A/N: I had planned this update for last Wednesday, but I'm in between jobs right now which is why this got pushed. Also, my research, well it isn't going anywhere so I thought I could go somewhere with this story instead. I hope you enjoy this one.

Update: I started this in August and completely forgot about it. I realize its October now. Oops.

Chapter 21

Arizona literally jumped as she recognized the envelope in her university mailbox. She had been waiting for this for about two months now and it was finally here. Callie had promised her that she would write her back. Although she was patient at first, and waited for the letter to arrive, but as soon as a week was over and they didn't arrive, she just grew impatient and nervous.

The blonde literally hopped and skipped back to her dorm so she could read the letter in peace. She almost wanted to rip it open right there, but she figured she could wait a minute or two. She couldn't help but think about the last time she called and spoke to the brunette.

Two months ago

Arizona wiped the remaining tears from her face as she watched the plane carrying Danny take off. Her mother was a sobbing mess, while her dad was stoic as ever. The blonde felt the back pocket of her pants buzz. She quickly pulled out her phone to find 'Trouble' calling her. It was a nickname that Callie had given herself when she had managed to sneak her phone number into her contacts.

"Hey," she answered her phone.

"Sugar lips, you sound… are you okay?" Callie asked.

"Umm, Danny's plane just took off."

"Are you still at the airport?"

"Yeah, we are still here. Mom hasn't stopped crying and dad's well, dad is being like his old self. What about you?"

"I just left my sister's house."

Arizona walked to a secluded place in the airport before siting down on the floor and crossing her legs.

"Switch to face time?" The blonde asked.

"What? Why?"

"I want to see you Calliope," she pleaded.

It was weird that Callie refused to video call her, she barely ever did, then why did she refuse her now?

Nevertheless, the blonde still hit the facetime button. Within a few seconds she was connected. She could make out that the brunette was in her uniform with her hat covering majority of her face. She seamed to be in the backseat of some car.

"I thought you just left your sister's?"

"Yeah, I did."

"Then why are you in uniform?"

"Oh, I packed up my place and thought I'd visit her before heading directly to the airport."

That's when it hit her like a ton of bricks. Callie was leaving too, in a plane similar to the one her brother did.

"Remove your hat, I can barely see your face."

"You saw my face hours ago."

"Yeah exactly! It's been hours!"

Callie smiled before complying. "Here, are you happy now?" She teased as she removed her hat and ran her hand through her hair.

The blonde took in her appearance. Callie had buzzed the side of her head and gone back to her usual Marine look, save for the top of her head. She had combed it back, rather than styling it up like she usually did. But what haunted her were her eyes. The soulful brown eyes looked like they were sunken in with a dark red outline around them, as if she had been crying.

"Oh baby. What happened?"

"The war." Callie said as she shrugged her shoulders. "My niece Thalia, she grabbed me and won't let me go. She said something about how I could never leave if she clung onto me."

"Yeah?"

"Aria had to pry her little hands off of me as she passed out from crying."

"Poor child."

Callie looked lost for a second as if she was almost scared to say what she had in mind.

"My mother spoke to me after five years."

"She did?"

"She hugged me and apologized for her ways before telling me to come home safely."

"Well, that's nice of her."

"I don't think she still accepts me for who I am but suddenly the thought of her child dying is scarier than her child going to hell for sleeping with another woman."

"I'm sure she accepts you, Calliope."

"I don't even want to think about her."

For a second no one spoke. They just took each other in almost trying to memorize each other's features through the phone.

"When are you leaving for university?"

"I'm not leaving..."

"Arizona! You are not dropping out for the second time!"

"Danny is off, you are off to fight a war how do you expect me to stay in school when you are fighting for your life?"

"We are fighting, so that you and millions of other like you could go to school, live safely with their families, and have a happy household. We are sacrificing our lives, so you can live a better life."

"Babe, I cannot pay attention in class with you out there-"

"Sugar lips, I am coming back. I'm going to come back and see you in your ridiculous graduation cap and gown with your degree in your hand, with this big smile on your face and all of it would be worth it."

"You'll be here for my graduation?" She asked.

"I cannot make any promises, but I'd like to be there. I want to be the one clapping my hands the loudest as they announce your name on the stage."

"My last name is Robbins; it would take so long for them to call out my name."

"Then I'll wait patiently till you go on stage and get your degree, maybe go grab a cup of coffee, scope out the best snacks for us."

"But then you'll lose your seat!"

"So what? I'll patiently stand behind and wait for you to get your degree."

Arizona smiled dreamily. She was picturing herself on the podium shaking hand with the dean while her eyes were glued on Calliope's watching her clapping as loud as she can with a giant smile on her face. Both of their faces.

"I guess that settles it, I'll see if I can get tickets for next week." The blonde said as she relaxed against the uncomfortable airport walls.

Callie spoke to her driver in Spanish before turning to face her phone. "You can use my jet. I'll give you my pilot's number and you can contact him when you need to get back."

"I cannot ask you to do that Callie," she argued.

"You're not asking, I'm offering. This way you can fly back and forth and check up on your parents from time to time and have it not blow up your account."

Arizona was going to argue but it didn't look like the brunette was going to take no for an answer.

The car suddenly came to a halt, which meant that she too had reached the airport.

"Listen… I got to go…"

"Promise me you'll write to me?"

