Chapter 21: Garrus Vakarian pt. 2
Garrus walked to the bank to meet with the Volus only to see one turian and one human c-sec officer on the sides of the door. He approached the door pulling out his credentials and showing the officers standing guard. "Head on in." The turian said unlocking the door.
Garrus walked into the bank to see six forensic officers taking evedience and cateloging it while two detectives were looking over the body of a dead volus. He recognized the detectives as a human female named Anita Bogart was talking with her turian partner with the same Palavan markings as himself named Herter Salvisis. Anita looked to the entrance to see the lieutenant approach them. "Hey Garrus what brings you here?" Anita inquired.
"I had a meeting with Barla Von, I take it that is him?" Garrus said pointing towards the dead volus.
"Yeah, he was murdered last night." She told him.
"We still don't have all the evidence to determine if it was a murder." Herter argued.
"You can tell just by looking at the suit rookie." She told her partner. "A clean cut in the suit's filtration system."
"But shouldn't we wait until forensics is done?" Her partner argued.
Garrus grumbled at that. "It's possible that I may be wrong but if it was a suit malfunction then there wouldn't be a visible cut or mark, and if something did break then it wouldn't be this clean, no someone with a bladed weapon cut off function of the suit that keeps the little gut alive." She contended.
"Okay mam." Salvisis relented not wanting to argue with his more experienced partner.
"What also concerns me is the fact that the camera's went dark during the murder so we have no clue who it could be until forensics come in." She explained frustration becoming apparent in her voice. "Now I have a question for you Garrus, what brings you here for a meeting with the victim?"
Garrus sighed. "He was a front for the Shadow Broker, I was going to meet him in his office for information on a case." Garrus said.
"That would explain the safe in his office have two different codes." The rookie said giving his two credits.
The experienced officers turn toward the rookie. "I did a scan of the safe." He said.
The three went to Barla Von's office and approached the safe. Garrus leaned down and leaned down close to the safe. "Please say your name." The safe said.
"Garrus Vakarian." He said.
"Recognized." The safe said before opening partially.
Anita put a glove on before moving the safe was a data stick. She scanned it. "Well Garrus it seems he was going to either sell or give you this data." She told him.
"Let's collect it and head back to headquarters." Garrus said.
In the c-sec executor's office Garrus Vakarian was standing infront of the executor's desk. Detective Bogart was behind him relaxed while her partner standing stiff in a military formation. The executor, a turian by the name of Venari Pallin was taking deep breaths. "So let me get this straight." The executor said stressfully. "A representative of the Shadow Broker was murdered."
The three nodded their heads. "He also happens to have been murdered the night you went and saw him." He continued, pointing at Garrus. "What were you there talking about?"
"I was inquiring if the shadow Broker had information." He said. "He told me that had to talk with his supervisor and that he would talk with me in the morning."
Pallin sighed closing his eyes. "Did you find any evidence on Cerberus?"
Bogart and Salvisis looked at each other in confusion. "We found a data drive; we are still going through the data as we speak." Garrus answered.
"What is Cerberus?" Anita asked.
The rookie looked at his partner in shock. Garrus and Venari turned towards her. The executor giving her slight glare. She scratched her face showing a scar she received from a batarian slaver's knife from when she served in the Alliance.
Garrus sighed. "A possible terrorist group."
"Ah, stupid of them to get into a squabble with the Shadow Broker." She stated. "If your talking about a potential terrorist organization and someone connected to the Shadow Broker wind up dead you tend to connect those dots easily."
The executor sighs dismissing the officers. The three make their exit form his office. "I'm going to check the data left behind." Garrus said.
Anita pulled out a pen like device from her pants pocket before putting it to her lips and before inhaling and blowing out smoke from her mouth. "We need to write our report on the murder anyway, let us know if you find anything."
"Sure thing." He said splitting up from the homicide detectives.
He went to his desk to look over the files. Reading through the files he found that a gangster named Fist betrayed the Shadow Broker and that a Quarian had obtained information on Cerberus' attmpts experiment on the Geth. After reading about the quarrian to see her last known location and found that Cerberus ambushed her and was seen entering a clinic operated by Dr. Chloe Michel. He checked the time to see that Boggart and Salvisis should still be at their desks. He got up and headed for their desks as he had to make a doctor's visit.
