Chapter 14: New Life

Perhaps the feeling wasn't really mutual since after that night Vergil pretended Anne didn't even exist. He ignored her completely, even more so than before. Every time she got in the same room he was, he would just not make eye contact, nor say anything. He just ignored her plain and simple.

Now she was sure that love stories didn't exist, at least those were not meant for her; she would never be a damsel and he would never be her knight in shining armor. It had been just sex, raw sex...pure lust that made them get carried away that one night in time.

That one night several weeks ago. It came and went too fast. No matter how much she played it in her head over and over again it would never add more meaning to what it really was: just sex.

"I guess all men are the same…"

She kept to her routine, cleaning, cooking, washing and so forth. Not that she was envious, maybe only a little bit, but seeing Kyrie and Nero was only making her feel worse.

Why did it work out for them and it couldn't work out for her? She didn't have half the problems those two had and here she was…

She went downstairs, excited that the weekend was finally coming. It had been a couple of weeks since thathappened. Sure she felt weird and embarrassed altogether. She didn;t know what she was feeling to be honest. Could it be love? Perhaps. She was definitely smitten though. She would finally get the guts to invite him out. The weekend was around the corner and she could go out and enjoy the world. She was finally going to gather her wits and ask him out. Ok, maybe it should have been the other way around, but why not? She lives in a modern world now.

"How am I going to go about this?"

The movies sounded like fun, right? Who didn't like going to the movies on a Friday night? She decided to ask him out, she just needed to find the right time to do so. He was gone most of the time and when he was in he spent most of the time locked away or dealing with Dante.

That morning Dante and Vergil had their round. Lady and Trish were in the kitchen talking about nothing in particular. It was when she saw him there, halfway through the door. From her standpoint it would be the perfect time to ask him out. Although they were close to the kitchen window, she was quite sure that Lady and Trish would not be able to make their words outside. Vergil was heading towards his car on the driveway while she was just placing a few bags in the trash. Before he could open his door she jumped right in front of him.

"Hey, hi."

He proceeded to unlock the car as if she was not even there. While he was at it she proceeded.

"I was wondering if you'd like to go to the movies tonight, or anytime on the weekend really…there is this nice movie on…"

"I'm not interested."

Those were the rushed words she got in return before Vergil got in his sleek car and drove away.

Well, she was not one to give up that easily. Maybe he was annoyed? He seemed to be stressed up more often now, with Dante and him involved in "jobs"or whatever it was that they did together. She could not for the life of her know what they actually did for a living, well it was none of her business anyways.

Of course it was a bit odd to invite her boss to have dinner, but why not? She was quite certain everyone in that house knew what they had done a few weeks prior. WHat was done was done, no use trying to deny it, was there? She was interested in him and although he was a bit awkward towards her it didn't mean he was just like every other man she had heard of, right? Even if he was, she would at least try.

He seemed to be calm, on his own in the kitchen. This time around she went ahead and bought a couple of tickets for a dinner theater that was in town with her last paycheque. It would be a beautiful classic play with an orchestra and a three course meal all in a single place and in a single evening. It would be right on Vergil's alley. They were even supposed to wear finer clothes! She was certain he would find that more interesting than movies.

Of course she was afraid of getting another no. She went down and slowly placed the tickets in front of him, on the table. He looked at them and didn't flinch.

She cleared her throat and started, "There will be this marvelous orchestra dinner this weekend. It should be a beautiful evening, they are acclaimed. Would you like to go with me? I got both these tickets thinking…"

She was babbling and by the time she was finished Dante was also coming down the stairs. She was so engrossed in trying to get a response that she didn't even hear the other brother coming.

"I have no desire to partake in any activities with you."

The color drained from her face not just because of the embarrassment, but especially because she heard footsteps approaching from behind.

Vergil didn't even look at her, not at the tickets that she had placed right in front of him.

"Come on bro, loosen up! The lady is asking you out, be the gentleman you are and…"

"You're welcome to accompany her, brother.". Those were the last words before Vergil got up and left the house that day.

She wanted that handsome and mysteriously attractive man to love her, even if he would only show it to her on their heated nights...It didn't matter, she only wanted to be loved.

She was going to feel and receive love, but not in the way she was expecting.

She started feeling uncomfortable, she felt her stomach getting sick every morning, no more periods, she knew very well what it was, she just couldn't hold its grasp. Those were the telltales of…

Kyrie got worried since not so long ago she experienced the same symptoms, so she managed to take Anne to a drugstore and bought some minute pregnancy tests, only to confirm what she was already suspicious about.

And yes, she was indeed expecting a child.

No one else's but Vergil's child.
