*IN TO THE CORE*Part 2-The Finding
Dr.John Marx head of the genetic engineering department had finally convinced
Lydecker to fund his new project, the Phoenix Series, or PX-I.
The aim of the project was to take the children living on the
streets and turn them in to soldiers.
Dr.Marx glanced at the military convoy trailing behind his
hummer. Each of the 3 transports held 18 frightened kids; 18 soon
to be fearless soldiers. Smiling to him self he turned to his
driver.
"How much longer till we get to the 'Core?" he asked. The driver shrugged,
"I don't know 10 to 15min" Dr.Marx nodded. The faster
he got to Manticore the faster he could inject the kids with his
'magic medicine', and the faster he got his raise.
Lost in thought he was unprepared for the driver slamming on
his brakes. Overconfident as he was he had no seat belt on and
was thrown painfully against the dashboard.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR!!!!" Dr.Marx barked,(yes he actually
barked like a dog)"I'm sorry sir," the driver said timidly, "A
thing just jumped in front of the Hummer."
"A thing. What kind of thing jumped in front of us?" The doc
asked as though speaking to a particularly stupid child.
"I don't know sir."
"Well why don't you find out before I leave you to the X-2's."
"Y-yes sir I'll- I'll do that right now." and with that the
driver with the IQ of 12 watt light bulb fell out of the Hummer
to see what made them stop.
