I have no idea why, but I was nervous as hell. I knew Bob very well, Claire not so much but she seemed nice when I met her for Jay's wedding. There was something about our relationship now that made this interaction different. I felt like I needed to make a good impression for some reason, which of course I know it's completely delusional considering that Bob already knew me when Adam and I were involved back in the day and right now I felt like I was meeting my boyfriend's family for the first time.
"If you're waiting for the mirror to talk to you. I don't think it will. However, I can tell you that you look stunning." Adam walked into his bedroom and stood behind me as his arms enveloped my waist and his lips kissed my neck, before he rested his chin on my shoulder which totally made me smile.
He had a point. I had been standing in front of that mirror for pretty long while, because none of the clothes I brought made me feel confident for tonight.
"You're only saying that because we're running late."
"I'm actually saying that because the serious and sophisticated look suits you very well and I can't help but come up with all these different role play ideas." He wiggled his eyebrows with hungry eyes.
"You are such an ass." I laughed at his one track mind, but secretly loved his way of showing me his desire.
"But you love me."
"I do." My body unconsciously melted into his.
"And I bet that dirty mind of yours can't wait until later tonight when I share all my ideas."
"This dirty mind of mine?" I laughed at his choice of words, although it was true; if Adam had a one track mind regarding sex, I had a pretty… "creative" mind when it came to being with him. Guilty as charged.
Adam nodded at my question with a playful smile. "If I have a dirty mind that's because of you."
"And I'm proud of that darling." His hands began to move up and down, which had a soothing effect on me. I turned around in his arms to kiss him, and he was quick to cup my ass.
"Let's get going, I don't want to be late for our play date tonight." I winked at him before walking out of the room. I could sense Adam following behind me and from the corner of my eye I saw how he was shaking his head. I knew he was going to be thinking about us together all night long.
"If you want, we can cancel and start playing now."
"Nah. I like the idea of my dirty mind teasing you all through dinner." I threw the comment out there as I seductively walked to the door.
"You wouldn't do that with my dad and Claire around."
"Ok." I shrugged leaving him awfully confused. "Let's go and find out."
He laughed again and struggled to unlock the door, he was beginning to get a little hot and bothered. "Babe, we have to stop somewhere on the way there so I can buy something to take to Bob's house. Wine, cake? What do you think is best?"
"You don't need to take anything. Bubz, come on. It's not the first time you see dad or Claire and he loves you already."
"It's different, though. It's like we're really together now. Besides, I don't want to go there empty handed."
"Well, if the issue is keeping your hands busy I have something else in mind."
"Yeah?" I asked, biting my bottom lip in an attempt to keep my laughter under control. "I have that in mind too, but for dessert." I whispered into his ear as I hooked my arm around his and walked together to Bob's car, which Adam was still using.
"Damn it, Kim. You know what you're doing to me, right?"
"No, what?" I played dumb and he turn his head to look at me, showing me that crocked grin that turned me into a complete puddle of mush.
"I'll show you as soon as I can get you alone in a room."
"Sounds interesting."
We got in the car and flirted all the way to Bob's place and after nagging him non stop about it, Adam finally stopped so I could buy a bottle of wine since Claire had already gotten dessert ready, even though he insisted it wasn't necessary for me to take anything.
"Kim! It's so nice to see you here. Welcome to New York." Bob wrapped me in a hug as soon as he got the door.
"Thank you and it's very nice to see you, too. This is for you." I said, handing him the bottle.
"You didn't have to bring anything."
"That's what I told her." Adam added. "Hi, by the way." He stepped closer to his pops to hug him.
"Oh don't be jealous now, but she gets all the attention today."
"She totally will." He looked at me with a dirty look which his father totally picked up on and my face turned red almost instantly.
"Come on in. Claire is waiting for you with a delicious meat and cheese platter." Bob realized I wanted the world to swallow me and was quick to change the subject and try to make me feel better. I was gonna kill Adam for this. "How has this knucklehead been treating you?"
We started to make small talk as we entered the house and walked towards the living room, where Claire was waiting for us with a beautifully decorated and very well catered table. "Like a true gentleman."
"See? Did a good job raising me up pops." Adam joked, making all of us laugh. "Hi Claire. That looks delicious."
"Hi honey." The older woman walked over to him and hugged him with tender affection, leaving a kiss on his cheek. It was so nice to know that he had some kind of motherly love even if his mom was no longer with us. "Hello Kim, it's a pleasure to have you over."
"Thanks Claire. It's a pleasure to be here."
"When Adam told us you were coming to New York, Bob and I were so excited to have you over, as part of our family."
Her words cut deep through my heart and I knew Adam realized it when I felt his fingers around mine.
"Well," Bob started to speak. "Kim and Adam were always family and something tells me that's how it was always meant to be."
"Bob told me some stories about you two growing up, and I think they're adorable." Claire told me as she invited us to take a seat on the couch. "The bond you all share with your brothers. The wedding was exquisite by the way."
"Yeah, it was. They put a lot of love and thought into it. And definitely, my brothers are amazing, they are a huge part of my life. So is this guy." I nudged Adam gently, getting a smile out of him. "Always has been."
