THWA: I think it's quite a bit of a stretch to expect Jack to put that together.
TW: Probably.
The past viewers were tense as the next recording began, wondering how the Ganger Doctor would affect things.
Amy, Cleaves, Buzzer, Dicken and Jimmy watch in astonished horror as the Ganger Doctor screams, his Flesh turning into skin. The Doctor asks his doppelganger what's wrong but the Ganger Doctor appears to ramble, saying sentences that don't appear to make sense. The Doctor realizes his Ganger is trying to cope with memories of past regenerations. The Ganger Doctor twitches and looks up. "Would you like a jelly baby?" he asks in a different voice.
"What?" Mickey asked as the past viewers looked at the screen in bewilderment.
"The Ganger isn't just remembering past Regenerations, he's reliving them," Donna realized.
"Over nine hundred years and ten different incarnations, I'm not sure anyone would be able to handle it all at once," Jack said as they eyed the screen wearily, wondering what was going to happen next.
The Ganger Doctor begins shouting why repeatedly before beginning to ramble, this time speaking in the voice of his tenth form. The Doctor grabs him and Amy tries to follow but Jimmy pulls her back. The Doctor encourages his Ganger to hold on, telling him he will stabilize. The Ganger continues to ramble as The Doctor encourages him to hold on. The Ganger Doctor shoves The Doctor before he cries out in agony, his skin turning back to Flesh.
"Blimey," Mickey muttered as they all looked at the screen uncomfortably.
"I guess we know why using the Flesh was banned after this," Martha muttered.
"The process of Gangers was meant for humans, not Time Lords. This is something no one could have predicted," Jack said grimly, wondering if the Ganger Doctor had anything to do with why half the crew died.
The Ganger Doctor holds his face as the Gangers begin banging on the door. Amy and the others look towards the door, continuing to barricade it when the banging suddenly stops. Buzzer says he liked it better when they were being noisy and Amy agrees. Outside the chapel, the Gangers turn around and walk away.
"Why would they just turn around?" Wilf wondered.
"Because they figured out they couldn't force it open, they're going to find another way," Mickey immediately realized, his many battles against the Cybermen coming back to him. "You try a tactic that's not working, it'll get you killed."
"So now they're going to think smarter. Brilliant," Donna said sarcastically as the past viewers uneasily wondered what the Gangers' next move would be.
Amy runs over to the Doctor, saying they don't have time for this. The Ganger Doctor, his flesh turned back into skin, looks up and greets Amy and The Doctor happily. "Cybermats," The Doctor says. The Ganger Doctor asks if they have time for this and The Doctor says they make time, as he'd like more proof the Ganger is him. The Doctor repeats Cybermats and his Ganger explains what they are as Amy runs back towards the others. Amy asks if they have any weapons such as guns. Buzzer says those would come in handy as Jimmy points out they're a factory. Suddenly, steam begins rising from the door. They all step away from it as Amy realizes the Gangers are using acid to eat through the door.
"Bloody Hell," Mickey breathed.
"Well, the Gangers aren't stupid, I'll give them that," Jack said darkly.
"They know the factory as well as the humans they're cloned from, along with the acid. There's no tactical advantage either side will be able to think of that the other won't think of as well," Martha noted.
"So it comes down to who thinks of it first then," Donna mused.
As the banging continues, the others prepare for the Gangers. Watching this, The Ganger Doctor notes Amy and Rory won't trust both him and the original. The Doctor asks if he's thinking what he's thinking and the Ganger says inevitably. The two laugh, the two beginning to finish each other's sentences.
"Oh great, there's two of them now," Mickey said sarcastically.
"Well, at least this means The Doctor's Ganger won't be a threat," Wilf said optimistically.
"For now. But the night is young Wilf," Jack said as he narrowed his eyes, not yet trusting the Ganger.
The two Doctors agree to save both the humans and Gangers. The two begin laughing when Amy calls The Doctor over. They joke with each other glibly before walking over, greeting Amy in unison as she watches wearily. Finishing each other's sentences, the two Doctors agree they have to establish a protocol, otherwise things will get confusing. Amy sarcastically congratulates them on solving the problem of confusing, which the two Doctor note she's very good at before telling Amy to breathe in unison.
A dark look crossed Jack's face as the other past viewers looked confused once more. Jane grimaced, knowing it was getting close.
"Just wait for it," Jane said lowly, already anticipating their questions. "I'll make sense by the end of this one. I promise."
"Really hope so," Donna muttered, wondering what they were missing.
Amy is confused as The Doctor tells her they have to get Amy and the Gangers outside. Cleaves snaps the Gangers are trying to kill them but The Doctor argues they're scared. Amy argues they're trapped but The Doctor disagrees, as the Flesh Bowl is filled by a cabling from above. The Doctor notes the pipes must go down something like a tunnel or shaft and walks over to wall. Pulling off a siding, he reveals a vent. "You know, I'm starting to get a sense of just how impressive it is to hang out with me," the Ganger Doctor says.
"Now's not the time to fanboy over yourself Boss…'s Ganger. Blimey, this is confusing," Mickey muttered.
"You're telling me. I miss the Meta Crisis Doctor. At least we could them apart," Donna grumbled.
The Ganger Doctor then asks The Doctor if he intends to say Yowza and The Doctor says they've said it enough and to let it go. Shortly after, the Gangers bust the door in, running inside the chapel to find it empty. Hearing the sound of The Doctor's screwdriver, Ganger Cleaves follows it to the vent as The Doctor seals it. The Doctor heads down the vent as Ganger Cleaves snarls at Cleaves before she follows The Doctor. Elsewhere, Jennifer touches a gooey spot on a wall, mumbling to herself. She bangs a light against her forehead before she hears something. Walking down the corridor to investigate, she doesn't notice she's walked right passed Rory. He pokes his head out around the corner before following her.
"Well, Rory's found Jennifer then," Martha noted.
"But which Jennifer did he find?" Jack mused as they all watched the screen tense.
"Be careful Rory," Donna muttered worriedly.
