl sighs "I guess I'll just Bulbasaur..."
Red stares down at his Pokémon, the small Squirtle smiles at him and runs to hug his leg. He turns stuff for a moment, the thought of ever being this close to a new Pokémon startled him for a moment but he soon felt overcome with joy "So COOL!" He exclaimed and hugged the Squirtle back.
Blue huffed "A cheap Pokémon for a cheap trainer."
Red glared back "What's wrong with that? Got a problem?"
Blue taken aback by the sudden assertiveness goes quiet.
"I told you to not be rude!" The professor says sternly before holding out before them a red device "This, is your Pokédex, this will tell you what kind of Pokémon, it's type, and what we know about it. Please feel free to add new entries if you find out something new."
The three take the Pokédex's, Red in particular was surprised by the size of this device "You mean this can tell me about every Pokémon?"
"Yep." The professor nods with a huge grin, finally getting recognition for the knowledge they've accumulated "Any Pokémon you encounter in the wild you can learn about in your Pokédex."
Red, excited, opens it and puts in his Squirtle.
"Anyway, here are you'd poke balls." The professor says holding out a small bag to each of them. "With poke balls you can obviously capture Pokémon, and you can buy more at the poke mart."
Red puts the small bag in his backpack "So uh... what's the point of a pokemon trainer?"
The three stare at Red confused.
Blue sighs annoyed "It's to obvious become the strongest..."
"To catch as many Pokémon as you can?" The girl says.
"A pokemon trainer can be really anything." The professor chimes in "It's just a term we use to describe people raising pokemon. I suppose it's up to interpretation but it's mainly about catching Pokémon and making friends."
Red smiles and turns to his Squirtle "I hope we become best friends."
Squirtle chirps loudly and hops happily.
"How childish..." Blue waves dismissively as he leaves.
"I guess I'll be on my way, thank you professor." The girl bows before leaving.
Red glances toward the door before looking up at the professor "Is... is their anything we should be worried about?"
The professor looks down surprised at him, and frowns "Sadly... yes. If you see a group of people with a big red "R" on their shirt, alert the authorities immediately. They capture and steal Pokémon from the wild and trainers."
Red looks horrified for a moment and nods calming down "Ok, thank you professor." He bows before leaving.
Stepping outside he finds his mom to be gone, he feels a bit lonely not having anyone to go with him. He feels a tug on his pants and turns seeing his Squirtle look up at him worriedly. He smiles down at it and pets it smooth head "I hope we become best friends, I'll look out for you if you look out for me."
Squirtle chirps loudly and proudly.
Red nods "Yea, let the journey begin!" He says pumping his fist in the air.
Okay it's starting, so just a few words of warning. I am coming up with this story as I go, so I apologize if somethings seem off about certain characters. I only have a vague idea of certain plot points I want to explore. And the time in this story will be really weird. I plan to have the Kanto Saga take 2 years in world, so Red will be 12 by the time he leaves. But that might change. Red will be the main character of this entire story, and I will introduce more main characters as the story continues. At the moment it's Red, Blue, and (the girl) is Green. In the Johto Saga, (minor spoilers) but Red will be accompanied or meet up with Gold and Silver. Kinda like Ash but I'm not DEFINITELY NOT leaving him 10, I hate that Ash is still 10, so it's kinda like growing up this character. Red will be the main character and we will follow him, we will meet new and old characters along the way. If you don't like that then I'm sorry, but the Pokémon adventure manga already did the changing main character thing, and I want to keep the same main character but have him grow up, see him in his teen years and young adult life. It will be dark but it'll still have lighthearted tones and moments, this is a story about bonds and growing up. Mainly it's about the friends along the journey but with some twisted ideas sprinkled in. It'll hopefully be tense and nerve racking, but fun and relaxing. It's my first time making a story like this, and I only really have some planned points in the Kanto saga. Let me know some ideas you have for future events or give me some of thoughts on what this world could bring.
