Chapter 36
Jandy in episode 6x02 was so good! Though, I'm sad Mandy will be leaving for her new job since we know Jessica Pare is only a guest star on the show. I know based off interviews; all the guys are going to have some dark battles, but I hate seeing Jason doing it alone. Counting on DB and his words of a payoff to come in the end. I still think jandy is solid. Anyways, sorry for the delay on a new chapter. Enjoy!
"Hey, you guys good," Joe called out as he rushed up and did a brief glance over everyone.
"Yeah, we're all good," Mandy nodded.
"Boss, you got blood on you," Sarah said concerned. "And Jason."
"Not ours," Mandy answered.
"And who do we have here," Jessica asked sweetly to the little boy clinging to Emma.
"We don't know his name," Emma answered.
"Cops are tracking down family as we speak," Mandy started briefing. "Everything started over there. You guys start going over the crime scene here. I'm gonna ride with these guys to the hospital and check on the victim. Joe, you're running point from here."
"Agent Ellis," an officer called out. "We got a hold of the victim's husband. He is on his way to the hospital."
"Thanks," Mandy nodded back. "Any questions?"
"Got it, boss," everyone acknowledged.
Jason drove the kids and Cerb in his truck with Mandy following towards the hospital in her car with Ace. Before walking in, Mandy went to her trunk and pulled out a duffle bag with some clothes. Jason had done the same. Both were ready to change out of their bloody clothes. Mandy led them up to the nurses' station to ask about their victim.
"Are you family?" the nurse asked.
"No, I'm Agent Ellis of the FBI. We were at the scene and have her son. Husband is on his way," Mandy explained flashing her badge.
"Mandy?" Naima called out as she came up to the nurses' station. "Is everything okay?" she asked concerned. "Oh my god, is that blood on you?"
"Naima, not ours," Mandy reassured her. "We both need to change real quick. We were at the market shooting and with one of the victims brought in. This is her son."
"Oh my god, did he get checked out?" Naima asked.
"He did, but think you can just make sure?" Mandy asked as Naima nodded. "His father is on his way. Think he's in shock. Hasn't spoken to any of us but seems attached to Emma here."
"Sounds about right," Naima said as Emma put the boy on the bed and Naima started to examine him. "Last I heard, the woman was in surgery, and it was critical. You guys gave her a fighting chance, or she'd be gone."
"Just doing our jobs," Mandy replied as she slipped into the bathroom to change her shirt.
"My wife and son! They were brought in here," a man's voice asked panicked.
"I'll go handle that," Mandy said walking out of the bathroom. "Sir, sir. My name is Agent Ellis from the FBI. I have your son over here, but I need you to calm down a little okay. Your wife is in surgery and your son is scared. Take a deep breath," she explained as the husband breathed with her. "Okay, that's good. Come with me."
"Brandon," the father breathed out as he took his son in his arms and cried.
"Daddy," the little boy said softly. "Mommy hurt."
"Yeah buddy," the father breathed out.
"Sir, I'm so sorry to do this but I need to ask a couple questions," Mandy asked gently. "This is Jason Hayes. He helped get your wife to safety. This is Emma and Brad who have kept company as well. They'll stay with Brandon while we talk just outside."
"Okay," the father said gathering his emotions.
"Your wife, was she at the market for any particular reason?" Mandy asked.
"She said we needed some groceries and decided the fresh market was a good place to go," the husband answered. "Do you think she was shot on purpose?"
"We're still gathering information at the moment but can't rule anything out," Mandy explained. "It sounds like she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. My team and I will work the case and hunt down who did this."
"Thank you," the husband said. "I'm going to go back to my son."
"Of course," Mandy nodded.
After talking with the husband, the team called Mandy to go over what they had gathered. Mandy had let them know that she'd meet them at the mobile headquarters to figure out what their next move was. Mandy walked back into the room and paused in the doorway. Brandon was smiling as his father held him and Emma made the dogs do tricks. She smiled watching the scene, glad everyone was having a nice moment after a traumatic day.
"Got anything," Jason asked as he stood next to Mandy and watched with her.
"Got some shell casings and going through surveillance footage as we speak. I gotta head out and meet up with the team. Hopefully, we get some facial ID soon so we can start looking for the shooters," Mandy told Jason. "Emma and Brad okay?"
"For now, it seems," Jason sighed as Mandy grabbed his hand.
"Hey, she's strong," Mandy said squeezing Jason's hand. "We'll be there for her if things go sideways."
"I've always tried to shield her from the evil of the world," Jason sighed as he brought Mandy's hand up to kiss.
"Maybe we can shield her from the around the world but here in your own backyard, it's hard," Mandy sighed. "I need to get going," Mandy said as she stepped towards everyone else. "Sorry to do this, but Ace and I gotta go."
"Ace go?" Brandon asked with a tilt of his head.
"Yeah, he's gotta help me find the bad guys, but I think Cerb here could keep you company," Mandy replied with a smile.
