Prompts: Sloppy Bandages/Self-Done First Aid/Makeshift Splint

(Continuation from Chapter 8 – Clint was captured and turned into Goliath)

Clint/Mikayla

As Mikayla went to wrap her arms around him, the man called Goliath pulled out a gun and aimed it at her head. "Who the hell is Clint?"

"Mikayla, duck!" She fell to the ground, narrowly avoiding being decapitated by Cap's shield. The shield struck Clint in the chest. Clint staggered but didn't fall, keeping his finger on the trigger. He pointed the gun at Steve and shot. Steve swerved to try and miss the bullet, but he wasn't quick enough, and it struck him in the bicep. Steve clamped a hand over the wound to stop the bleeding, knowing it would be healed by morning.

Still on the ground, Mikayla wrapped her arms around Clint's calves and tried pulling him to the ground. Clint responded by kicking her across the lobby. "Friday!" She screamed as she flew across the room and crashed into the stairwell door. Mikayla put out her hands to brace for her fall and heard a sickening crunch as one of her wrists bent in the wrong direction.

"The rest of the team is on their way," the AI said.

Clint had picked up Cap's shield, and Steve met him in the middle of the room. Clint swung the shield, but Cap ducked and tackled Clint in the stomach, taking him by surprise only for a brief moment. Clint was able to jump up and toss Cap off him.

"What the hell happened to Legolas?" Tony, in his Iron Man suit, had appeared. "Somebody ate their Wheaties while they were gone." Clint turned and shot at Tony, who quickly blocked the shot. "It'd be nice to have Thor and Bruce here. Sure could use their help." Steve was back on his feet and heading toward Clint. "Anything stop him yet? And why is he trying to kill us?"

"He hasn't shared that info yet," Steve said.

Nat had also come down and was tending to Mikayla. Mikayla had slid over to the reception desk and rifled through the drawers trying to find anything she could use for a splint. By the time Nat had arrived, Mikayla had finally settled on taping a couple of rulers to her wrist with scotch tape. She figured it would do until she could get to the medical floor once they'd dealt with Clint. Nat had grabbed a first aid kit before coming downstairs and hastily put some small bandages on a cut that had opened up on Mikayla's forehead. "Nat? What happened to him?"

"I'm guessing HYDRA. We know how they love experimenting on people."

Mikayla leaned against the desk, watching Steve and Tony take on Clint. "Can we get him back?"

Nat nodded. "If anyone can, it'll be Tony and Shuri."

The door to the stairs opened, and Bucky appeared. "Started the fun without me, I see. What the hell?" Bucky watched Clint draw back his arm to take a swing at Cap. Bucky shook his head and sped over, launched himself to grab Clint's arm, and, using his vibranium arm, wrestled Clint to the ground and held him down.

"Let…me…go," Clint growled. "You're my mission."

"What is your mission?" Natasha stood over the men.

Clint struggled to break free as he talked. "To take out the Avengers. They disagree with our way of life and need to be done away with before they can do more harm."

Bucky and Steve looked at each other. "HYDRA," they said in unison.

"I thought we destroyed all the chairs," Tony said.

Bucky tightened his grip on Clint. "They've obviously found another way to screw with people's memories."

"Speaking of," Steve looked at Clint. "Who are you?"

"Goliath."

"Well, he is larger than the last time we saw him, so it fits."

"Tony!" Everyone yelled.

Tony raised his hands in surrender. "Just stating the obvious here."

At some point, Sam showed up with some cuffs made for Hulk. "These should hold him. We takin' him to the Hulk room?" Bucky glared at him. "The colloquial 'we,' meaning you two souped-up soldiers."

"This will help," Mikayla slid an arrow across the tile to Natasha. "Tranquilizer arrow. Bruce had Clint make one in case he couldn't shift back. Supposed to make it easier to transport him." Natasha nodded, picked up the arrow, and jammed it into Clint's thigh. Clint let out a feral growl, slowly lost his fighting spirit, and passed out. "Good to know it works."

As the guys took Clint to the Hulk room, Natasha helped Mikayla to the medical wing. "Nice brace, Barton," she pointed to Mikayla's hastily made splint, "but let's get a real one on you." Mikayla nodded as Natasha led her to a stretcher. Doctor Cho met them with an x-ray machine and materials for a real splint.

About an hour later, the group gathered in the common area. "Is he still out?" Mikayla asked, sitting in a recliner with her legs curled underneath her.

Tony nodded. "Probably a good time to draw some blood so we can run tests and figure out what they did to him."

"I want to be there when you do."

Steve shook his head. "It's too dangerous, and you're injured."

Mikayla snorted. "And you got shot."

"She's got a point, Steve."

"Can it, Barnes."

"I'll stand behind the glass, out of the way. Steve," Mikayla pleaded with him, "that's still my husband in there. It's been over a year since I've seen him, not knowing what happened to him."

Steve sighed. "Fine, but you stay out of the enclosure." Mikayla nodded.

Natasha stood. "I'll reach out to people. See if I can find out what methods HYDRA is using now to wipe and change memories and to see if it's the same serum."

The group split up, with Natasha going to her suite and the rest going to the Hulk room. When they arrived, Clint was still unconscious. The three men went in with Steve and Bucky, keeping guard while Tony drew several vials of blood and took Clint's vitals. After he finished, he went to the medical wing to drop off the blood samples, then to his lab to contact Shuri and see if he could reach Bruce. Mikayla wanted to keep an eye on her husband, so Bucky and Steve agreed to stay behind and stand guard.

Mikayla leaned her forehead against one of the glass walls. "Clint, what happened to you? What did they do to you? Please come back to me. I've got to believe my husband is still in there somewhere. How can I reach you?" Eventually, Mikayla sunk to the ground and sat next to the wall, legs stretched out in front of her and her cheek leaning against the glass. Mikayla continued telling herself that, no matter the name the man in the enclosure called himself, to her, he would always be Clinton "Hawkeye" Barton, and she put her faith in the scientific minds of Tony, Shuri, and Bruce, to find a way to bring him back to her, to them.
