Chapter 9

I stretched my limbs, squinting at the sunlight. I woke up alone, but I smiled, I was grateful for her company last night. Maybe making friends wasn't going to be as hard as I thought... I grabbed my towel and toothbrush and headed off to the showers. Thankful that Ochako had shown me that map of the dorms last night, others I would be lost. I never thought I would enjoy a shower that much. I hurried back to my room to get dressed. I looked at my back, it had healed completely. There wasn't a single scratch left behind.

"Well, what do I do now?"

That was when I heard a familiar yelling again. I hurried downstairs to see what all the fuss was about. Surprise, surprise it was the angry porcupine again.

"You!" He said pointing at me. "Courtyard now!"

I stood there, with my hands on my hips. Looking at him as if he was crazy.

"You must be talking to someone else."

He scoffed." You think you deserve to be here?"

I shrugged. "So what if I do?"

He got up close and personal. "So, then prove it. Or are you too afraid to fight me?"

I scowled at him. "Fine."

I and the rest of the students followed him into the courtyard. A guy with green hair trying to convince him that he shouldn't be picking a fight with me. I didn't care. For two months I had to train with Dabi. No way he fights better than he does. I'm positive could take him in a fight. We stood there in the courtyard surrounded by the other students. I pushed my hair out of my face. Tucking it behind my ears. I watched him. I held out my hand to him, waiting for him to shake it, and he did.

"Better be ready."

Big mistake porcupine.

This fight was over before it even started. and he didn't even know it. Leaning forward, readying himself to lunge at me, but I didn't even give him the chance. The look on his face when he realized he couldn't move. I stepped aside, letting him fly past me.

Let's see what his quirk is made of.

I held out my hand letting a blast go toward him. He flew knocking back into a tree. The heat from his quirk was nothing compared to Dabi's. He was shocked. No doubt because I used his quirk. He looked at his hand seeing he still had his quirk then back at me. He charged toward me. I went low trying to sweep his leg, but he dodged it with ease. He threw cocked his hand back, palm open as it started to glow. I blinked, canceling out his quirk, and backed away from him, blinking once again.

Thank you, Aizawa.

I was beginning to feel it. The toll of using so many quirks back-to-back. He looked at me and smirked, coming at me again. I smiled back swallowing the lump in my throat. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun. I used Dabi's quirk, creating a wall of fire between us. He came blazing through like a crazy person. With a mad grin on his face,

Next Ochako.

I dropped to the floor, barely missing him, tapping him on the thigh. Slamming my hand to the ground, he followed slamming down to the floor as well. I had to admit, I was enjoying this. Fighting him, and winning, and by the looks of it, he was enjoying this too. Even though I was kicking his butt.

"Enough!"

I shot up to my feet, my head snapping in the direction of the voice. It was Aizawa. All of the other students clammed up too. Except for Bakugo.

"You two over here now." He ordered.

We went over to him. Aizawa sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"What is going on here?"

I folded my arms. "The angry porcupine over here started it."

Bakugo crossed his arms. "You brought her in, no test no nothing. I wanted to see if she deserved her spot here. She had to prove herself. I had to see if she was hero potential."

I leaned in close to him, curious. "So, am I? Hero potential." I asked him.

His face had gotten all read. He quickly turned the other way.

He scoffed. "She's alright." He mumbled.

I grinned at Aizawa. I had to admit. It felt nice to be… accepted. I didn't like being disliked.

"Alright, all you inside now! Anymore fighting and you will be put on hero traffic duty!"

They all ran inside after hearing that, Bakugo too but Aizawa held me back. He patted my head and told me that I did a good job. I usually hated when people touched my hair… but I guess this time I would let it slide.

It was dinnertime and everyone was gathered around this big table in the cafeteria. It was nice, it felt warm. Nothing like the lonely dinners I had back in my village alone. Everyone's eyes were on me. They sparkled with questions, but none of them asked. None except Bakugo.

"So, how can you do that? Use of those quirks. You don't steal them, because I still have mine. So, how does that work?"

"God no. I keep hearing about stealing quirks. Who would do that? Is, someone doing that?" I asked my question and ignored his own.

Bakugo nodded. "His name is All for one. He's the worst villain we've ever seen. He steals whatever quirk he wants and adds them to his collection. He has lackeys that just love causing trouble around the city and for the heroes. Dabi has been seen with them a few times."

I bit the inside of my cheek, trying not to react to hearing Dabi's name. "As for how I do it, I was born with two quirks. The first one is then telekinesis. I copied a telepathy quirk but I don't like pushing my way into people's heads, so I just use the telekinesis part. The second one was the ability to copy them. Before I came here I had about five in total, but now I'd say I have about nine or ten now. I guess I should apologize for that. Copying you guys' quirk without asking permission first."

"How do you know how to use them, our quirks? If you've never seen us, use them before."

I looked at my hands. "I don't know. It's hard to explain. When I copy them, I can just feel it. It's like they talk to me or something."

I looked up at everyone. They were silent, paying attention and hanging on to every word that I was saying.

"Is it hard to keep track of them?" Bakugo asked.

I looked back at him, shaking my head. "Not at all. It's like looking through a book. My brain just instantly finds the page that it's on. It does take a lot of energy to use more than one at a time though."

"You're just like Izuku over here. He has a couple of quirks under his belt too."

I looked over at him. You could tell he was very shy.

"How?"

Bakugo sighed. "That is a long story."

I'd love to hear that story sometime.

I looked over at the green-haired kid and smiled.

"Well, this is nice," I told him. "You not hating me and wanting me out of here," I said smiling.

His face got all red again, and he tried to hide it. "Yeah, whatever."

Is this what it felt like to have friends? This is nice. To be around kids who can use their quirks freely. Something I was never able to do. I feel normal here… like I belong. I wish Dabi could be a part of this too. I felt guilty for enjoying myself without him… for missing him.

He held his hand out to me, avoiding my eyes. "Katsuki Bakugo." He said, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I shook it. "Yami Hikari. Nice to officially meet you." I smiled.
