(Here's a new chapter I hope you enjoy it! There wasn't much deviation until the very end, but I promise you it's a good one! Hope you enjoy this! Also my character is using the Model 70 as his suit from the comics. Send requests, kudos, favorites, follows, comments, love, suggestions, ladies, fanart if you're imposed, and keep being awesome! Until next time!)
My name is Ash Joaquin Stark and I'm intrigued. The money and revenue for Stark Industries has been skyrocketing lately. Not to anyone's surprise, but it was even more than I was calculating. Where was this new money coming from? Admittedly, I have been spending my time focusing on the team rather than the company. But can you blame me? They're awesome.
As much as Victor Grimes kind of rubbed me the wrong way, I had to admit that whatever he was doing was good work. Perhaps he added in a new addition to the company. I'll have to schedule a meeting with him to get a good idea of whatever that may be.
"Come on please?! Please take it off! We want to know! Hey, you can take it off really quickly! Only I'll be able to see it! I promise I won't tell the rest! We're friends right?"
My name is Ash Joaquin Stark and I'm annoyed. The team recently has been getting pretty persistent about me taking off my helmet to reveal who I am and by team I mean Wally. By this point, we've gone on a couple of missions but they weren't really the type that we were looking forward to. I suppose I should've seen this coming. I suppose from their perspective I could be a girl for all they know.
"Wally, for the last time. No."
"Oh come on! Why not?! Everyone knows who everyone else is! Why not the same for you?!"
"Wally, we should respect the wishes of our comrade. If he wishes to have his identity remain secret, we should honor that.
Kaldur said as Conner let out an annoyed gruff on the couch, his eyes closed from his nap that he was desperately trying to stay in.
"We don't know Robin's and that's perfectly ok. He'll tell us when he's good and ready. Now shut up, I'm trying to sleep."
"Good to know you're adjusting well to this, Conner. Robin doesn't count! We could always just try to photoshop his mask off and add features to try and find out who he is."
"Sound logic and yet you'd still never figure it out. Haha!"
Wally glared at him with a grumble as he looked over at me once more before M'gann gave her own opinion with a blush on her face.
"I think it's kind of cool. It makes you more mysterious. Besides, it's not like he doesn't trust us, he'd give his life to do what's right. I just know it. Who cares if we don't know what he looks like?"
'Though I can only imagine that it's an incredible sight.'
I turned my head to her.
"Thanks M'gann."
Surprised by the sudden attention, she turned her reddened face to the side with a smile.
"O-Oh it's no problem! It's only the truth!"
Wally looked at the starry-eyed gaze of the Martian and soon a wicked idea came to his mind as he had an evil smile to go along with it.
"So what you're saying is that mystery and interest would die if you knew what he looked like?"
"What? No. Where'd you get that id-"
"So what pray tell is stopping me from just taking your helmet off right now?"
"Honestly? Nothing. I don't have anything in my systems to consistently or properly deal with speedsters. So you could just do so with no issue."
I said simply as Wally stepped up to me with a smirk before I spoke once more.
"But the problem is you'd be breaking my trust and breaking a very big boundary. Do you really want to do that to your friend? What would you think of yourself? What would your friends and family think of you? What would Flash think of you?"
I asked him simply which got him to halt in his actions. He looked off to the side and grumbled annoyed.
"No fair! You played to my morality!"
"Well, it's a great thing that you have a good sense of it."
I said with a smile underneath my helmet before gazing at the holograms to see a Red Tornado icon heading towards our direction.
"Guys! Red Tornado's coming!"
"Then what are we waiting for?!"
We all rushed outside to see the robotic Leaguer descend from the air to the ground in front of us.
"Red Tornado!"
"Greetings. Is there a reason that you decided to intercept me outside the cave?"
"We hoped that you had a new mission for us. A good mission that is."
"Mission assignments are Batman's responsibility."
"Well, yeah but it's been over a wee-"
"You'll all be properly tested soon enough. For the time being, simply enjoy each other's company. Until your mission is assigned, keep busy."
"Keep busy? Does he really think we're falling for this?!"
"Oh! I'll check!"
M'gann turned her gaze over to the retreating Leaguer and squinted her eyes, only for them to slightly widen and sigh. She held her hands together as she turned back to us.
"I-can not read his mind. I forgot he's a machine. Sorry."
"Good try though."
"You think we could try and solve a problem on our own again? Give them some incentive on what we can do?"
Superboy asked to which they all looked at me as I just shook my head.
"No. We were lucky the first time and it's a miracle that they even let us get this far. We try looking for trouble again and we might just lose the team before we really get to be one."
"Well, we could check out each other's rooms. M'gann can give me a private tour of hers."
"In your dreams, Flashy."
"Oh not you too! It's bad enough that I can't get the cops to call me by my official name!"
We all chuckled at his misery before M'gann's eyes lit up in surprise!
"I know what we can do! Let's go for a cruise on my ship!"
"Not a bad idea."
"Gives us some time to hang out with one another."
"And think about it. If by some unknown chance something does happen, it won't be our fault if we stop by to deal with it. We were just innocently flying around the city."
