"Ready for your first classes?"Rosalie smiled at the question from her secretary.Rosalie had taken the job of director of a preschool in Seattle after the Cullens had decided to settle down in the area.It was a big enough city that Rosalie decided not to go to high school with her siblings this cycle and wanted to do something more fulfilling.She had always loved children and yearned for one of her own so it was natural that she chose to take a job that allowed her to work with them.
"I am more than ready."Rosalie told her as she stood in the check in area of the school waiting for the children to get dropped off by their parents.
"It will be a little hectic so we really need to pay attention to the children and make sure they are checked in properly.Some parents try to just send them into the building by themselves so we need to catch it if that happens."Sara warned.
"Should we have someone stand outside the door for that?"Rosalie asked.
"We tried that but then other parents tried doing the same thing so we had to stop."Sara said."It looks like we have our first students."
Rosalie smiled when the door opened and a small boy and his mother walked up to the desk."Good morning are you excited for your first day of school?"
"Sorry he's a little shy."The woman said.
"It's no problem.I'm sure he will make a few friends and come out of his shell."Rosalie reassured woman.She signed the boy in and one of the staff led the boy to his class.This started the trend with parents bringing in their children and them being sent to their classes.It was enjoyable to see all the excited children but annoying when more than one of their parents both male and female tried to hit on her.It was natural with her looks but totally inappropriate with the setting they were in.
"Hurry up Bella I don't have all day."Rosalie frowned when she heard the the harsh words.As she looked up to reprimand the woman Rosalie was shocked still as she locked eyes with the most adorable child she had ever seen.The little girl had brown hair that was covered in a blue knit hat.Her small body was adorned with sweatpants that had Chip and Dale on them and shoes that lit up when she walked.If that was enough it was the brown eyes that caught Rosalie complete attention because as she looked into them Rosalie had the overwhelming need to take the child in her arms and never let her go.
"Oh no."Sara muttered.
"What is it?"Rosalie whispered unable to take her eyes off of her mate because when she finally let herself fall into her emotions she knew that this child was the one she was meant to be with.The feelings now weren't romantic they were more protective and somewhat possessive but it was beyond obvious to Rosalie that this was her mate.
"That's Rene Swan.Her little girl Bella is the sweetest child I have ever met but her mother doesn't treat her the greatest.We haven't seen any proof of abuse but she definitely doesn't truly care of the child."Sara told her.
"What about the father?"Rosalie asked.
"He has come in a couple times to pick her up.He is a nice man but doesn't get that much time with Bella because Rene has primary custody.I'm surprised Rene hasn't taken the child further away from him than she already has."Sara added.
"He doesn't live around here?"Rosalie hadn't taken her eyes off of Bella and it was taking everything in her not to tear Rene apart for the way she was speaking to the girl.
Sara shook her head."He lives in Forks."
"That's quite a drive for him."Rosalie knew off the town of Forks.The Cullens had a home there where they lived about a century ago.She wondered if the wolf pack was still there.That would be a question for Carlisle.Rosalie didn't like the idea of her mate in such a close proximity to beings that dangerous.
"Charlie is a good father.You can tell he truly loves Bella."Sara said.
Rosalie perked up when Bella was finally checked in.She stepped in before the staff member could escort Bella to her class."Why don't I take Bella to her class."
"Oh course."The staff member motioned Bella over to Rosalie."Bella Rosalie is going to take you to your class is that alright?"
"Ok."Bella replied brightly causing Rosalie to smile at how excited the child looked.
"Hello Bella are you excited for your first day of school?"Rosalie asked as she held out her hand for Bella to take.
"Yes, mommy is to.She says that I get in the way and she deserves a break."Bella innocently told her.
Rosalie held back a growl hearing that.Going on instinct she picked Bella up and cradled her in her arms.Knowing that she shouldn't say anything bad about Bella's mother Rosalie decided to change the subject."So you like Chip and Dale?"
"Daddy and I watch it together.It's my favorite."Bella told her.
"Do you see your daddy a lot?"Rosalie asked.
Bella shook her head."Only when mommy lets me."
"I see."Rosalie held the girl tighter to her making sure not to hurt her taking comfort in her mate being safe in her arms.She would have to think about how to deal with Bella's living arrangements because she didn't want Bella to live in anything but a loving home.
"Good morning Bella."Kristy the 4 year old class teacher greeted as Rosalie walked into the room with Bella in her arms.She gave Rosalie a questioning look at seeing Bella being held but didn't say anything.
"Bella this is is going to be your teacher this year."Rosalie explained.
"Will you be my teacher to?"Bella asked.
"I'm afraid not."Rosalie quickly added when she noticed Bella's frown."But I promise I will come to visit and even take time to see you at recess."
Bella threw her arms around Rosalie."Come back soon."
"Alright little one, I'll come back soon." Rosalie said.She knelt down and set Bella on her feet.She would rather keep Bella in her arms all day where she knew she would be safe but that wasn't something that would be considered normal.She was going to check back on Bella often though because it would to much to stay away from her mate that long."Have a good day Bella."
"Bye Rosalie."Bella said.
