Chapter 22 Two Teens in a Demon World; Cooking Disaster:
Kai was in the kitchen fixing lunch for the other inhabitants. He chopped the vegetables as Owlbert and Blaze handed him some meat.
"Hey, Kai!" a voice said.
"EEP!" Kai squeaked.
He looked to see Luz and King standing beside him. Kai placed a hand to his chest as he calmed down.
"I thought I told you to stop sneaking up on me, especially when I'm cooking," Kai said.
Luz gave him a sheepish smile.
"Sorry. What are you cooking anyways?" she asked.
Kai poured the vegetables in the pot.
"Sancocho," He answered.
King blinked in confusion.
"What's that?" he asked.
"It's a Dominican dish with seven different meats and a variety of vegetables," Luz explained.
"Our mom used to cook it for us when we were little and I figured why not have it in the Boiling Isles," Kai said.
King nodded as he sniffed the air.
"It smells good! I can't wait to eat," he said, licking his lips.
Luz laughed as Kai placed the cutting board down.
"I need to go to the bathroom real quick. Watch the pot for me, Luz," Kai said, walking out of the kitchen.
Luz nodded as she looked at the pot and King climbed off her shoulder. She grabbed a nearby laddel and stirred the pot before scooping some up. Blowing on it, Luz took a sip of the stew.
"It's good but it needs some spice," she said.
"I'm on it," King said.
He jumped down from the counter and looked through the cabinets. King pulled out a red seasoning shaker and ran back to Luz. King jumped onto the counter and poured some of the seasoning into the stew. Luz blinked as the pot began to bubble.
"Um…King…what kind of seasoning is that?" she asked.
King looked at the label.
"Um…Boiling Pepper seasoning. Why?" he asked.
Luz pointed to the pot, the contents spilling out of the sides. King's eyes widened.
"Oh, no," he said as Kai walked into the kitchen.
"Hey, guys, how's the stew coming along?" he asked.
Kai heard bubbling and he turned to see the stew bubbling and boiling.
"Ah…shit," he grumbled.
The pot exploded, sending the stew all over the trio and the kitchen. Kai wiped his face with his sleeve and looked to see the kitchen a complete mess!
"Aunt Eda's going to be pissed," he said.
Luz sighed.
"Looks like we're getting takeout," she said.
King licked his hand.
"The stew's good at least," he said.
Kai and Luz laughed until a voice was heard.
"What happened to my kitchen!?" a voice shouted.
The trio turned to see Eda standing in the door and boy was she pissed.
"Um, nothing?" King said.
Eda glared at them and the three kids gulped.
Later:
Kai, Luz and King were cleaning the kitchen.
"Well, that was a disaster," Kai said.
"Agreed," Luz and King said in unison.
"Less talking, more cleaning!" Eda said from the living room.
The three kids jumped and continued cleaning, lest they make Eda even angrier.