We all shared a mischievous smile before heading to M'gann's bioship and boarding it. She sent it to camouflage mode and we were soaring throughout the air.
'So what do you guys want to see?'
'It doesn't really matter to me as long as it's nice to look at.'
Superboy responded to M'gann who nodded with a smile. You might wonder why he's so alright with her being inside of his head like this. Especially considering his upbringing with Cadmus. Well, once the team was created, I figured we should get the annoying tidbits out of the way first. Such as M'gann's powers with the mind and showing Superboy that it wasn't anything to worry about…for now anyway.
The other tidbit of how M'gann actually looked was something that was going to have to wait until she was good and ready which was fine to him. As long as it keeps the team working smoother then it doesn't matter.
"Red Tornado to Miss Martian. An emergency alert has been triggered at the Happy Harbor power plant. I suggest you investigate covertly. I'm sending coordinates. Red Tornado out."
We all groaned at this alert. Another way for Red Tornado to keep us busy with these missions." It was really starting to put a strain on team morale.
'Alright team. Let's go check it out. M'gann.'
'On it. What do you think is the cause for this problem?'
'I think I can work it out.'
I thought to the group as I pointed their direction to a sudden and out of place tornado that threw the bioship off its course. We all held onto something as M'gann spun the ship around to land in the parking lot as it made its way to the building.
We all stared at the tornado that was currently terrorizing the public in shock. There were no tornado warnings nor were tornadoes common in New England. I turned to Robin only for him to not be with the group with his laugh fading into the background. I placed my hand up to my head as I let out a sigh, seeing the windows of the building blow out.
"Let's go after him."
Robin was thrown against the wall as we all rushed close to him. My gaze was turned to him to see a robotic looking figure that started them down. The gauntlets on his arm were creating artificial wind that could be weaponized. My eyes narrowed for a moment. It looked…familiar.
"New friend?"
"Not so much. Didn't quite get his name."
"My apologies. You may address me as Mr. Twister!"
He said grandly as he lifted his arms causing two tornadoes to rush towards us, spinning Superboy and I off our feet as we rushed towards him. I activated my jet boots and began to fly towards him before he increased the pressure and sent me flying into a wall, denting it badly.
"Iron Man!"
M'gann yelled out in worry before I shook my head.
"I'm alright! Focus on the mission! Take him down!"
Wally put on his goggles and began to run at the armored villain before flipping towards him and kicking him with both his feet. But just before Wally made impact he covered himself in wind, softening the attack and blowing Wally out of the building.
M'gann and Kaldur tried to attack as well but were simply blown away just as the rest of us were. Mr. Twister looked in shame as he groaned.
"I was expecting to be challenged by a superhero. Not a bunch of children. I want a challenge, not a warm up."
He was hit with a smoke bomb that coverd his view. The wind blew it out but not before he was stunned with a repulsor blast, sending him back a few feet but still on his.
"Finally, you managed to get a hit in. I suppose that would be considered impressive for you."
Robin! More smoke bombs!
You've got it!
The Boy Wonder threw more smoke bombs at the villain which caused his vision to be made blurry once more. I took the opportunity to hit him with more than just a repulsor on my arm and charged up my unibeam. It wasn't long before the large blue beam of energy was shot from my chest and hit Mr. Twister directly, send him flying out of the building and into the parking lot.
Wally took the opportunity to get in some super speed punches which did make the enemy stagger before blowing Wally away once more with his weaponized wind. Wally was back to his feet as he stared Mr. Twister down.
"What did you do to my team?"
"Embarrass them greatly."
Mr. Twister held up his hands and created another tornado that swept Wally in and collided directly into the building. Wally was levitating in the air as we walked up to him, M'gann holding him up before setting him down. I turned to her and pointed at Mr. Twister.
"M'gann! Read his mind!"
"On it!"
Her eyes narrowed once more as she focused on the villain before something in her mind made her gasp. She slapped herself on the head playfully as she chuckled.
"Hello Megan! It's all so simple now! Mr. Twister is actually just Red Tornado in disguise! I can't read his mind! This is what he must've meant by ``keep busy!"
We all looked at each other as Mr. Twister began to levitate into the air to which we all looked on with a bit of a glare. We thought we were really going up against a real villain just to find out it's a trick.
"Enough Red Tornado! We know it's you! We won't indulge in your games any longer!"
"Yeah, just quit the games already! We're sick of it!"
Mr. Twister didn't say anything as dark storm clouds began to summon and lightning crackled as the whirling winds picked up to even more dangerous speeds.
"Uh…can Red Tornado do that?"
"That's not Red Tornado."
"You think I'm Tornado? How painfully ironic."
A stray lightning bolt hit the ground in front of us, sending us flying backwards. Superboy ripped off his ruined jacket and leaped into the air, ready to punch the hell out of him before being shot right in the chest with lightning back to the rest of us. Once he landed it created a giant round of dust. Mr. Twister waited for the dust to settle before being met with nothing.
"This game of Hide-and-Seek will only delay my objectives so I will leave you. But if you face me again, I will show no mercy."
That was the final thing Mr. Twister said before he departed, leaving the kids to themselves before they were suddenly visible again and another forcefield deactivated on top of them. Wally looked confused.
