Over the next few days, the girls text non-stop and Santana is always there to answer Quinn's FaceTime calls.
The Latina is pretty bored of being in the hospital now. Her Mami has gone back to work, so she drops in quite regularly and Blaine is also there a lot of the time, but he's trying to train, ready to go back to school and the ROTC on Monday.
It's now Thursday and Quinn comes home tomorrow, it's currently 9pm and the girls are on FaceTime.
"I've missed you so much." The blonde says, looking extremely exhausted.
"I've missed you too Lucy Q. You look really tired though, you should get some sleep."
"But I wanna talk to you some more." She pouts.
"You're cute baby, but the quicker you go to sleep, the quicker you get to come home."
"I suppose when you put it like that..." She pauses, "I can't wait to see you. I- I really don't sleep well when you're not here." She confesses shyly, looking away from the camera.
This breaks Santana's heart, knowing that her girlfriend can no longer sleep soundly without her around. As if afraid that the nightmares or worse, Russell, will come. They're definitely going to have to work on that over the next two years. It's definitely something she hopes Quinn will bring up in her therapy sessions, that start next week.
"Just one more night pretty girl, then I promise, I'll hold you till you fall asleep every night." She says honestly.
"I know. Everyone is going to bed now Tana so I'd better go. I'll see you tomorrow, I love you."
"I love you too gorgeous." The Latina finishes, blowing a kiss to the camera, making Quinn smile.
Little does the blonde know, Santana has made great progress and Dr. Leigh has happily agreed that she can be discharged tomorrow and she'll be home before Quinn.
Santana is quite sad that she tainted the surprise of the hammock for her girlfriend, but she's sort of hoping that tomorrow she can have a do-over.
She has sent her brother to the store to pick up a new hammock, one that looks completely different to the one before and between himself, Kurt and Mercedes, they had managed to reassemble it in a new position in the garden.
Santana wanted to be sure that they changed where it was, so that she was minimising the risk of causing, yet another, horrible flashback for Quinn.
So, with the thoughts of finally going home and hopes of her girlfriends happy face, she drifted of to sleep, lone behold, her girlfriend having the same thoughts miles away, whilst also falling into a deep slumber.
The next morning, Quinn wakes bright and early, as always when you're with Coach Sue, but sees that her girlfriend rose earlier. When she looks at her phone, she sees that she received a message 36 minutes earlier.
Good morning mi princesa. I hope you have a great last day and I can't wait to see you later. I love you x - S
She smiles brightly and is instantly in a good mood after seeing the sweet words from her brunette.
Good morning baby. I hope you're feeling okay and I can't wait to see you either. I love you too x - Q
And with that early morning interaction, she had a new spring in her step when she climbed out of bed.
"Somebody's happy to be going home, what's got you smiling so big?" Brittany interrogated.
Quinn and Brittany have grown much closer again and the shorter blonde feels really relieved. She's still a little anxious when Brittany is around Santana as she's pretty sure her friend is still harbouring a crush but Santana never reacts or gives her a reason to think she's into Brittany, so that definitely puts her mind at ease.
"You already said it. I'm happy we're going home." Quinn replies shrugging.
"Nope, I know you Quinnie, something else happened. What did Santana do?"
"She just left me a cute message this morning that I woke up to, that's all." She admits.
"God, that girl is perfect. Where do I find one of them?" Brittany jests dramatically, flopping herself on to the bed.
Quinn giggles at her friends silliness, "I have no idea, but that's one's mine." She winks. "Besides, she has a brother who is equally as chivalrous."
"Blaine is hot, maybe we could get to know each other." Brittany thinks aloud.
"There's no harm in trying. He's probably the only man I trust, he's never been anything but great with me and protects me at all costs." Quinn adds.
The more she thinks about it, the more she realises she needs to appreciate Blaine more. He always runs to her aid when she needs it, no questions asked. She knows that he will always protect her, as his sister does, she's just now realising, he's the only man she doesn't run away from, or cringe when he gets too close or touches her. That's definitely something to bring up in therapy.
With that, the girls get ready and head out to their last practise.
Meanwhile, Santana is happy to be moving from the hospital. She hasn't told Quinn, they're going to keep it a surprise, so Blaine has agreed to collect Quinn from the bus and bring her home.
