CHAPTER 2:
Gloria Visits Richie
Daylight came, and Gloria was in her bedroom awake and chanting, "Candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy!"
Her bedroom door opened and out she lept! "Hello, Halloween! What a glorious day and a glorious night to go trick-or-treating for candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy! Steady yourself, Gloria. First you gotta get a costume, and you gotta get a sack. A sack to hold all that candy, candy, candy! Easy, girl. First... first you gotta get up."
She went back in her room, then came out again with a white bed sheet over her body. She was pretending to be a ghost.
"I have a little surprise for Richie," Gloria said, and went to Richie Rich's mansion.
At the mansion, Richie Rich had a pumpkin carved into a jack-o-lantern and was scooping pumpkin seed into a bowl with a spoon. Before he knew it, Gloria snuck from behind, still with the bed sheet on her, getting ready to scare Richie.
"BOO!" she went.
"Whoa!" went Richie as he jumped and flung the pumpkin in the air, then the pumpkin landed on his head.
"Gotcha!" said Gloria when she took off the sheet.
"You sure did, Gloria!" Richie laughed.
"Now how about this?" Gloria said and made a goofy face.
Richie laughed again. "That's a lot funny!" After he couldn't laugh anymore, he sighed, "You know how to crack me up, Gloria."
"Always do," Gloria agreed.
"What's with the bed sheet?" asked Richie. "You practicing for Halloween?"
"Practicing?" Gloria said. "Practicing? As you know, Halloween's my middle name. Gloria Halloween Glad."
She noticed the the pumkin was on his head.
"By the way," Gloria said, "what's with the pumpkin on your head?"
"Oh, this pumpkin?" Richie said. Then his robot made, Irona, came from behind and dusted the table with a feather duster.
Richie continued, "I was carving a jack-o-lantern until you arrived. What do you think?"
"Looks cute!" Gloria replied.
Richie took the pumpkin off his head and said, "Well, this one's ruined." The pumpkin landed on Irona's head without Richie noticing.
Curiously, Gloria took a handful of pumpkin seeds from the bowl. "Hmm," she said, "this stuff appears to be of the corn flakes persuasion." Then she took a mouthful.
"Since when did you like pumpkin innards?" Richie asked.
When Gloria heard the same words Richie said, she went, "Ptooey!" as she spit the seeds out. "Since never! Bleh!"
Richie brought a breakfast tray and said, "How about some breakfast?"
"Oh, no thanks," Gloria said, "I must save room for all that candy." She walked away chanting, "Candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy..."
"It's eggs and bacon," Richie added.
Gloria came back and changed her mind. "Eggs and bacon?!" she said. "Don't mind if I do! After all, breakfast is a very important meal of the day."
And with that, she and Richie enjoyed their breakfast.