The Doctor leads his Ganger and the humans outside as Buzzer points out the army will send a recon team out soon. Cleaves argues they need to find a way to contact the mainland and Amy asks what to do about Rory and Jennifer. The Doctor argues this place is a maze and they'll never find them. The Doctor asks if they have a computer map and Cleaves says if they can get the power running, they can scan for Rory and Jennifer.
"If they can get the power running. Very big if," Mickey noted wearily.
"You just had to ignore The Doctor, didn't you Cleaves?" Martha grumbled.
"And start a war," Donna said darkly.
"Doesn't matter who fired the first shot, only thing that matters now is trying to get everyone out alive," Jack said grimly. "Good luck old friend."
The group then begins coughing, Amy noting The Doctor told her to breathe earlier. The Doctor says it's very important and Amy says she struggling to as they all cough violently. The Doctor realizes the acid is interacting with the stone, creating asphyxia miasma, calling it chokey gas when Cleaves doesn't understand.
"So now the very air is attacking them. Is there anything that won't try to attack them?" Donna asked in exasperation.
"Knowing The Doctor's luck?" Jack asked dryly. "I wouldn't bet on it."
The Doctor says they need to get above it and Cleaves directs them towards the Evac Tower. In the chapel, Ganger Cleaves complains about a headache. Ganger Jimmy argues they could be answer but Ganger Cleaves calmly points out with the gas, the humans will have to head to the Evac Tower. Ganger Jimmy argues they should go stop the humans but Ganger Cleaves notes it's a narrow doorway, easily defendable. She laughs before groaning at her headache.
"Now they know where they are," Martha noted uneasily.
"It's a long walk to the Evac Tower. Even with those acid suits, it won't be easy," Jack noted. "They're as safe as they can be given the situation."
"Not saying much Jack," Mickey sighed.
The Doctor leads the group into the Evac Tower and out of the gas. Amy complains of a pulled muscle and The Doctor checks her over but she assures him she's fine. As they begin trying to start up the power, they hear the ringing of a clock tower. Jimmy notes its midnight, which means his son Adam has just turned five. In the chapel, Ganger Jimmy wishes Adam a happy birthday. He fondly notes Adam will be so excited he'll be out of bed at the crack of dawn. Ganger Cleaves smiles as Ganger Jimmy fondly remembers a dance Adam does.
"There's no greater joy than seeing your child on their birthday," Wilf noted happily, fondly remembering celebrating many birthday's with Sylvia.
Jack silently agreed with Wilf, remembering many birthdays with Alice, although his memories were more bittersweet than Wilf's, as Alice's birthdays had been far less joyful as she'd grown up, realizing who and what Jack was.
The door opens and Ganger Jennifer walks in. She says the eyes are the last thing to go. The other Gangers are confused and she clarifies the eyes are the last to melt when they're destroyed. And in the eyes ask one question. "Why? Why should we suffer for the sake of human beings?" Ganger Jennifer asks.
"She's right. I don't agree with what she's doing now, but what Cleaves is doing isn't much better," Martha noted.
"Sometimes there are no good guy's in these kinds of situations. Sometimes there's just the side you find yourself on. It sucks, but it's the way of the universe," Jane said with a sigh.
"We don't have to like it though," Donna grumbled.
"Never said you did. I don't like it either, neither does Dad," Jane said sadly.
"No one does," Jack said grimly as the mood plummeted, hating this entire situation.
Ganger Dickens notes there are millions of Gangers in India. Ganger Jennifer proposes reaching out, inspiring them to rise up. Ganger Cleaves disagrees with revolution, merely wanting to live in peace. Ganger Jennifer points out they'll melt her, accusing Ganger Cleaves of becoming so human she's forgotten all the times she was decommissioned. Ganger Cleaves says she doesn't remember but Ganger Jennifer says she does. "It's us or them," she declares. Gangers Jimmy and Dickens agree, walking over and taking Ganger Jennifer's hands. Ganger Cleaves gets to her feet as Ganger Jennifer says she has a plan that will destroy the humans.
"The roles have flipped in the Gangers," Wilf noted.
"Unlike with Cleaves, it's her Ganger that wants peace while Jennifer's wants to go to war," Martha said in surprise.
"I guess they're not exact copies of the originals after all," Donna noted.
"And since her Ganger is there, that means Jennifer…" Mickey trailed.
"We don't know that for sure. And if there's one thing I learned traveling with The Doctor, don't assume anything until you have a body," Jack said firmly.
In the Evac Tower, Cleaves asks if the two Doctors can get the power back. They says they can as long as there's some power still sticking around. Amy requests they stop finishing each other's sentences but one finishes her sentence, knowing what she was going to say. "No probs," the other Doctor promises. Amy remembers The Doctor saying the TARDIS was stuck in acid and asks if it'll be damaged. One of the Doctors assures her the TARDIS is tough, old and sexy and the other Doctor adds she's also dependable. Amy wonders how both Doctors can be real and one says because they can, both declaring they're The Doctor as they retain all 900 years of memories and both wear a bowtie, agreeing that bowties are cool.
"Okay, I admit it, The Ganger isn't a threat. No one can fake that," Jack caved before smirking. "I can't say what I'm thinking right now."
"Oh trust me Jack, we all know what you're thinking," Martha grumbled as Mickey, Wilf and Donna shot him uncomfortable looks.
"Get used to it, he never changes," Jane said with a sigh.
Amy asks how the Flesh read The Doctor and he notes it must have been after he examined it, creating a new Doctor. Amy argues that one of them was here first and The Doctor says after the Flesh scanned him, he had an accident that made him get new shoes. Amy turns to the Ganger Doctor, who asks if she's satisfied, calling her Pond. She tells him not to call her this and both Doctors stare at her. She asks what's wrong and the Ganger Doctor notes she feels more affection for the original than for him. Amy argues he's merely The Doctor while he is not, claiming to have no problem with the Ganger Doctor. She calls him almost The Doctor, which is 'pretty damn impressive'. The Ganger Doctor takes offense at this, saying being almost The Doctor is as bad as not being him at all. She tells him not to overreach as he says she might as well call him John Smith.