They've devised a plan, that no-doubtably Quinn will be adamant on going straight to the hospital, so Blaine will explain that they need to pick Mari up first from home as she's going to work the late shift.
With this, they all start to gather the Latina's (and what's left of Quinn's) belongings and start to prepare for her discharge.
Whilst Blaine tidies and Santana sort of directs, (she's not great on her legs yet, they're quite weak and so she will need a supportive walking stick for a couple of days until she regains her strength and balance, it's nothing to be concerned over though, as reassured by Dr. Leigh), Maribel has gone off to sign her release forms, leaving the siblings alone.
"I just want to thank you bro." Santana speaks up, this causes Blaine to stop moving and look at his sister.
Since he found her that night, they haven't really spoken that much. Blaine has tried to keep himself really busy so that he hasn't actually thought about what he saw, but now, seeing Santana so vulnerable and realising how long she's been in the hospital and how serious this was, it's beginning to catch up with him.
"For what?" He replies.
"Everything. You saved me. I know what I did was stupid and whatever but if it wasn't for you, I'd be dead right now. I also know you found me because you were protecting Q and Cedes from a potential threat and that means everything to me. I know that if anything ever happened to me, you'd be there for her." She explains.
Blaine's eyes have filled with tears and he embraces his sister tightly, burying his head in her hair.
"You scared me so much. I honestly thought I was too late and you were already dead. Please don't do anything like that again because I don't think I could go through that." He pauses, "Also, you know I see Q as my other sister, she'll always be one of my priorities now."
"Trust me, it'll be a long time before I touch a drop of alcohol, if not ever again." She chuckles, trying to lighten the situation.
Blaine pulls back slowly and Santana wipes his eyes with her thumbs, bringing his head down so that she can kiss his forehead.
"I love you B."
"I love you too sis."
A clearing of the throat grabs their attention and they look to the door to see Maribel standing there with tears in her eyes, adoration on her face.
"Come on, let's get you home."
Blaine gets Santana into the wheelchair (hospital policy) and pushes her to the exit, then helps her into the front seat of the car, before returning the wheelchair, saying bye to the nurses and clambering into the back himself.
Before long, they've returned home, Santana has been bathed and fed and there's around an hour until Blaine has to pick up Quinn.
They have set up the rest of Quinn's surprise and are sitting around watching TV.
"I love Quinn to death but I've missed it being the three of us. I didn't realise it until now." Maribel speaks up.
Santana and Blaine both smile at her and move to take a seat either side of their mother, both placing a kiss on her cheek.
Blaine announces Quinn has text to say she's 10 minutes away shortly after and gets ready to leave.
Santana and Maribel get the remaining last pieces into place before Santana goes outside to sit in the hammock to wait for Quinn. She's out there around 5 minutes before she hears the front door being opened.
Quinn gets into the car and gives Blaine a quick hug. They chat absentmindedly about how camp was and she quizzes him on Santana to make sure she has actually been okay, and not just told Quinn that.
She soon realises that they're on their way home and not to the hospital, when she asks, Blaine explains they need to pick up Mari for her night shift, so they can all go to the hospital together.
As soon as they pull up outside, they both exit the car and Blaine helps Quinn with her bags. He lets the blonde open the front door and she instantly stops when she takes in the scene before her.
Scattered through the hallway are rose petals, two lines of them, leading a path through to the kitchen, with candles dotted through them for light.
She turns to Blaine in confusion and he just removes the bags from her hands and pushes her forward gently.
Quinn follows the rose petals and candles to the back door and when she looks into the garden, she sees something she definitely didn't expect.
Sitting in a very large hammock, with fairy lights surrounding her, is Santana.
Her Tana.
She slowly slides the door open and moves extremely cautiously towards the Latina, who's smile is only growing at the sight of her girlfriend, never breaking eye contact, scared that if she does, then she'll wake up to realise Santana is still in the hospital.
As she gets closer, Santana stands, with the use of her stick, and opens her arms.
"Surprise!" She says, with a smile bigger than any she's ever sported.
Quinn throws herself into the Latina and embraces her tightly, "You're home?" She says, not sure whether it's a question or a statement.
