"My Queen," the servant bowed in front of the women sitting on the stone throne. Decaying vines intertwine themselves in and around the throne and the aged stone stairs leading up to it. "The new Guardians have been found. Although, it seems only three of them are fighting, the other two…"
The echo of the Queen's fist cracking the arm rest of the throne frighten the guards but none dared to utter another word or move a muscle. "I cannot have them ruining my plans!" The Queen pointed a boney finger towards the exit. "Find the Order of Shadows on Earth and tell them to start their mission of killing the Guardians."
"Yes, Your Majesty," the servant bowed again before scurrying away to complete his task.

-September 10th-
As Friday came around no one had spoken about the battle or to each other for that matter, expect for Wynter and Dakota but the two best friends did not speak of the events to one another. For they didn't know how to understand all its possibilities. The five girls just went back to the way things were; Khloe and Izzy forgetting about the whole ordeal or so they thought they would.
Hay-Lin, on the other hand, was afraid. Afraid that when the time comes to do what will be necessary the Guardians will not be ready. They are all too different. The first battle was just pure luck and if it were to happen again, she wasn't 100% positive they would win.
Hay-Lin looked around at her first period class. Khloe sat on her phone pretending to listen to Hannah talking about a boy on the football team. Izzy sat two rows behind her, getting frustrated at her art project as Roxy tried to tell it wasn't that bad. Wynter and Dakota were on the opposite side of the classroom chatting while working and by the sound of it, it was about their movie night tonight. Hay-Lin looked to the back corner but she didn't see the last guardian. She sighed as the door opened.
"You're late," Hay-Lin didn't need to look at the door to know it was CJ.
Like normal CJ didn't say anything, she just made her way to her seat. The art teacher watched as CJ pulled out her project and began making the finishing touches to it. It definitely was going to be hard to unite the Guardians.
After school Wynter and Dakota were arguing on whether or not they should try and talk the rest into continuing to fight and be Guardians. Wynter had finally convinced Dakota, after almost 4 hours, to continue to fight as the Guardians and see where it takes them.
"I think we should talk to her," Wynter whispered to Dakota as she nudged her friend closer to the figure sitting under the tree and not in detention for once. "She's right there."
"Why does it have to be her first? She's scary," Dakota moved herself behind Wynter, nudging her instead. Normally Dakota wouldn't be scared to talk to someone, she is the one to do the talking out of her and Wynter, but something about this girl made Dakota become anxious and a bit wary. "If you want to, then be my guest, go and talk to her."
"Fine, I will," Wynter shook Dakota's grip to head over to CJ. However, Wynter stopped when the dreaded girl picked up her phone beside her and groaned, getting up. The two saw CJ slid her phone in her back pocket, pack up her things in a rough fashion and move towards the school's parking lot.
"Well, that worked out great," Dakota said, happy that they didn't have to interact with her.
Wynter sighed. All week, the only thing that was on her mind was the battle in the different dimension. The battle that had spark something to life in her body. All her mundane life she wanted something exciting, adventurous, and most importantly, she wanted be someone, even if that meant hiding it from her family or the ones around. "We need to talk to them." Wynter unconsciously ran her fingers along the steel part wrapping around the Heart.
"Can't we start with Izzy or even Khloe?"
"What about us?"
The two whipped around to find the two said people standing there, a rare sighting to see the head cheerleader and jock together, not yelling at each other. However, they did look annoyed, either with each other or something entirely different.
"Oh um..." Wynter started biting her fingernails, unsure on how to start the conversation.
"If you're going to talk about what had happen Monday then just get over with it," Khloe suggested with attitude and a hand on her hip.
"Fine," Wynter took a deep breath as she walked away to a less crowded area. "I'm not 100% sure on what happen the other day but I know for a fact that I want to know and do more to help in whatever way I can. I don't know how you three feel about this and I know that the five of us, CJ included, are completely different in many ways," she looked at each of them then continued with, "But I do know that we were chosen for a reason, whatever that reason may be. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is ... are you with me?"