"Of course, I will Sugar lips. Although, they might take sometime to get there, but I will write back every chance I get."

"And you'll be honest with me, you'll tell me if you get hurt, even if it's a mosquito bite I want to know about it."

"You want me to write you about a small scratch? Or if I stub my toe?"

"I do Calliope, I want to know about everything!"

The brunette smiled. "Your wish is my command, Miss Robbins."

"And please look after Danny, don't let him be a hero, we already had one in the family, I won't be able to live with myself if he too decides to become one."

"Yes, sweetie. I need you to promise me that you'll take care of yourself? That you'll study hard and nail your exams, you'll find love and-"

"Calliope-"

"No! you will try to move on! I don't want to hear anything otherwise."

Arizona knew there was no point in trying to fight about this, especially since the brunette was pretty adamant about this.

"Captain Torres?" The driver spoke to the brunette. "We are all set for you."

Callie nodded before turning her attention to the blonde. "I have to go."

"Come back home safely."

"You take care of yourself."

Present day

Arizona pressed the button for the elevator, it was all the way on the top floor. She repeatedly kept on hitting it in hope that it would come down faster, but since it barely moved a floor, she decided to take the stairs instead. Going two steps at a time, she tapped her id on her door before barging inside. She quickly removed her shoes and kicked them under her bed before she pulled her covers back and pulled them over her head. She tried to clam her nerves but she was failing miserably. She carefully ripped open the envelop to not damage anything inside of it before she flipped it open and started reading. She found the corner of letter with the number four written on it. She quickly counted the pages. Maybe Callie mis ordered them but none of them had any other number on it.

My Sugar lips,

I have no idea how long this letter will take to get to you but I hope it doesn't take too long. Last time we spoke you promised me that you'd go back to school, so I hope this letter gets to you sooner than later. God babe, I miss you so much. I miss our life together. I miss doing everything and nothing with you.

Its very sad here. Too many people are dying way too fast and there is nothing I can do to stop it. I lost… we lost another captain here and I was sent to replace them. I'm fine though. I have been taking extra care of myself because I know if I don't, you'll definitely kill me one I get back. I have been trying to look out for Sargant Robbins as much as I can, but he is on a different base than me. But I know that he's alive if he hasn't reached out to you yet and that he's doing well.

I'm not sure if your letter would get back to me, but please write back to me. I would like to hear about anything other than this mess. I wrote you three letters before this and I'm probably going to write a couple of more after this one, maybe one of them gets through to you. I am making them on the corner so you know which ones made it to you. It's about one am here and I can tell that everybody here is wide awake. Today was a rough day for us here. We umm, we had to drag the bodies of our fallen comrades or what we could save of them so that their families could find some peace. It was so much blood, limbs everywhere.

You remember Addie? My friend you met on your birthday? She nearly died today trying to save a man who had three kids at home. His wife had died on duty and she couldn't let his children become orphans. I watched her put her life on the line, knowing that she probably could have died and never got to see her own child in the process. She's fine though. She got away with a bunch of scrapes and bruises. I got so mad at her about the whole thing that I might have punched the wall here and hurt my knuckles a bit. It was funny though; Addie bandaged my hand while I tended to her leg.

We are almost out of medics here. Things got so rough that it was difficult to risk anymore civilian lives. We are training in first aid, but if anyone needs surgeries here then we are screwed. The positive side to all of this would be that we are fully stocked, at least for now. I would die for some chocolate chip cookies though; I mean not die die but you know what I mean.

I know I told you I packed my apartment, but well I kind of lied. I restocked it instead. The key is at the front desk. You can go visit any time you want. It has all your favorite snacks ready for you in the cabinets.

A promise is a promise.

I want to see you graduate, I want to see you achieving all of your dreams, hopes and aspirations. I will try to write you as much as I can, but I do not know if all of them will get to you in time or even if they do get to you. Tell Barba and the Colonel I said hi. And if you can please try to get in touch with my sister. I'm writing to her as well, but I'm not to sure if she gets them.

Thalia's birthday is coming soon and I promised her Disneyland. I cannot even begin to tell you how guilty I feel about it. But then the world started collapsing and I got deployed. I would really appreciate it if you could find some time and take her there. She always wanted those ridiculous Mickey Mouse ears. Please use my jet to get to Florida. You can speak to my pilot and he'll make sure everything gets charged to my chart. If you do decide to go, promise me you won't eat too much candy there and at least try to put some real food in you. I know I'm not there to put some nice home cooked meals, but please take care of yourself.

Yours faithfully,

Calliope

Arizona wiped the tears that had formed in her eyes before pulling the letter to her face. As if hoping to find some smell of the brunette to provide her comfort. Even though she knew it was stupid that this letter was probably written weeks ago and has been through several places before it got to her, but she still couldn't help herself. When she couldn't smell her favorite person in the whole world, her tears started flowing down more rapidly. She hugged the letter to her chest before setting it down and hopping on her own desk to write a letter of her own.

She knew that the next few months were going to be more difficult, but for her Callie was worth all this pain.

A/N: Once again, my apologies for slacking off. I have so many things going on that I couldn't find the time to finish this.

I promise I have not abandoned my stories. I will be back and finish them, but it would take me some time. Thank you for being patient and showering me and my work with all your love.
