Prompts: Sleeping in Shifts/Tossing and Turning/Caught in a Storm

Clint/Mikayla

"I hate boats."

"You've mentioned that at least 5 times already, old man. And we've only been here about 10 minutes."

"Shut up, Barton," Bucky grumbled. "Thought you might want to know what you're dealing with."

Clint turned and looked at him. "Did you need me to hold your hair back when you puke? 'Cause I will, ya know."

"Now that's a true friend. I'll pass, though."

Clint shrugged his shoulders. "Suit yourself. Don't say I didn't offer."

Bucky knew Clint was using humor to cover up his nervousness and concern about Mikayla. Tony knew Clint and Mikayla needed a vacation after everything they'd been through, so he gave them an all-expense paid cruise along the Mediterranean. They'd been touring the ruins in Greece when Mikayla disappeared. Instead of sending the entire team to Europe, Bucky and Natasha volunteered to go, as they were the two most familiar with the area. Natasha searched around the ruins, so because Bucky lost the coin toss, he went back with Clint to explore the ship. "Anything?" Bucky asked.

"Not yet. I searched our room. Nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing's missing."

Bucky was below deck searching through the inner workings of the ship. "Nothing here yet. Natasha?"

"No clues among the ruins. According to Stark, there's a storm headed our way, so we might want to hunker down. Not sure how calm it'll be there for you two."

Clint hated giving up. He knew time was of the essence, but Nat was right. It wouldn't do anyone any good to search if the ship was tossing and turning; they might end up overboard. He let out a sigh. "Okay. We'll settle down here, sleep in shifts in case she tries to contact us."

"I'll do that as well. Cap showed up, so we'll have a second set of eyes on the ground."

"Please tell me he didn't jump from the plane without a parachute again, did he?"

"That was one time, Buck."

"Glad you could join us, Cap," Clint said. "We can always use another old man on the search."

"No age-related jokes, you young whippersnapper," Steve said. Clint's humor was infectious.

"That's enough, boys. Clint, we can take the first watch. Let the octogenarians get their beauty rest."

Steve and Bucky harrumphed in unison. "Good night, you two," Clint said. "We'll wake you when it's your turn."

Bucky went back up to Clint and Mikayla's berth and tried to get comfortable, which was hard to do, knowing a member of his team was missing. However, he knew he wouldn't be of any use if he were exhausted. With the serum, Bucky knew he only needed a couple of hours of sleep, so he closed his eyes and tried to think positive thoughts as he drifted off.

Clint continued searching in the bowels of the ship where Bucky had left off. After about an hour, he heard a strange noise he hadn't previously heard. As he turned to investigate, someone struck him on the back of the head, and he fell to the ground.

Two hours later, Bucky woke up. Noticing the time, he put in his comm. "Barton?" No response. "Clint?" Still nothing. "Steve? Nat? I can't get a response from Barton."

"Need backup?" Steve asked.

"Wouldn't hurt since two of the team are missing."

"We'll be right there." Steve turned to Natasha. "We'd better let the rest of the team know. I've got a bad feeling about this."

Clint woke up, his head pounding. He found himself in a cave, shackled against some rocks. "Sire, Perseus has awakened." Clint blinked and saw a man wearing something resembling a toga.

"Good. He'll be able to watch the sacrifice then." Another man approached Clint. "Thank you for allowing us to present Andromeda to our god. He shall be pleased and will grace us with his favor."

Clint had no clue what they were talking about. The names sounded vaguely familiar, but he didn't know why. "What the hell is going on?"

"Silence!" The man closest to him pulled out a short sword and sliced Clint across his arm. "Should you choose to continue to spout nonsense, I will have no choice but to include you in the sacrifice."

Clint looked around and saw something resembling an ancient crossbow. He knew if he could get out of the shackles, he could use that to take these people out and continue searching for Mikayla. "Fine, I'll obey," he replied through gritted teeth.

"I thought you would. Release him and bring him to the rock." Two men twisted the shackles from his hands, slicing his wrists. Clint stood and tried to trip one of the men, but the other one noticed that and stepped on Clint's ankle. Clint heard a crunch, feeling the pain shoot up his leg. The other man followed suit and broke Clint's other ankle. Clint knew that would make it harder, but it would just make the pain sweeter when he killed them. The two men dragged him outside to a small road up a small, rocky cliff. "Perseus, look upon your beloved Andromeda."

The leader (Clint guessed he was, anyway) pointed toward the top of the cliff. Clint saw a woman wearing a shredded toga-type dress chained to the side of the cliff. She was bruised and bleeding from multiple wounds. Clint blinked so he could focus. "Mikayla?"

The woman slowly rolled her head toward Clint's voice. "Clint?" She said in a weak and feeble voice. "Clint? Where are you? I can't see you."

"You sons of bitches. What did you do to her?"

The leader punched Clint in the stomach. "Do you not know the meaning of the word silence? Andromeda is not worthy of watching her end, so we have taken her sight from her. Trust me," the man said, tightly grabbing Clint's chin to the point Clint heard a couple of his teeth breaking, "it shall be better for her this way."

Clint heard Mikayla sobbing. He said the only thing he could think of to comfort her. "If you fall, I will catch you."

Mikayla was now struggling to breathe. "I…will…be…waiting." That one statement seemed to take all the strength she had left. Her chin fell to her chest, and she appeared to stop moving.

Clint shook the man's hand off his chin. "Let me go."

"I'm afraid I cannot do that until the sacrifice process is complete." The man motioned to someone standing partway up the cliff. The man drew back a long spear, aimed, and flung it straight toward Mikayla. As the spear was released, one of the men holding up Clint took a sword and stabbed Clint in the stomach. "Don't worry. You shall meet each other again in the stars." Clint fell to the ground, collapsing before he saw a flash from a repulsor fly across the night sky, knocking the spear out of the air before it reached Mikayla.

Disclaimer: Clash of the Titans (the original from 1981) is one of my favorite movies. Please accept my apologies for straying WAY away from the movie and the Greek lore.