"Oh he's definitely The Doctor, he throws temper tantrums just like him," Martha said as they all watched in amusement.
"John Smith. Been a while since he's called himself that," Mickey mused, feeling a bit nostalgic.
"Brings back memories," Donna agreed.
The Doctor gets the power back on and the humans rush over. Amy orders Cleaves to find Rory and she performs a scan but is unable to locate Rory. Amy frantically stares at the screen, hoping to find Rory. In the monitoring station, the Gangers enter, Ganger Cleaves pointing out she knows her own mind. Ganger Cleaves predicts that Cleaves will try to call the mainland next as, at the Evac Tower, Cleaves is shown trying to do just that.
"It's like a bloody chess match, but you're playing against yourself," Donna muttered.
Jane disguised her laugh as a cough, silently wondering how Donna would react to the Cyber Planner.
Ganger Cleaves says they should intercept as Cleaves notes they'll never get a signal through the storm. She tries once again and gets a response, saying they read them. Cleaves says they need immediate evacuation, explaining about the Gangers. She requests they get them off the island and wipe out the Gangers. The Doctors exchange uneasy glances at this.
"While not a very moral decision, it's a sound one tactically," Jack noted, begrudging respect in his voice.
"But where does that leave The Doctor's Ganger?" Donna asked uneasily.
"Cleaves doesn't seem like she'll care than he's helping them," Wilf said, as uneasy as his granddaughter.
"Xenophobia doesn't allow for exceptions, same for any kind of bigotry," Jack pointed out grimly, hoping this new development wouldn't turn The Ganger Doctor against the humans.
The Ganger Doctor moves away as Cleaves tells the person on the end to airlift them off the roof of the Evac Tower. She tells the captain any further transmissions must be answered with a transmission she sends him by typing it. Ganger Cleaves jokes about how smart she is as the captain receives it, promising to decommission the Flesh. Ganger Cleaves then declares that Jennifer is right.
"And there goes any hesitation Cleaves's Ganger had," Mickey muttered.
"When we're threatened, our base response is to defend ourselves, human or otherwise. Like Jane said, it's the way of the universe," Jack said wisely. "Sometimes war is unavoidable, no matter how hard you try."
"Sometimes the hate just runs too deep," Jane said softly, thinking of The Silence.
Who appears to be Jennifer enters the chamber with the harnesses. She places her hand on the palm print scanner but an automated voice says the scan was rejected. Jennifer tries again, wondering why she isn't being recognized.
"Because it knows you're a Ganger. Although what her play is, I don't know," Jack mused and Jane grimaced.
"Wait for it," Jane said grimly and everyone felt a chill go up their spines.
"That bad, yeah?" Martha asked and Jane nodded. "Bloody Hell."
At the Evac Tower, Buzzer says they need to get out. Amy argues they aren't leaving without Rory and Jennifer and he callously says it can't be helped. Seeing The Doctor doing something, Amy asks what and he says he's making a phone call. Amy is confused as The Doctor declares he will always be the optimist. The Doctor spins her chair around and Amy laughs. As The Doctor gets back to work, Amy looks at The Ganger Doctor and says there can be only one.
"Oi!" Donna snapped, annoyed. "No need to be a git about it!"
"Amy can't really accept that they can be the same person, and the Ganger revolt isn't helping. Her actions aren't really the best, but it's also hard to blame her, given the situation they're in," Jane noted.
"I'm more worried the Ganger might turn against them if she keeps this up," Jack noted wearily and Jane scoffed.
"Really? You think any version of Dad would turn on humans based on a few immature comments?" Jane asked incredulously and Jack paused.
"When you put it like that, it seems stupid," Jack admitted sheepishly.
The Doctor is confused but Amy dismisses it, telling him to keep being amazing. Hearing a strange nose, Amy gets to her feet, looking around for the source. Walking over to a wall, Amy gasps as a small opening moves aside and the woman with the eye patch looks in on her again. Amy looks at The Doctor to see if he's noticed it. He hasn't. When Amy looks back, the woman and opening are gone.
"That woman again," Martha muttered.
Jane grimaced as a dark look crossed Jack's face once more. Jane glanced at Jack and he saw the look on her face, nodding. He wouldn't say anything. Considering how often The Doctor was telling Amy to breath, it was probably a moot point. It was almost time.
Seeing Amy is distressed, The Doctor asks what happened. Amy walks over to him, saying it's her again. The Doctor asks what she's talking about and Amy explains about the woman in the eye patch. A grim look crosses The Doctor's face and he tells her it's nothing. Amy argues it doesn't seem like nothing but he tells her its Time Memory, like a mirage.
"Doesn't seem like a mirage," Martha muttered.
"Rule one, The Doctor lies," Jane said with a sigh.
"He knows what's happening to Amy, doesn't he?" Donna realized and Jane nodded.
"But he can't say anything until he can stop it. I know, it's frustrating but it'll make sense soon," Jane promised.
"I hope so," Mickey muttered as the past viewers turned back to the screen, all but Jack wondering what was happening to Amy.
The Doctor turns back to work when The Ganger Doctor says it's his head. They turn to him as he walks out of the room, shaking his head. The others call out to him and Amy says to leave him to her, following him out.
"Well that was weird," Mickey mentioned as they all watched in confusion, wondering what was happening.
Amy finds The Ganger Doctor standing alone, seemingly bothered by something. She apologizes for her earlier comments, explaining she's merely been through a lot with The Doctor. She alludes to seeing a moment of The Doctor's death before asking if The Ganger Doctor can die.
"Is that possible? Could it have been a Ganger?" Donna wondered.
"No," Jack said and they looked over at him. "Ganger's don't last long after they die. And the body would have reverted to its base form once Rory set it on fire."
"So it wasn't a Ganger then," Martha noted sadly as the past viewers deflated, having let themselves hope for a moment.
"No, I'm sorry," Jane apologized. "But like I said, he does live through it. It's complicated."
"That's a bloody understatement," Donna grumbled, annoyed with how complicated it was.