Dakota placed a hand on her best friend's shoulder giving it a squeeze, "You know I'm always with you! Even if it feels like something straight out of a tv show or a comic book."
Wynter smiled, brightly at her answer then glanced over at the cheerleader and the jock.
"I'll admit that I completely freaked out and didn't allow you to explain anything properly but I also want to know more so… as long as it doesn't screw with my sport schedule then I'm in," Izzy crossed her arms, sideways glancing at Khloe, as if challenging her.
"I mean I do look really hot in that outfit," Khloe bragged, receiving eye rolls and a groan from Dakota and Izzy but only Wynter nodded. "So, I guess I'm in too."
"Wow, okay, that was way easier than I excepted. Now all we need to do is convince CJ," Wynter thought out loud.
"Any ideas on where she lives?" Dakota asked the question everyone was thinking.
Izzy and Khloe shook their heads.
"I'll hack into the school's data base to find her address," Wynter said, nonchalantly.
Dakota raised an eye brow at her. "I thought you didn't do that anymore."
"I don't but how else are we gonna find her house? We aren't exactly close with her. "
The words exchanged between the two best friends had Khloe and Izzy looking at each other confused on how the president of the computer club had a rebellious side to her. Dakota just shrugged it off and let Wynter do her thing.
Wynter had taken her tablet out of her book bag and was now sitting on the ground, working her magic, as she liked to call it. She started mumbling each step, she had to take, to herself as the three others watched, all with different expression written on their faces. Dakota with awe, Khloe with confusion and Izzy with disturbance.
"Does she always talk to herself?" Izzy whispered to Dakota.
Dakota nodded her head as Wynter sprung up, scaring Khloe. "I found it!"
"Let's go then," Izzy encouraged.
"Can't, I have cheer practice." They all gave Khloe a deadpan look. "The homecoming game is coming up and we really need to practice so I cannot miss it."
"Fine, we'll talk more after, I'll text you where to meet us." Khloe agreed, exchanging numbers with Wynter before she jogged off to practice. "C'mon let's get going."
Opting to take Wynter's fresh out of the shop Sentra, Izzy and Dakota decided to leave their cars at school and pick them up afterwards. Making their way to their destination, the girls discussed how they were going to convince CJ. The ideas ranged from having a nice, calm talk to kidnapping and forcing her to join. The kidnap idea was Dakota's and she just got strange looks from both of them.
Finally, arriving at the address Wynter found, the girls had ended up 20 minutes away from the school on the out skirts of the city. "The school's data base said she lives in an apartment above the auto shop over there." She guided them to the right building, a three-door auto shop.
She parked her car in one of the guest parking spots and shut it off. The three got out just as someone exited the only opened garage door. The man had dark brown hair and grease stains all over his face. Once he spotted the girls, he smiled and walked over to them.
"How can I help you girls?" The man's black button up told them that his name was Logan. "Is there something wrong with your car?"
"Oh, um no, we're actually here looking for CJ," Wynter said, picking at her nails. "Do you know where we can find her?"
"Of course, I'm her dad," Logan tried to wipe the grease off his hands but seemed to only get more on them. However, he still held one out to Wynter. "You friends of hers?"
"Something like that," Izzy mumbled from beside Dakota.
Wynter sided eye Izzy before taking his hand, shaking it. "We are. I'm Wynter and this is Dakota and Izzy." She pointed to each of them as she said their names.
"Well, it's nice to meet cha'," Logan chuckled. "CJ is inside the garage, just go on ahead."
"Thank you!" Wynter smiled as they followed his directions.
The sound of metal being grinded and twisted could be heard the closer they got to the garage. Inside, the three girls saw two people working on two totally different cars; a new model of a sports car and an old school classic car.
"Eep," Dakota made a noise but quickly covered her mouth. "That's Isaac." She pointed to the large figure slumped over the opened sports car hood at the second door.
"Looks like he works here," Izzy commented with a smile when she saw Dakota blushing.
Isaac's head peeked out from the hood, sensing Wynter, Dakota and Izzy and straighten up to his full height of 6'6". He grabbed a cloth hanging off a tool box beside the car, cleaning his hands. "How can I help you?"