"How long are you gonna be gone?" Emma asked.
"However long it takes to catch these guys. You okay?" Mandy asked as she put a hand on Emma's shoulder reassuringly.
"Just be safe," Emma said pulling Mandy in for a hug.
"Always," Mandy smiled as she gave Emma a squeeze. "If you need anything, your Dad is here and so am I. Call or text and I'll get back to you okay. You went through something today. You're gonna feel a lot of things and that's okay," Mandy said as Emma nodded back. "Same goes for you Brad," Mandy said. "Come on Ace, let's go. Cerb, you be good," Mandy said giving Cerb a kiss.
"Be safe and come back home," Jason said pulling Mandy in for a kiss.
"Always," Mandy smiled and kissed him one more time before waving goodbye to everyone else.
"Must be hard," the husband said as they sat in the waiting room. Brandon was playing with Cerb, Emma, and Brad in the nearby chairs. "Eric. My name is Eric."
"What?" Jason asked confused as he shook Eric's hand. "Jason."
"Watching her leave for danger," Eric said referring to Mandy, causing Jason to chuckle. "Okay, that's not the reaction I was expecting."
Before Jason could answer, Sonny's voice could be heard, "Now I heard you guys got yourselves into some trouble. Who's hungry?"
"Uncle Sonny," Emma called out.
"What are you guys doing here?" Jason asked as he got up to greet the rest of the team.
"Between Naima and Mandy, they called to let us know what happened. You guys okay?" Clay asked.
"Yeah, we got lucky. This is Eric, his wife was shot and is in surgery. His son Brandon was there too but he's okay," Jason explained.
"Sir," Trent greeted with a nod. "Mind if we wait with you?"
"Ummm, I don't understand," Eric asked confused.
"Well, you see here," Sonny began to explain. "We're a team and our mighty Captain America here has now added your wife onto the list of saved lives."
"Sonny," Jason rolled his eyes.
"Mandy okay?" Brock asked.
"Yeah, we're all good. Just a little shaken up," Jason said looking over towards the kids.
"She's Emma Hayes, daughter of Master Jason Hayes. She's strong and gets through it," Sonny stated.
"Master Chief? Military?" Eric asked. "You and your wife sure love danger."
"You and the spook got married?" Sonny exclaimed.
"We're not married," Jason corrected.
"Not yet," Brock and Trent muttered as Jason rolled his eyes.
"Mandy and I used to work together before she took a job with the FBI," Jason explained. "If there's anyone you want finding these guys, it's her."
"I believe you," Eric said. "Thank you all. Now what's a spook?" Eric asked causing the guys to laugh.
"What do we got?" Mandy said as Ace barged into the mobile command center ahead of her.
"So far, not much. Running any and all security footage through facial recognition. Lab is analyzing blood found nearby where you may have shot one of the suspects," Jessica answered.
"Talked with people in the area. No one is saying anything gang related but I get the feeling a lot of those market stand people are scared," Ryan added.
"Do we have anything to tie it back to gangs? Anything from local PD's gang task force or ours of any activity in the area?" Mandy asked.
"Reached out to FBI gang task force and they didn't have anything big noted but are going through records. Local PD said they'd get back to us. They seemed less than pleased that the FBI was involved," Sarah responded.
"Less than pleased as usual we sweep in and steal their case or like they're in on something and are worried about us exposing it?" Mandy raised an eyebrow as she sat down and looked over files.
"Leaning towards the second," Joe said walking in from outside with coffees in hand. "Seems like chatter is saying local task forces were supposedly working on something big. Some cops though say lately what are supposed to be big busts end up not being so big."
"Great, possible corrupt cops," Mandy said reading a file and taking a sip of coffee.
"Got something," Sarah suddenly said. "Blood sample came back with a hit of someone in the data base. Meet Jose Rojas. No priors or any criminal history really. His brother, however, is a different story."
"Maybe Jose got dragged into his brother's troubles," Jessica said.
"Says his brother died in prison last year while serving a five-year sentence for armed robbery," Sarah replied.
"And as far as we know, he wasn't at the scene and questioned by us or police?" Mandy asked.
"Nope," Sarah replied. "He's got a place of employment on file though."
"Where?" Mandy asked.
"Synergy Enterprises," Sarah answered.
"That's right Tom. Gunfire erupted in the marketplace in Virginia Beach this afternoon. We're told some victims were taken to the local hospital with one being critical," a news reporter said.
"Are authorities giving any details right now?" the new anchor asked.
"Right now, no specific details have been released. We did see FBI agents on scene earlier processing evidence and talking to witnesses. Some witnesses are saying two heroic people may have saved the mother and her child this afternoon as well," the reporter said.
"Thank you, keep us updated," the news anchor said before the TV was muted.
A man sat in a living room watching the TV on mute as the news continued to show all the police activity occurring at the market. As he watched, he sat up on one shot. He quickly grabbed the remote and rewound the DVR to freeze it.
"Why hello there Agent Ellis," the man said.