Amy realizes it might have been The Ganger Doctor she saw die. The Ganger Doctor asks why and Amy says he invited them to see his death. Suddenly, The Ganger Doctor grabs Amy and slams her against the wall, repeating why. Afraid, Amy says he's hurting her as The Ganger Doctor rants about the eyes screaming why and how he can feel them. He rants about the Gangers before seeming to come back to himself. He loosens his grip and Amy run away in fear.
"What the bloody Hell was that?" Mickey exclaimed as the past viewers looked at the screen startled.
"It seems like something was affecting him," Donna said as she looked at the screen oddly. "But what could affect him like that?"
"I'm not sure. But whatever it was, it can't be good if it can affect the Ganger like that," Jack mused.
Back in the control room, The Doctor wonders why when Amy comes back in, demanding he keep The Ganger Doctor away from her. The Ganger Doctor then comes in, asking if The Doctor sensed it. The Doctor says briefly, although not as strong as the Ganger. The Ganger apologizes to Amy but she coldly says to keep away from, as they can't trust him. The Ganger Doctor says he can connect to the Flesh and is beginning to understand what it needs; with Amy pointing it's what he needs, as he is Flesh. The Ganger Doctor asks Cleaves if the Flesh can grow and she notes its cells can divide. He walks closer to her and whispers that it wants to do that at will, revealing the Flesh wants revenge, as it's angry.
"The Flesh can connect to the Ganger even after they've split from it?" Wilf asked surprised.
"It makes sense, they come from it, although I'm not sure why only The Doctor's Ganger seems affected," Martha mused.
Jane smiled tightly. Because it hadn't been a Ganger. To affect her father like that, establish a psychic link with him, the Flesh really was powerful, and dangerous.
Amy coldly says he's not The Doctor and can't ever be, calling him a copy. Cleaves tells The Ganger Doctor to go to the other side of the room from now on. The Doctor protests, insisting he and The Ganger Doctor are the same but Cleaves agrees they can't trust him. Cleaves calls for Buzzer and he pulls out a barrel. The Doctor calls this absurd but The Ganger Doctor doesn't protest and walks over to it, calmly sitting down. He asks if it's really what they want and Amy crosses her arms, staring at him coldly.
"Well, there goes any trust Amy had in the Ganger," Jack noted.
"In her defense, I'd be pretty freaked by that myself," Martha pointed out with a shrug.
"I think anyone would be," Donna said with a shutter as she imagined herself in Amy's position while traveling with The Doctor.
"Really hard to blame her after that," Mickey agreed.
Rory is walking the corridors, looking for Jennifer. Hearing her calling for help, Rory follows the sound of her voice into the washroom. He sees who appears to be Jennifer before another Jennifer walks into view. Both Jennifers try to convince him that they're the real one as Rory looks back and forth, unsure.
"Oh not one of those situations," Donna groaned.
"On the bright side, at least this means Jennifer isn't dead yet," Martha noted, not seeing Jane's grimace.
"For now," Jack muttered, sure that both Jennifer's wouldn't be coming out of this alive.
At the Evac Tower, the captain phones the humans, telling them they can't get low enough, as the Gamma static might fry their nav controls. The Doctor toys with his screwdriver as Amy says in frustration she can't find Rory. She says she's going to go look for him when The Doctor reveals the screwdriver could track Rory, as humans and Gangers give off slightly different signals. Amy says if the screwdriver can tell the difference, than The Ganger Doctor isn't actually The Doctor. The Doctor disagrees but Amy says she can tell. The Doctor accuses her of being prejudiced but Amy says they've been through too much together and it's the end of the discussion.
"Me thinks one protests too much," Donna said dryly.
"And would you be acting any differently in Amy's shoes?" Jane asked, not judgmentally but curiously.
"Probably not, but I've been cloned before and so have an aversion to these kind of things," Martha noted as Donna paused, considering.
"Okay, fair," Donna admitted, knowing with what Amy was going through in these recordings, Donna herself would probably not act that differently.
"Amy's actions towards the Ganger aren't the best, but they're understandable," Jack noted. "She's acting like any human would in this situation."
In the washroom, Rory demands the two Jennifers tell him the truth, as he and The Doctor want both humans and Gangers to live. One of the Jennifers limps forward, saying it's a lovely idea but the Gangers want to kill them now. Rory notes she's limping while the other Jennifer is not. The other Jennifer argues she could be faking and Rory demands the first Jennifer show him her leg. She pulls up part of her pants, revealing a burn which she claims she got from the harness. The other Jennifer argues she's lying but Rory points out you can't fake a burn. Seeing she's losing Rory, the other Jennifer rushes her duplicate. The two Jennifers wrestle, one pinning the other to the wall. She begins choking her as Rory pleads with them, saying fighting is pointless.
"He's right, but not everyone is willing to put aside such hatred," Jack said, knowing from experience as he remembered the days, weeks he had been tortured by the people who found out his secret.
"Human or not, hatred and stupidity seem to be something everyone is prone to from time to time," Jane agreed.
The other Jennifer pushes back and they begin shoving each other as Rory pleads with them to stop it. One Jennifer pushes the other back and the Jennifer who was pushed ends up tripping and falling. Rory tries to catch her but is too late to stop her from falling into a puddle of acid. The other Jennifer says she didn't have a choice, as she attacked her as she and Rory watch the Jennifer dissolve into Flesh. Jennifer tells Rory they're in this together and have to trust each other. Rory agrees, telling her to come on. Rory grabs his light and they leaves, Rory looking back at the dissolving Jennifer sadly.
"Well, I guess that means we don't have to worry about the Ganger Jennifer anymore," Martha said, a little relived about that.
"Maybe," Jack muttered, not able to shake the feeling that something was off about this.
"Now that just leaves three other Gangers who want to go to war. And Cleaves," Mickey pointed. "They're not out of the woods yet."