Rosalie watched her for a minute as Bella tugged her jacket off and hung it on her hook where Kristy showed.It was hard but Rosalie pulled herself away and with one last look made her way to her office.Once there she closed the door and pulled out her cell phone.There were several missed calls from Alice.Just as she was about to call her sister back the phone rang.Before she could even greet the caller they spoke.
"Rosalie please tell me it's you."Alice's voice sounded desperate.
"Yes, Alice it's me.What's going on?"Rosalie asked.
Alice heaved a sigh of relief."Thank god."
"Alice what's wrong?"Rosalie was now becoming concerned.
"I don't know.I just wanted to check in on how your first day was going but as soon as I tried everything was blank.It was like you were dead.All the visions I had of your future are gone.I was so scared that Jasper and I are on the way to you right now."Alice explained.
"Alice what do you mean my future disappeared?"Rosalie asked.
"It's just gone.The last vision I had of you was greeting the children and their parents and then something happened and now your future has changed."Alice said.
"The last vision you had is of me greeting parents?"Rosalie had a feeling what happened but not sure what it meant.
"You were standing there talking to your secretary and then what happened after that?"Alice asked.
"I met my mate."Rosalie told her.
"What!"Alice screeched."This is so exciting."
Rosalie pulled the phone away from her ear."Jesus Alice calm down."
"Who are they?One of the parents?One of the teachers?"Alice asked in rapid fire.
"Alice let her talk."Rosalie heard Jasper's voice say in the background.
"Sorry, I'm just excited."Alice said.
"It's ok."Rosalie assured her."It's not one of the adults Alice it's one of the students."
"A student?"Alice voice sounded very confused.
"Yes, a little 4 yr old name Bella."Rosalie told her.
"Why didn't I see this though?"Alice asked.
"I don't know but I was standing in the receiving area when I met her so maybe she was the one who messed with your visions."Rosalie figured that Bella was the cause if the events where the same as Alice described.
"It would makes sense but then that would mean your mate is gifted and that gift has to be very powerful as well."Alice mused.
Rosalie couldn't help the pride she felt thinking about her little human having a gift.The only problem with it was that Alice wouldn't be able to see her to protect.It would make things difficult in the future.A plan began forming in her head."Alice I'm going to call the Denalis.Then gather the family we need to have a meeting."
"What are you calling them for?"Alice asked.
"I'll explain everything when we meet tonight."Rosalie told her.
"I hate not knowing."Alice complained.
"Welcome to the world of mortals."Rosalie said before she disconnected the call and dialed Tanya's number.
"Hello."The coven leader's voice greeted over the phone.
"Hello Tanya this is Rosalie."Rosalie said.
"Is this an official call or a friendly call?"Tanya asked.
"A bit of both actually."Rosalie told her.
"Should I gather everyone?"Tanya asked.
"No that isn't necessary.I recently found my mate."Rosalie began only to be cut off by Tanya.
"Rosalie that's wonderful news!"Tanya voice was laced with happiness.
"It is."Rosalie agreed."Unfortunately the girl is a 4 yr old human."
"I see."Tanya said.
"Yes and because of that I will need help to keep her safe."Rosalie explained.
"We are of course at your disposal."Tanya said.
"Is it possible for your guys to come visit us soon.I don't want to make it into something it might not be but I'm worried my mate's mother is abusive.If not physically but at least emotionally and verbally.I want to get her out of the situation but it will be hard and I will need help."Rosalie told her.
"We will help you anyway we can.I will have everyone pack and leave as soon as possible."Tanya said.
Rosalie sighed in relief."Thank you Tanya.I will owe you for this."
"You will owe us anything.Your mate needs protection.I know if either of mine did as well you would do all you could to keep them safe."Tanya reassured her.
"I would."Rosalie wouldn't care what the threat was she would drop everything and run to wherever the Denali needed her.
"Then we agree.It is just us coming together to help a new family member."Tanya's voice took on a hint of excitement."I can't wait to meet the girl.I know Irina and Kate are going to want to spoil her rotten."
Rosalie chuckled at the thought."I think Esme, Alice and Gina are going to as well.I wouldn't be surprised if when I get home Alice already has an entire new wardrobe for the little one."
"I hope for Alice's sake that the girl will like fashion.If not her aunt is going to be very disappointed."Tanya said.
"It will work out.I'm going to let you go.I have some work to do then I want to go check on Bella."Rosalie was already feeling anxious being away from her mate and didn't want to waste any more time without seeing her.
"You do that while I get these guys set to leave.Don't worry Rosalie everything is going to work out fine."Tanya promised.
"Thank you."Rosalie said."Bye."
"Bye."Tanya replied.
Rosalie ended the call and sighed.Finding her mate was cause for celebration but the circumstances weren't the best.It wasn't a problem that Bella was a child.It wasn't even a problem Bella was human.A vampire had been mated to a human child before and as long as they informed the Volturi then Bella would be fine.The problem was that Bella had human parents and at least one of which obviously loved his daughter.If it was just the mother Rosalie could have easily convinced the woman to let Rosalie adopt Bella based on the dislike the woman had for her child.Rosalie wasn't cruel enough to take Bella away from her father.It wouldn't be fair or right to do.That meant they had to come up with a different plan.What that would be she wasn't sure but she would figure it out.
