Holmes Convention

Two Holmeses and a Con

Shinichi had run into Hakuba Saguru before. Well, no, Edogawa Conan had. Shinichi himself, in his real body, had never met the other teen detective. When he did, it wasn't on a case though. It was at a Sherlock Holmes Convention in Toyko. The one he had looked forward to and that everybody had ditched him at. He'd even asked Haibara to come along. The glare on her face still haunted him. No, instead, in his full Sherlock costume, Shinichi ran into Hakuba Saguru.

"Hakuba-san," Shinichi blinked, before realizing the other didn't know him. "I'm-"

"Kudou Shinichi," Hakuba's eyes were sharp as he looked Shinichi up and down. "I've seen you on the news before. At least you honor the name Heisei Holmes."

Shinichi flushed, just slightly. He'd developed a bit of a crush on Hakuba the second time they met, during Heiji's stupid Detective Koushien. Which was awkward when the other person didn't know you at all. His eyes wandered over Hakuba and the blonde's costume. Very... nice. It looked good on him. Oh no. Shinichi's crush dressed up as his favorite fictional character. Bad combination.

"I've been hoping we'd meet some time," Hakuba smiled, then looked around. "Are you... alone?"

"Yes. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't convince anyone," Shinichi sighed. "What about you?"

"One friend wanted to, but... her father got sick and she takes care of him," Hakuba was still smiling, softly now. "She is a very kind person, I know she'd have come if she could."

"Ah," now Shinichi had to smile himself. "I have a friend like that too. She takes care of everyone, including her own dad. Always tries to be there for everyone. Friends like that are... invaluable."

Hakuba hummed his agreement, letting his eyes wander a bit. "Would you... mind the company?"

Shinichi looked surprised for just a moment, before he grinned. "Not at all. I gather, this may be more fun with someone who knows to appreciate Sherlock Holmes too."

"Indeed," Hakuba looked pleased by that. "Say, what is your favorite book?"

The convention was fun. But being with Hakuba had been even more fun. They'd talked for hours, even as the convention ended, the two sat at a café, talking about the books and movie adaptations. The sun set and even the café staff threw them out.

"I had a lot of fun talking to you, Kudou-san," Hakuba smiled politely.

"I would like to... do it again? Not a convention. But meet? Talk? Have a coffee or something?"

Hakuba looked surprised but pleased and he understood what Shinichi was asking. "I'd like that."