In the Evac Tower, they get a visual of the factory and see Rory and Jennifer walking down the corridor. Cleaves realizes they're heading for the thermostatic room and Amy says they should go get them. The Doctor tosses his screwdriver to his Ganger and Amy protests as Cleaves asks if The Doctor is crazy. "Am I crazy Doctor?" The Doctor asks his doppelganger. "Well, you did once plug your brain into the core of an entire planet just to hold its orbit and win a bet," The Ganger Doctor points out.
"He did what?" Wilf started in disbelief.
"I'm not even surprised," Donna said in exasperation.
"It's exactly the kind of thing he'd do," Jack said with a grin.
Amy argues he can't go, saying she will but The Doctor says he wants The Ganger Doctor to go, getting to his feet and saying he's adamant about that. The Ganger Doctor gets up and Buzzer offers to accompany him. The Ganger Doctor thanks Buzzer and promises Amy he'll find Rory. The Ganger Doctor and Buzzer head out as The Doctor tells Amy he can't tell her why, but he needs her to trust the Ganger. He asks if she can do that and Amy asks if he's wrong.
"She's got a point. Even if The Ganger isn't a threat, The Flesh is able to influence it somehow. He might not be in control of his actions all the time," Martha noted uneasily.
"It's a risk you have to take sometimes, a leap of faith. You don't always know where you'll end up, but you have to take that risk," Jane pointed out as she fought a smile, looking forward to their reactions when they found out the truth.
"Some call it stupid, and it might be. But The Doctor has faith in people. I wish I could have the same faith as he does, but I've seen and done too much," Jack said a bit enviously.
Jennifer leads Rory to the thermostatic chamber, explaining they can stir the oxygen supply from there. Rory, coughing from the gas, has no idea what she said and Jennifer explains they'll choke to death if they can't clear the air. She tells him to keep watch for the Gangers before heading inside. Rory coughs before Jennifer calls for him. He heads inside and she explains the wheel on the machine is too tough for her to turn. She flirts with the unsuspecting Rory, convincing him to place his hand on the palm scanner. It recognizes him as human before Rory turns the wheel, making a thermostatic override. They then head out. In the Evac Tower, Cleaves realizes the temperature is rising and Rory and Jennifer shut off the underground cooling vents.
"What the Bloody Hell?" Mickey exclaimed as the past viewers looked at the screen in shock.
"But why would Jennifer do that unless…" Donna trailed off as they realized the truth.
"She's the Ganger," Martha breathed.
"But what about the Jennifer that dissolved? She was a Ganger to," Wilf pointed out in confusion.
"The Ganger created another one of herself so she could kill it and get Rory to trust her," Jack said as he put it all together. "That's why the entire thing felt staged. It was all so she could get Rory to get access to the vents."
"Bloody Hell," Mickey muttered as they all stared at the screen uneasily.
"Hurry up Spaceman," Donna muttered, hoping The Doctor could figure out a way to get them all out alive.
The Doctor points out this will kill them and Cleaves adds a million gallons of acid is boiling under their feet. The Doctor asks how long until it blows when the island is rocked by an explosion.
"Not long I think," Wilf muttered as the past viewers became worried.
Jimmy says they need to get out of there and Cleaves calls the shuttle for evacuation. She grunts suddenly, holding her head. The Doctor and Jimmy help her sit down and she says she's fine. In the monitoring station, Dicken's Ganger notes Ganger Cleaves doesn't look good and she says she's fine. She says she remembers medics doing tests as Cleaves tells The Doctor she's waiting for results. The Doctor notes she has a very deep clot.
"So both Cleaves and her Gangers have a clot in their head," Martha muttered.
"Could it be why Cleaves is so, well, unreasonable?" Donna wondered.
"It's possible; it might affect Cleaves's ability to think clearly. But not to the extent that we've seen," Martha explained.
Cleaves asks how he can know that before pausing, asking if its inoperable. The Doctor says it is on earth and she says that's all that's offering when she realizes what The Doctor is saying. He gives her a pointed look and she notes neither of them are what they appear. The Evac Tower is then rocked by another explosion and The Doctor says they can't stay here. Cleaves calls out to the shuttle again. They ask for the code word but the explosion has rocked some wirings lose and the controls spark. They all jumps back as The Doctor realizes it's dead. Cleaves tries to get it back online but The Doctor drags her away, telling her they need to get out of there.
"Jennifer's Ganger has made it impossible for them to get out," Jack noted as the past viewers paled.
"If I know The Doctor, he'll come up with another way," Donna said certainly, although a voice in the back of her head asked if she was trying to convince them or herself.
"I hope so. Otherwise its game over," Mickey muttered.
In the Monitoring station, the Gangers have been listening and Ganger Cleaves wants to reroute the shuttle courtyard. Ganger Jimmy argues she can't guess the code word but she says she can, as she created it. Ganger Cleaves contacts the shuttle, claiming to be Cleaves. The captain asks what the request is and she orders him to pick them up in the courtyard. The captain asks for the code word and she gives it as bad boy. After a beat, the captain accepts it, to the relief of Gangers Jimmy and Dicken.
"She knows exactly what Cleaves will do before she does it," Martha said in a mix of being impressed and horrified.
"And now they've hijacked the transport. The Gangers seem to be one step ahead of them," Jack said grimly.
"For now. But they have two Doctors on their side. Which might give them an advantage," Martha argued.
"Maybe, maybe not," Jack muttered, remembering that half the crew died in this incident.
Ganger Cleaves also calls off the hunt for the Gangers, claiming they've all been incinerated. She cuts the call and Ganger Jimmy compliments her on the call. She notes it wasn't luck, they're the same person. Jennifer leads Rory down to a room, claiming it's sealed but the power surge unlocked it. Rory is horrified by what he sees: the recording shows a pile of dead Gangers, which Jennifer calls Flesh that had been discarded for being faulty.
"Blimey," Mickey muttered as the past viewers stared horrified, even Jack.
"They were just tossed aside, not even put back into Flesh?" Wilf asked in horror.
"Oi," Donna muttered, looking like she was going to be sick.
"Cleaves saw them as tools. You don't mercy kill tools," Martha said in disgust.