"W-What happened?"
"I placed the bioship above us."
"And I put us in a protective forcefield if he called M'gann's bluff."
I said with a sigh as I noticed Superboy glaring at the ground, before letting off several angered punches to it, destroying it quite a bit.
"Woah, woah Superboy what's wrong?"
"What's wrong?! Our first real bad guy and we let him get away! He humiliated us! How are we supposed to prove to the League that we can handle big problems with results like that?! How can I prove to…him that I can…"
My hand rested on his shoulder as he let his anger die down.
"Look, I understand. But we haven't lost yet. We need to plan and find out what he's doing. We make a coordinated attack and take him down. Besides, Superman can't be disappointed in something he doesn't know happened. Right?"
I argued to which Superboy closed his eyes and nodded. We all boarded the bioship and began to make preparations.
"So what do we do?"
"Think about it. He said he was expecting a real superhero. Who was he expecting?"
"Batman's a little too weak, Superman's a little too strong…Red Tornado."
"Hello Megan! They're practically the same person except Red Tornado doesn't have the villainous traits that Mr. Twister thinks is his winning personality!"
"Alright, he's expecting Red Tornado. So let's give him Red Tornado."
Mr. Twister's destruction continued in another populated area. His combined tornadoes, wind, and lightning caused a great deal of damage.
"What does it take for a villain of my caliber to get a little attention?!"
"If it is attention that you seek, I am happy to deliver."
Mr. Twister turned to the automated response of Red Tornado as he landed in front of him.
"Ah Red Tornado. I see the children have run off to tell a real superhero. Wise."
"The children are much stronger than you know."
Red Tornado finished off by summoning a tornado and manipulating it right at Mr. Twister dodged it, creating a tornado of his own and combining the two artificial natural disasters. He sent directly back at Red Tornado who held up a hand and dissipated the attack.
"We are equally matched, Twister."
Red Tornado stated as he levitated giant rocks at the robotic villain who punched the ground, causing water from the harbor to spray up, washing them out of the way. He soon aimed his gauntlets at him and shot lightning to which Tornado dodged to the best of his ability.
"No Tornado, we are not!"
One of the lightning rays hit a boat that soon caught on fire and sent the artificial hero flying and crashing harshly on the ground. Mr. Twister levivated towards him before landing next to him.
"Remain still. The reprogramming won't take long."
With a raised hand, several crimson wires stretched from his hand and planted themselves neatly on Red Tornado's head. It wasn't long before Red Tornado grabbed the wires and pulled them off, only for his face to morph into M'gann's.
"Can't reprogram something biological."
"What?!"
In his confusion he was hit by a powerful blast from my unibeam only for Wally to summon another tornado and send him flying. Robin implanted several explosives onto his suit which blew him forward before a harsh punch was received from Conner sending him into the water. There hid Kaldur who swung at him with a metal pipe and infused it with his magic electrocuting him out of the ocean. Mr. Twister struggled to see what was happening as he realized his arm was missing.
M'gann flew up into the air, hoisting him up as well, and ripped off the remaining limbs and sent the machine to the ground. We all started at the machine before the chest popped open and an older man popped out.
"Foul! I-I-I call foul!"
I narrowed my eyes at this before sending a small device onto his chest which beeps rapidly before causing a gigantic explosion much to the dismay of my teammates.
"What was that?!"
"We fight bad people, we don't execute bad people!"
I didn't say anything as I raised a hand and pointed to the crater that was made. All that was left was a badly damaged robotic version of that old man. They all looked at me and asked how I knew before I shrugged.
"I'm Iron Man. But did we rock or did we rock?!"
"Hell yeah we did!"
"Great teamwork everyone!"
I smiled walking to the exosuit as the team celebrated before my eyes narrowed once more. This looked familiar for a reason. This was my tech. I picked up one of the arms that held the gauntlets that created wind.
I remember developing technology that created artificial winds to combat natural disasters. I never finished it so I put it on hold. It was supposed to be in the Vault where all my unfinished projects were laid! It was supposed to help people, not hurt them! I looked at the gauntlet and crushed it in my hand angrily. My anger did not go unnoticed as my team walked up to me concerned.
"Iron Man? Are you alright?"
M'gann asked me to which I sighed as I let the gauntlet fall to the ground. Whoever made this was still out there and I wasn't about to let anyone else have it. I encased what was left of Mr. Twister and the robot human decoy in a forcefield.
"I'm…ok. You all did great, especially you M'gann. I'm really proud of you. I have to go. You guys explain to Batman what transpired here. I…I just have to do something."
That was the final thing that was spoken before I blasted off into the air with the remains of Mr. Twister and its pilot. Once I was able to get them back in my spare lab, I was back out of the street as my non superhero persona. I was angry. Furiated. There was only one person who had access to the vault other than me. Grimes.
I was going to threaten him, I was going to make sure he knew that he wasn't going to get away with this. I was going to do a lot of things to him, but that was before I found his face on the giant screens in the city. Talking about how he was aware of the tech that was used by Mr. Twister and how an investigation was being made. And everyone believed him.
My name is Ash Joaquin Stark and I'm infuriated.