"I love you." His words came out as if nobody was watching us and his eyes locked on mine before he gave me a sweet kiss.
"Me too." I was blushing a bit. I wasn't used to public displays of affection, especially in front of his family.
"Young love. That's sweet." Claire commented.
"You know something funny about them?" Bob asked Claire and I was a bit nervous to hear what he had to say. "When they were teens, they actually thought we didn't know they were dating."
"You knew?" Adam was startled and Bob only laughed and nodded.
"Of course we knew. You both had the same puppy dog eyes when you were around each other as you have now. We would always comment on that with Pat."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"We figured you were going to tell us when you had everything sorted out, and after telling your brothers."
"I think at the moment Jay was more the issue than Will." I added.
"And how is that working out now?" Claire asked. She seemed very interested in our love story.
"Well, they actually interrogated me and threatened to kill me if I hurt her, but other than that it's great." Adam shared with the rest of us. Bob and Claire couldn't decide if he was telling the truth or not, but knowing my brothers and the relationship the three of them had, I had no doubts that had happened.
"My brothers are a bit protective." I laughed. "But they also love Adam, so sometimes the joke is on me." Now it was them who laughed. "They are very supportive of us."
"They know as well as we do that this is it for us, that we really want this, and that our intentions are good." Adam helped me complete the idea.
"And what are your intentions?" Bob joined us in the arm chair across from us as he got some wine in our glasses, while I just took a deep breath at his question and Adam held my hand.
"You know this, Pops. We want to give ourselves a real chance. Move in together, maybe start our own family."
I looked at him in complete shock. So far we hadn't included our own family into our plans. It totally took me by surprise to hear him say that to his father, but at the same time I loved it. Adam looked at me with a sweet smile on his face and shrugged. "Well at some point we will, I guess."
"Have you thought about where you want to settle down?" Bob asked again. Everyone wanted to know the same thing and it was frustrating not to have an answer, especially because I wanted to know as well but for some reason I keep pushing that decision towards the future.
"Um, we have vaguely talked about it, but we decided to enjoy these days first and then make a decision, or at least have a better idea of what we want, before I leave."
"Ok. That sounds good. I just wanted to let you both know that Claire and I will fully support whatever you decide. If you stay here we will be thrilled and if you move back to Chicago we'll be happy as well and will visit you every time we get a chance to."
"Thank you so much Bob. It's a big call to make, but knowing that our family has our back lifts up a huge weight off our shoulders."
"Yeah, pops. Thanks. We'll let you all know once we figure it out ourselves."
Turns out Adam was right. I had nothing to be worried about because dinner was great and Bob and Claire did nothing but make us feel comfortable and loved.
However, I was determined to prove my man wrong and show him that I was capable of some things he thought I would never do.
When we moved over to the dining room, the table was set so that Adam and I could sit next to each other. Claire had left to the kitchen, refusing my help to bring the food, leaving me with both Ruzeks.
"So, Adam, how's Alvin doing?" Bob started to make some light conversation.
"Umm, he's um, he's fine."
"A lot of work in the unit?"
"Yes. The week was loaded." Adam answered with difficulty and swallowed hard as soon as he finished his sentence.
"Are you alright?" His dad seemed a bit concerned over Adam's face.
"Yeah, babe. You don't look so good. Do you want some water?" I asked playing dumb and he looked at me trying his best to hide the desperation on his face.
"Yes please."
Bob handed his son a glass of water and he finished it in three big gulps. Both his hands were on the table because he knew that if he put one of them down to stop his misery he would be selling me out.
My right hand was on his thigh, slowly sliding into its inner part and moving up a little to strike his groin with enough force to show him how much I wanted him.
"Better?"
"Yeah, pops."
I'm not sure if he was better or not, what I did know was that if I kept my hand there the situation was going to be impossible to hide.
"Good. How about you Kim?"
"What?" I asked a bit worried, had Bob just called me out?
"What's it like working for the CPD nowadays?"
"It's great. I mean, I love it. Intelligence is amazing, and I guess that working with my brother and my best friends is also an asset."
"I think the fact that you both love your jobs and that you understand the nature of it totally benefits you. You know what the other one is going through and you can empathize better."
"Totally agree." I answered smiling while my hand was still playing with Adam's most intimate part. "We really get each other. Right bubz?"
"That we do." He got more water and excused himself to go to the bathroom. "I'll be right back."
Bob and I continued to talk about the CPD, him sharing some stories about when he used to work there until Claire came back with some bowls and platters and she finally allowed me to help her.
I laughed to myself when I saw Adam coming back from the toilet with a slightly wet forehead.
"Hope you kids like it." Claire said once everyone was served.
"It smells great!" I added before getting the first bite.
While we were eating, I did my best to kick off one of my shoes and hooked my foot on his calf, moving it up and down and getting a nervous yet hungry look from him.
As we were getting ready for dessert, I offered to take the dishes back to the kitchen and bring the cheesecake and plates to the table. Apart from doing something and giving Claire a hand, my true intention was for Adam to join me, which he did.