Jack was silent as he stared at the screen stonily. He'd seen a lot of the cruelty of humans, been subjected to a fair bit of it himself. But even this was beyond what he'd thought humans were capable of.
Jane grimaced. Humans were capable of being the greatest species in the universe, but they were also capable of being the worst. This unfortunately was just a glimpse into the dark side of humanity.
Rory walks over to one, which Jennifer notes is one of her old Gangers. It opens its eyes and Rory steps back in fear. Jennifer notes they're all fully conscious, asking what kind of Hell that is. Horrified, Rory asks how Cleaves could do this. "Who are the real monsters?" Jennifer asks. Rory says they have to do something, telling Jennifer they have to let people know what's going on here. Jennifer claims to have an idea, saying they trust each other and asking him to trust her now. Rory nods.
"That's her plan," Jack said as he realized what Jennifer's Ganger was doing. "Get Rory to lead the humans somewhere, and then kill them all."
"And Rory fell for it," Mickey realized.
"She knew he had a good heart and knew just which buttons to press to make him do what she wanted," Jane mused. "The most dangerous enemies are the ones who only have to use words to get you to do what they want."
The Ganger Doctor and Buzzer are walking the grounds, The Ganger Doctor using his screwdriver to track Rory and Jennifer. Noticing the signal is fading, The Ganger Doctor quickly rushes forward and they find Jennifer's lifeless body. He checks her vital signs but The Ganger Doctor sadly says she's dead, her heart having just stopped.
"She never made it out of her encounter with her Ganger alive," Wilf said sadly as a moment of silence descended on the room.
"One member of the crew down. Still two more to go even if they do get out of this alive," Jack muttered wearily.
The Doctor apologizes to Jennifer before placing a hand on her skin, realizing she's been there for hours. Buzzer realizes that she can't have been with Rory and The Ganger Doctor realizes Rory is in trouble. Buzzer suddenly strikes him in the back of the head with his light. Buzzer apologizes but says its Cleaves orders. "Us and them, innit?" Buzzer says before leaving the unconscious Ganger Doctor behind.
"OI! He was trying to help you!" Donna snapped angrily.
"Xenophobia doesn't allow for exceptions," Jane repeated what she'd said earlier sadly.
"Buzzer also doesn't seem that bright, so he's more of a follower than anything else," Jack noted.
"Blind loyalty is no better than hate," Martha said firmly.
"I'm not disagreeing. What they're doing is wrong, but it's already happened. Nothing we can do to change it," Jack said as he watched the screen carefully. "Doesn't mean we have to like it."
The Doctor leads the humans into the room Jennifer was in earlier. The spots had now all sprouted eyes. Amy asks why the eyes are here The Doctor says to accuse, looking at the humans pointedly before moving down the corridor. Cleaves tells them to ignore the eyes, as it's not far. They follow after The Doctor.
"That is bloody creepy," Donna muttered as the past viewers all looked uncomfortable at this.
"The Flesh is sending a message," Jack noted. "It wants the humans to answer for their sins."
"When a sentient being gets tired of being abused, it fights back," Jane agreed.
"Which always leads to death," Wilf said quietly.
Elsewhere, Buzzer feels the ground tremble from an explosion. He grumbles he should have been a postman before he hears Jennifer's voice. He follows the voice down the steps and finds the Ganger Jennifer talking to the discarded Gangers. He angrily accuses her of killing Jennifer and she stands up, saying she's stronger. She walks over to Buzzer, saying can grow. Buzzer watches it horror as her mouth extends. She rushes towards him and Buzzer screams.
The past viewers all winced, knowing the Gangers had just claimed their second victim.
"Buzzer," Donna said sadly.
He may have been hateful, but no one deserved to die like that.
"She's mutating into something else, something beyond a Ganger," Jack noted. "Whatever happened, it's affecting her more than the others."
"Which is probably why using Gangers was outlawed. They didn't want something like that happening again," Martha realized and Jack nodded his agreement.
The Doctor and humans enter the thermostatic chamber. The Doctor and Cleaves try to put things back to how they were but The Doctor realizes it's a chemical reaction now. He announces the whole place will blow and Cleaves asks how long they have. "An hour? Five seconds? Somewhere in between," he says. An alarm suddenly blares and gas begins leaking from the machine. "OUT!" The Doctor orders. They all flee the room as it begins sparking. Running down the corridor, they run into Rory. Amy happily embraces him and Rory claims Jennifer found a tunnel under the crypt. Cleaves says suspiciously that it's not on the schematics.
"Oh tell me he's not about to do what I think he is," Donna said as she realized Rory was about to do something very stupid.
"Sometimes Rory lets his heart think for his head. And it can get him into trouble, especially in situations like this," Jane said and Donna groaned.
Rory says it leads out of the monastery and possibly under the TARDIS. Rory leads them away, The Doctor watching for a moment before following the others. Elsewhere, The Ganger Doctor comes to to find the Gangers standing over him. The Doctor says he has a bit of a sore head as Ganger Cleaves says this is how they'll always be treated. She notes he's one of them and The Ganger Doctor says to call him John Smith.
"And on top of that, The Doctor's Ganger switched sides," Martha noted uneasily.
"Well, really can't blame him," Mickey muttered, knowing he probably wouldn't want to help the people who tried to kill him.
"Oh he may just surprise you yet," Jane said as she smiled, absolutely looking forward to their reactions to her father's con.
Rory leads the humans and The Doctor into the room with the vat. Jimmy says they can't leave without Buzzer and Cleaves offers to go back for him. Rory admits he hasn't been honest with them when Jennifer steps up beside him, closing the door and locking The Doctor and humans inside.
"Oh Rory, you dumbo," Donna groaned as she placed a hand to her face.
"The one most like The Doctor indeed," Jack noted, remembering many moments where The Doctor himself had done stupid things in the name of doing the right thing.
"Let's just hope it doesn't get everyone killed," Martha muttered as they watched uneasily.