Izzy bumped Dakota forwards having her trip over her own feet. Luckily, she was able to catch herself before making absolute fool of herself. "We-We were, uh, looking for, um…" She glanced at Wynter, looking for help.
"We're looking for CJ. We need to talk to her," Wynter couldn't help but laugh a little at her friend. "And her dad said she was in here."
"CJ!" His voice echoed loudly through the room making the three girls jump.
Moments later from the far garage door, CJ popped out from under the old school car, dreads up in a bun and grease all over her gray bandana. Her eyebrows furrowed together at the sight of them.
"They said they needed to talk to you," Isaac said, going back to working on the car.
"We'll wait for you outside," Wynter motioned outside while pushing the others in that direction.
Isaac made a face at CJ as she walked by him, who in turn just slapped his arm, rolling her eyes at him. She heard him laughing behind her when she saw the three other standing by a grey Sentra. She reached them but no one began talking.
CJ huffed. "You said you wanted to talk."
Jaws dropped at the sound that was CJ's voice. A voice none of them heard before and it sounded exactly like how they thought it would, low, for a female, and angry.
Wynter blinked to refocus on the task at hand. "Okay. We know what happened the other day was weird and unexplainable, at that moment at least, but we all agreed to find out more about these abilities, the history and whatnot. However, Mrs. Lin had told me that we are stronger together and by together, I mean all five of us. Me, Izzy, Dakota, Khloe, and you. So… will you join me- I mean us?"
CJ remained silent as she thought about her answer. When she traveled through the portal into the new land, everything seemed right. It was exactly like how she drew and dreamt it. She wanted to know the answers to the questions that have been roaming in her head and being with them, no matter how much they annoyed her, could be the solution to her problem.
"Look," Wynter's voice knocked her out of her head. "You don't have to answer right now but we'll be meeting Khloe at the old junk yard after she's done cheer in like an hour, so if you have your answer by then please come." Wynter waved Dakota and Izzy to get in the car. "I know we're all very different but this," she motioned to each of them then the Heart around her neck. "Whatever it may be, could be something worth fighting for."
With that, the three drove off, leaving CJ standing in the middle of the parking lot with more questions than before.
"They seem nice," her dad said, coming back from his smoke break.
CJ just went back inside to work on the car.
-Junk Yard-
Khloe cringed as she pulled into the old junk yard. "Why couldn't it be an open field or something?" She complained, parking her BMW next to Wynter's car.
Wynter, Dakota and Izzy met Khloe at her car right as she was getting out. "You couldn't have picked a cleaner place to do this?" She voiced her complaint, slamming her car door for affect.
"We needed a place where we wouldn't be seen or heard," Wynter said, rolling her eyes. "And since this abandon junk yard is on the outskirts of the city, it's perfect."
"Whatever," Khloe flipped her hair. "Did you get the dreaded girl?"
"Her name is CJ," Dakota said, already annoyed with Khloe's attitude.
Wynter calmed her friend down by placing a hand on her shoulder. "We don't know. We talked with her and told her to meet us here if she wants to."
"I doubt she will," Khloe crossed her arms, sticking her chin up a bit. "She doesn't exactly do human interaction, unless you count that Frankenstein of a boy."
Dakota jerked forwards but the roar of a motorcycle froze the exchange. It pulled up to the group, its engine cutting off shortly after. The girls watched as CJ pulled off her helmet, placing it in front of her and leaned on, raising an eyebrow at their shocked expressions.
"What?" CJ questioned. "Surprised to see me?"
"She talks…" Khloe whispered.
"She can also hear."
Izzy laughed at Khloe throwing a mini tantrum at CJ's sly comment. "We are surprised. Didn't think you wanted anything to do with us."
"I just want to know what the hell is going on."
"Good, cause so do all of us." Wynter led the four into the junk yard, Dakota closing the front gate behind them. "Let's get started."
So we get a tiny glimpse of the big bad. Who do you think it is?