"I'll help you." He was quick to stand up and begin to gather the plates and utensils before walking to the kitchen and turning to look at me, to make sure I was following him.
Once in the kitchen he left everything on the counter and closed the door, while I began to load the dishwasher.
"You're driving me crazy." He whispered to my ear as his hands wrapped my waist and he pressed his groin to my back.
"I thought I wasn't gonna be able to do that with your dad and Claire around." I teased, enjoying the contact of his body with mine.
"I get it. I was wrong. You totally can." He was a bit agitated as his lips gently brushed against my neck. The mix of his desire and mine, plus the setting we were in was doing all types of damage to my judgement and self control. I started to move around the kitchen, turning on appliances and getting the task done. The actual task. My boyfriend just followed me around, unable to keep his hands to himself. "What are you doing? Stop moving for a second." I laughed at his desperation.
"I'm buying ourselves some time." I turned around in his arms and winked at him before grabbing his face and crushing his lips in a bruising kiss. Our tongues were going wild and his hands were roaming all over my body until he decided to leave them on my ass and push me closer to his body.
My hands weren't far behind. The only difference was that they were exploring the waistband of his jeans and trying to unbutton them.
"Kim, wait." He whispered almost giving up.
"Shhh, trust me?"
"Always."
"Ok." My lips silenced his questions and my hand pushed down his pants and boxer just enough to leave his erection exposed to me. I pushed him closer to the door so that he could block it, just in case of an interruption. When I had him exactly where I wanted him, I slid down making my knees touch the ground and my hands grabbed his hips.
The sounds of the dishwasher and the coffee maker that I had previously turned on, did a great job camouflaging Adam's silent moans when he felt my mouth around his length.
His left hand went to the back of my head, playing with my hair as my tongue was happily caressing that very sensitive skin.
I looked up to find him staring down at me and biting his lower lip in a complete state of bliss. When I started to suck with more force, he leant his head back, losing himself in the moment.
I was aroused as well. Pleasuring him was a huge turn on for me, and right now I just wanted to make him cum. My movements started to pick up speed as I altered the pressure I was applying, causing the effect I was looking for.
He couldn't speak, he didn't want to make any noises because that meant that we were gonna get caught; instead his hand lightly pressed on my head letting me know he was almost there.
A few seconds later, he exploded in my mouth. I could feel how his breath was going a mile a minute as both his hands were playing with my hair, trying to calm himself down.
I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and pulled up his boxers and jeans before standing up and looking at him.
"Are you ok?"
"Are you fucking kidding me?" He asked and kissed me, holding the back of my head with his hand. "I can't believe that just happened. You left me speechless."
I kissed him again and smiled.
"Take the cheesecake. I'm right behind you with the coffee."
He nodded, smiling and did as I suggested.
"What took you so long?" I heard Bob's question from the kitchen and laughed, waiting to see what Adam was going to say.
"Kim decided to load the dishwasher and get it going along with some coffee that she's bringing out right now."
"Adam, that wasn't necessary." Claire added.
"Well, Kim insisted and I couldn't say no. She is a pretty driven woman."
"I'm glad she's making a decent guy out of you." Bob made me laugh and I tried my best to hide that as I walked to the dining room with the cups of coffee.
Both the cheesecake and coffee were great, but without a doubt our little adventure in the kitchen was going to be remembered as the highlight of the night.
Adam was about to get a cab to take us back to his place, not only to give Bob back the car but also because we may have had one too many drinks. As we were getting ready to say goodbye, Bob explicitly let us know that he approved of our relationship.
"Kim." Bob came closer to me, as if he wanted to keep what he was about to say private, although everyone was able to hear his voice. "You were always a part of our family, your parents and brothers too. I just wanted to tell you how happy it makes me to know that you two found each other again. I know how important you always were to him and how much he loves you." The combination of his words and the amount of alcohol running through my body was making me want to cry. "Adam is a great guy, solid, honest, he has a huge heart; but after that trip to Mexico, that sparkle in his eye that I hadn't seen for a while came back, and I'm sure you have a lot to do with that."
"I'm really happy too. I missed him so much and I didn't even know how much until I saw him again." I had a million more things to say, but it felt weird confessing my love for Adam to his father and stepmother.
"I'm immensely grateful to you all, for being there for him when I wasn't able to do it myself." Bob was about to break. Adam's childhood wasn't easy; Bob wasn't able to be around as much as he wanted to due to his work, and the Halstead's had no problem in taking him in and then my mom and I jumped into those same dynamics, no questions asked.
"We all did the best we could, Pops." Adam squeezed his dad's shoulder, knowing that any further display of affection was probably going to make them both cry a bit. "And now, everything is how it was always meant to be." He pecked my lips lightly before going to hug both Claire and Bob, since our cab was on its way.
"Thank you so much for having me. Claire, dinner was delicious."
"You're welcome to come anytime." I hugged them both and walked out the door hand in hand with Adam.
"I love you." The words made a natural path from my heart to my mouth, slipping out of my lips as a whisper.
"I love you too, bubz. Tonight was nice."
"It was." I agreed as we were getting into the car that showed up to pick us up. "But it's not over yet."