Rory protests they don't need to lock them up, merely show them the truth. Jennifer disagrees as The Doctor shouts at Rory. Amy asks what he's playing at and Rory tells them about what they've been doing to the old Flesh. The Doctor tells him the factory is about to explode and Rory tells Jennifer to let them out, now unsure. "The little girl got strong," Jennifer says. Rory is confused and Jennifer reminds him of the story she told him earlier, telling him the little girl got strong. Rory confused says the other Jennifer told him that story. "Oh? What other Jennifer," she smirks as her eyes turn pure grey. Rory realizes the truth and moves to open the door. He apologizes to Amy as Jennifer pulls him back.
"You got played. Happens to the best of us," Mickey told Rory.
"Yeah, but we don't usually get played into helping get half a dozen people killed," Martha noted and Mickey winced.
"Come on Spaceman, you can figure a way out of this," Donna muttered as they watched tense. "There has to be some kind of weakness there."
"I really hope so," Jack muttered, remembering the report again.
Amy beats on the glass, worried for Rory. She runs from the door as Cleaves runs towards it. Her Ganger walks by, staring at her and apologizes, saying they have to agree. Cleaves mocks her, telling her about the clot in her head and mockingly welcoming her to the human race. Ganger Cleaves walks away. Cleaves turns back to see The Doctor scanning the vat. He declares it's going to overheat and fill the room with acid. Cleaves asks if they can't stop it. "Just as a point of interest? No."
"There's nothing he can do to stop it," Martha realized in horror.
"Well he survived this somehow. So think dumbo! Think!" Donna shouted as they all worried for The Doctor and Amy.
In the dining hall, Rory angrily realizes Ganger Jennifer created another Ganger to trick him and the other Jennifer who died was also a Ganger. Rory is angry at the betrayal as Ganger Jennifer smirks. Rory realizes the real Jennifer is dead, demanding she tell him the truth. The Ganger Doctor says she's gone as the captain announces that they're approaching the courtyard. "The humans will be meted, as they deserve, and the factory will be destroyed. Once we get to the mainland, the real battle begins. The humans won't stand a chance. You're one of us Doctor. Join the revolution," Jennifer offers as she points to The Ganger Doctor. Rory moves to get the others out but The Ganger Doctor stops him. Rory stares at him in shock.
"Jennifer's Ganger's gone mad with power and The Doctor's Ganger has turned against the humans," Martha said with a sigh as Jack narrowed his eyes.
"I'm not sure. Why hasn't he done anything to hurt anyone? If he's on board with Jenifer's plan, he has no reason to hold onto The Doctor's principles," Jack pointed out and Jane smiled.
"Just wait for it," Jane told them.
In the room with the vat, the humans are lowering the seal onto the vat. Jimmy notes it's not much of a plan and The Doctor says he's all ears if he has a better one, offering to take Jimmy to a planet where everyone is all ears if they live through this. In the dining hall, Rory argues with The Ganger Doctor they can't let the humans die and The Ganger Doctor checks a bracelet around his wring. "Ring ring," he says.
"Huh?" Mickey asked as they looked at the screen in confusion.
"It'll make sense in just a minute, just watch," Jane promised, nearly giggling. "His plans always take a bit to make sense."
"So he hasn't turned on the humans then," Jack noted and she shook her head.
"Dad would never turn against the humans, it's not his nature," Jane promised as they watched intently, wondering what The Doctor was up to.
Rory shouts at The Ganger Doctor and moves to go passed him but The Doctor grabs him, repeating ring ring. In the room with the vat, Cleaves notes the acid is eating through the seal and the factory is rocked by a tremor.
"Whatever you're up to Boss, you need to hurry before they all get killed," Mickey muttered.
Rory moves to run passed them and The Ganger Doctor shouts at him to stay. Rory stops and the sound of a phone ringing is heard. The Ganger Doctor says happily for someone to get the phone. He tells Jimmy to do it before declaring he will get it. Everyone watches in confusion as The Ganger Doctor walks over to the phone and answers it. The holographic form of a young man appears as an automated voice thanks them for the prerecorded call. The Ganger Doctor happily greets Adam as Ganger Jimmy gets to his feet, staring at him in shock.
"Oh you are good old friend," Jack said, laughing as they realized The Doctor's plan.
"He knew he couldn't stop them killing each other by himself, so he decided to bring in the one thing that seemed to bring in common ground between the Gangers, Jimmy's love for his son," Martha realized.
"Nothing is more powerful than a parent's love for their child. And it might be the key to saving everyone's lives," Wilf said hopefully.
The Ganger Doctor introduces himself, explaining its complicated before saying it doesn't matter, as its Adam's birthday. The two begin to talk about what Adam has been up to as Ganger Jimmy smiles at the scene before The Ganger Doctor notes Adam wants to speak to his father. Adam agrees as The Ganger Doctor turns to Ganger Jimmy. The Ganger Doctor walks up to Ganger Jimmy, noting what the other Jimmy matters now, as they're the same person. Ganger Jimmy stares at Adam in shock as Adam calls to him. A tremor rocks the building and Adam asks what the noise is. Ganger Jimmy runs out of the dining hall and Ganger Jennifer angrily accuses The Ganger Doctor of tricking him into an act of weakness but he argues he's helped Ganger Jimmy into an act of humanity.
"Well done Spaceman," Donna said as she smiled.
"It's easy to get people fighting each other. But it's a lot harder to make people who want to kill each other want to save each other instead," Jack said, impressed that The Doctor had once more managed to do the impossible. "How do you do it Doctor?"
"It takes skill, and the ability to understand human nature, and a lot of faith," Jane mused, not sure how her father had done it for so long. "Dad has a gift for it."
"There will never be anyone quite like The Doctor," Wilf said and none of them disagreed.
Ganger Cleaves orders Ganger Dicken to drain the acid in crypt one. Ganger Jennifer snarls as Ganger Dicken moves to do so. Cleaves snaps she's had it, not seeing the point of the 'ridiculous war'. "Look at you, Jen. You were a sweet kid. Look at you now. The stuff of nightmares. I don't want my world populated by monsters," Ganger Cleaves says.