"I'm home." Santana mumbles, burying herself into soft blonde hair, inhaling the smell that she's missed for a week. She soon feels wetness on her neck and pulls Quinn back slightly, wiping her tears, "Why are you crying pretty girl?" She asks worriedly.
"Happy tears baby. I'm just so glad to see you out of that bed. I couldn't stand seeing you in there any longer, it broke my heart."
Santana smiles in response, "Come on, let's sit down, my legs are hurting."
Quinn pulls back quickly and helps Santana lower herself before she quick fires her questions, "Hurting? Are you okay? What's wrong with your legs? Why do you have a stick? How-"
"Woah, woah, woah, slow down baby love. I'm fine, I promise. The muscles are just a little weak, after they shocked me and all, they're just a little sore, I haven't really moved for a couple weeks so I just need to build the strength and balance back up. I'll be fine in a couple days."
Quinn breathes out a sigh of relief and sits next to Santana, actually, she sits as close to her as humanly possible, without actually being on her knee. She wraps her arm tightly around Santana's midsection and rest her head on her shoulder.
"Can I have a kiss now? Because I have missed you sooo much." The blonde pleads, which makes the Latina laugh.
She does, however, turn her body slightly to better position herself and looks deeply into hazel eyes.
"You know you don't have to ask Q but I've missed you too." She says quietly, before gently placing her hand on a pale neck, stroking her thumb across Quinn's jaw and bringing her closer, so that their lips lightly brush at first before Quinn gets impatient and closes the distance.
The kiss is slow and tender and conveys so many feelings, it's passionate and loving. When it ends organically, they instantly rest their foreheads together as Quinn whispers, "I love you."
"I love you so much more." Santana replies before leaning in for another quick peck.
They both shift positions again so that they're lying in the hammock now. Santana on her back and Quinn is directly on top of her, inbetween her legs.
"So, a hammock?" The blonde finally asks.
"Well I wanted to surprise you but you know.." She pauses as Quinn takes a deep breath, "Anyway, I figured that we love the one at Puck's so much, why not have our own? It can be somewhere we come to talk, or just cuddle or we can come here individually you know?"
"I love the idea baby, we first re-connected on a hammock so the thought of having one we can come to all the time is amazing, thank you so much." She exclaims, kissing Santana's neck as that is where her head is resting.
"Anything for you my darling." Santana replies, wrapping her arm tighter around her girlfriend.
They sat in the hammock for a few hours, chatting about Santana's final few days in hospital and Quinn's trip.
She explains how her and Brittany are great now and how she was trying to set her up with Blaine, to which Santana thought wasn't a bad idea.
They lay enjoying each others company until Maribel called them in for dinner and shortly after, they made their way to bed as both of them were exhausted.
"I can't wait to be back in a proper bed." Santana huffs whilst trying her best to get up the stairs, with Quinn's assistance.
"Honestly, I can't wait to have you back in my bed. It seems it's impossible for my body to rest without yours wrapped around it."
"Well worry no more, I'll hold you for as long as you need." She smiles genuinely at her girlfriend as they finally reach the bedroom door.
"How about forever?" Quinn states shyly and looks down.
Santana lifts her chin up gently, "Sounds perfect." She replies, placing a soft kiss on pink lips.
Once inside, Quinn helps Santana change into clean boxers and a t-shirt, while she dresses in boxers and her favourite 'Santana' hoodie and they both brush their teeth before getting into bed.
"I'm glad I can go to bed dressed like this again, I don't think the doctors would have appreciated seeing me in your boxers." Quinn giggles quietly.
"I think it's sexy as hell so I dont care what the doctors would have thought. They make your ass look incredible." Santana replies, manoeuvring herself into position behind Quinn to be the big spoon.
As soon as the blonde lifts her head, to make space for Santana's bottom arm and her other drapes over Quinn's waist, the blonde pulls it around tighter and sighs contently.
"I feel so much better in your arms Tana. Don't let go?"
Santana pulls Quinn even further into her and whispers a 'never' into her hair, placing a small kiss on the back of her neck.
"Goodnight baby love, I love you."
"Night lovebug, I love you."
Both girls sleep for over 10 hours that night, more than they've had for a long time.
