I don't own Home Alone
Enjoy!
Walking past the hotel lobby, Kevin spotted one guest that was just finishing up with the desk clerk. Perfect he thought. They didn't have to wait any longer to get to their room. He couldn't wait to get inside the room and rest his feet for a while. Being in such a big city and taking care of these responsibilities that only adults did could make anyone tired. As for Becky, she couldn't wait to get into a warm bed and snuggle up underneath the fluffy sheets. Even though this day had turned out to be almost a disaster, she was glad that due to Kevin's wit, they would be close to resting for the night. Now, the only that stood in the way was getting past these hotel employees who may ask them questions. Speaking of which, why did she have a feeling that she and her brother were being watched? Becky slowly turned her head to look to her side, but shook the feeling away. Perhaps it was just her overthinking things as usual. She then turned her attention over to the desk clerk who had stern features and she wondered how they were going to get through her.
Before Kevin approached the desk, he turned around and looked at his sister. "Just follow my lead," he said to her.
There was no argument with his brother there. Becky knew that if she opened her mouth to say something, she might blow Kevin's whole operation and they would probably be out in the streets. "Lead the way," she said to him.
Kevin got closer to the desk and stood on the tip of his toes to get a better look at the desk clerk. Her name tag read Hester Stone and Kevin got ready to put his story into work with this woman. "Hi," he greeted her, only to have her looking up at the siblings with a mixture of perplexity. Kevin mustered up the sweetest smile that he could until the woman inquired if she could help him with anything. "A reservation for McCallister," the little boy said proudly.
Hester raised an eyebrow as she looked at him and then over at Becky, making the girl straighten her back as if the woman's eyes had commanded her to do so. "A reservation for yourselves?"
Kevin knew that no one would believe him and from what he had learned from the life that he had been exposed to, an argument was the best defense that he could use. Of course, an argument wouldn't work well with his parents are his siblings, but with strangers it was something different."Ma'am my feet are hardly touching the ground and I can barely see over this counter. How can I make a reservation for a hotel room? Think about it. A kid going into a hotel room, making a reservation? I don't think so."
Becky bit the inside of her mouth to keep from laughing. The way Kevin spoke to the desk clerk was enough to make the woman rethink the question that she had just asked. Kevin did have a point though. How could a child make a reservation? But then again, this woman didn't know the type of child that Kevin was.
"I'm confused," Hester responded to Kevin with a quick smile.
"We are traveling with our dad," Kevin explained, "he's on business and at a meeting. We hate meetings and we are not allowed to go in, so we only sit in the lobby and it's boring."
Becky shook her head and rolled her eyes, playing along with Kevin's tale. "I would rather be in a cozy room than a lobby with air conditioning...ow!" she yelled when Kevin drew back his foot and kicked her in the shin.
Kevin knew that his sister was nervous, but at this state? Only someone that was crazy enough would open an air conditioner in the middle of winter. Kevin let out a sigh and shook his head. "The lobby's heater is broken and only the air conditioner is working."
"Is that young lady alright?" Hester asked as she looked over at Becky that was nursing her shin.
Kevin looked over at his sister and gave her an apologetic look. "Let me handle it," he whispered over to her before he looked over at Hester, "skiing accident. Her ankle is slowly getting better."
"I did not notice a limp," Hester responded.
"Oh I know," Becky suddenly spoke up, hoping that she could help Kevin successfully, and raised her head to look at the woman, "there are moments where I can easily walk but my two bones rub against one another and it sends a tingle causing me to limp."
I'd like to hear what a doctor thinks about that Kevin thought and he hoped that his sister wasn't thinking about being a doctor in the future. "Anyway our dad. He dropped us off here and gave me his credit card so we could check in." Kevin handed the credit card over to Hester and she took it before he continued, "he said that it was important for us to get into the room so we wouldn't get into mischief, and ma'am sometimes we do get into mischief."
Hester looked up at Kevin and Becky quickly jumped in. "Only this one does, but I keep him under a watchful eye." She smiled as she ruffled her brother's hair causing him to give her a glare. He bought his hand over his head and straightened out his hair. Ha, that's what you get for kicking my shin! Becky mischievously smirked.
Having been convinced of Kevin's tale, Hester went ahead and took in the credit card information. Kevin's eyes were glued on the actions that she was doing, even though there were some processes that he didn't understand. She didn't ask him or Becky any questions about the card and he was surprised at how easy the processes was. "Wow, it worked," he whispered to himself and then quickly smiled when Hester looked up at him.
"Front desk please," Hester called out to the bellhop and gave another smile to the siblings. "Enjoy your stay with us. Don't forget to remind your dad that when he arrives, he has to come down and sign a couple of things."
Becky's breath caught in her throat when she said that. She looked over at Kevin who looked very calm and only said, "thank you you've been most helpful."
What forms did their Invisible Father have to sign? Weren't these things taken care of with the credit card? If only she was an adult, then she could understand these things and maybe make the whole process smoother. However, in the end, they did get that hotel room that they were waiting for so that was better than nothing, right? Becky wished she had Kevin's tranquility but she quickly took a deep breath when the bellhop came over to them.
"May I take your bags?" he asked them, with a smile. 'Cedric' read the name tag and he gladly took the bag that Kevin had been holding for hours on his shoulders.
"Cedric will take you up to your rooms," Hester said as she handed the bellhop the keys to the room and with that, the two siblings followed the bellhop over to the elevators.
The inside of the elevators were huge and once Cedric pressed one of the floor numbers, Becky felt the floor being pushed against her feet. She was glad that she didn't get sick whilst being in an elevator but the moment that they stepped out, she felt those butterflies in her stomach and continued to have the feeling of being on the elevator still.
"This is one of our finest suits, sir and lady," Cedric said and opened the room door for them.
Kevin was amazed at the luxurious furniture that surrounded the room. He explored the master bedroom, the restroom, living room, and the refrigerator that was filled with an endless amount of candies and snacks.
As for Becky, the room looked beautiful and spacious but the moment that her eyes fell on the neatly made bed, she thought that she could hear the chorus 'Hallelujah' being sent from the heavens above. "Oh thank you," she said as she sprinted over to the bed and collapsed face down on the sheets. She took a hold of the corner of the bed cover and happily wrapped herself around it like a cocoon.
"Becky you're like an old lady," Kevin said to her, but he knew that was probably out cold now that her head was in contact with a pillow. "Hey," he then said to the bellhop when he saw him looking inside his bag.
Cedric froze and then held the key with the tips of his fingers. "Did you want me to put the keys in your bag or do you want to hang on to them?"
Kevin approached him and took both the keys and his bag from Cedric's hands. "I'll hang on to them."
Cedric looked down at the child. Even though he had been put up to find out some information about these mysterious guests, he still had to be a proper host. "Is everything alright? Is the temperature in the room okay?"
"It's fine," Kevin said to him.
"Do you know how the TV works?" Cedric asked.
"I'm almost ten," Kevin said to him, "TV is my life."
Seeing that his work was accomplished, he rubbed his index finger and thumb together but instead of getting money Kevin haded him a stick of gum. Now this was a tip that Cedric hadn't expected, let alone a tip that he never received before ever since he started working in this hotel.
"There's plenty more where that came from," Kevin smiled to him.
Cedric stood there dumbfounded before mustering a 'thank you' and then leaving the room. Once he was gone, Kevin threw his bag onto a chair and walked into the master bedroom. Becky was snoring away and the only thing that Kevin could think of was to get out of these winter clothes and into something more comfortable. In hotel rooms, they offered great necessities and he decided to explore at which sections of the room he could find them. Or maybe it was better to not make any noise and let his sister sleep for a while. However, Kevin had already planned an activity that they could do before the night was over once his sister woke up and it was going to be fun. Better make use of everything that the hotel had to offer before it was discovered that their story was false.