"She's so convinced the humans are going to kill them that she became even worse than what she thinks they are," Martha noted sadly.
"The ends justify the means. That kind of thinking usually just leads to more violence, more death. And you don't always recognize the person looking back at you when it's all over," Jack said grimly, having seen the cycle many times over his impossibly long life.
"Her own fear turned her into the monsters she despised," Donna said sadly and not another word was said on the subject, because what else could be said?
Ganger Jennifer coldly says she can't stop the factory from melting down and she'll take revenge on humanity with or without her. The Ganger Doctor says it can be about more than revenge, it can be better but Ganger Jennifer runs out of the room. As the humans are struggling to keep the vat sealed, Gangers Jimmy and Dicken run down the corridor. Ganger Jimmy moves to open the door as a burst of acid strikes Jimmy in the chest.
"Jimmy," Wilf exclaimed as the past viewers looked horrified.
"And that's half," Jack said with a heavy sigh. "Just like the report said."
"The innocent, the bigot and the father," Jane agreed sadly.
Jimmy cries out and stumbles back as his Ganger opens the door, ordering them to let him through. Ganger Jimmy runs down the stairs as The Doctor places Jimmy on the floor. The Ganger is by Jimmy's side as The Doctor sadly notes the acid has reaches his heart. Ganger Jimmy begs him to hang in there as he weakly jokes about being handsome from this angle. The Ganger apologizes, saying he is the fake and Adam deserves his real father. The Ganger says he'll do anything Jimmy wants. "The way things are mate, it's up to you now," Jimmy says. Jimmy pulls a necklace off his neck and hands it to Ganger Jimmy. "Be a Dad. You remember how," he says. They all watch sadly as Jimmy dies.
"Jimmy," Martha said sadly as they all watched no one unmoved by this.
"It doesn't seem fair. All he wanted to do was get home to his son," Donna said as a tear fell from her eye, thinking of her own father.
"These things are rarely fair Donna," Jack said lowly, once more thinking of Steven. "But at least now, the fighting has finally stopped. So maybe Jimmy didn't die for nothing."
"There's still Jennifer's Ganger, and she seems to be unraveling," Martha noted uneasily.
"But one homicidal Ganger is a lot better than four," Mickey pointed out and none of them could disagree.
Ganger Jimmy stares down at the necklace as The Doctor tells him he's a dad now. Back in the dining hall, Adam asks where his daddy is when Ganger Jimmy returns with The Doctor and the humans. Rory walks over to Amy and they embrace before Amy lightly slaps Rory across the chest. Ganger Jimmy approaches Adam, who greets him happily. Ganger Jimmy smiles, greeting him as sunshine. They talk, Adam saying he's opening all his presents. Ganger Jimmy tells Adam to have fun today and remember his Dad, who loves him very, very much. Adam asks when Jimmy is coming home and Ganger Jimmy doesn't know how to answer. The Doctor tells Adam he's coming home today and Adam is overjoyed. Adam dances and Ganger Jimmy laughs.
Everyone smiled slightly, the scene very sweet. But also bittersweet in the knowledge that Jimmy would never see it again, would never share another moment with his son. While the Ganger would be a good substitute, it was hard to live with that knowledge.
The Doctor turns around, declaring they need to move. Elsewhere, Ganger Jennifer hears the doors open. The others rush down the corridor when they hear Ganger Jennifer snarl, her neck extending as she steps into view. As she approaches, The Doctor tells them to run. She gets on all fours as they turn around and run back the way they came. As they run down the corridor, they hear the sound of the roof cracking and The Doctor notes it will give.
"What the bloody Hell is she?" Donna asked as the past viewers stared at the screen in horror and astonishment.
"Whatever she is now, she's not just a Ganger anymore. She's mutated into something else, some new kind of monster," Jack said, unnerved by this. "And this is why the Gangers were shut down. So something like this could never happen again."
The group runs into a chamber and closes the door behind them. Ganger Dicken says the door doesn't lock but Dicken says the one down the corridor does. He runs down the hall and tries to close the door but it's stuck. Hearing the snarls of Ganger Jennifer, Dicken frantically tries to move the door as she inches closer and closer. Breaking the lock, Dicken closes the door, with him trapped in the other side. They hear his screams as Ganger Jennifer gets to him.
"And Dicken to," Wilf said as they watched horrified.
"And now they're all trapped in that chamber with the Ganger outside. It's gonna take a bloody miracle to save them all now," Mickey groaned.
Grieved, Ganger Dicken closes the door and he, Ganger Cleaves and The Doctor rush towards, trying to hold it shut. A tremor rocks the building. "Here she comes," The Doctor says as he looks up. He steps back and the TARDIS bursts through the roof, landing a few feet away.
"Well, you ordered a miracle Mickey," Jane said amused and Mickey blinked.
"You always come through in the nick of time, don't you girl?" Donna asked as she looked around the TARDIS fondly.
There was no response, but what seemed to be a happy 'vwoorp' was heard.
The Ganger Doctor opens the TARDIS door and The Doctor and Amy hold the door shut as they hear Jennifer on the other side. The Doctor rushes the humans and Gangers towards the TARDIS. Cleaves doesn't want to leave but her Ganger tells her to go. Nodding in thanks, Cleaves rushes into the TARDIS with the others. Amy tells The Doctor now is their chance but he says he has to hold the door closed to give the TARDIS time to dematerialize. Amy tells him not to be crazy, demanding to know what happens to him then. The Doctor notes the monastery is about to explode but he can still stop Jennifer. Amy insists The Doctor and Cleaves can survive as The Ganger Doctor walks forward, asking if Amy thinks he should stay instead. Amy walks over, saying she doesn't, she merely doesn't want The Doctor to die and apologizes for misjudging The Ganger Doctor but says he's merely not The Doctor. The Ganger Doctor then reveals the swapped shoes. The Ganger Doctor says he is The Doctor while The Doctor reveals he is actually the Flesh.
"What?" Martha exclaimed as they all looked at the screen in disbelief.
"I told you you could trust him," Jane said with a grin.
"But how…why…what?" Donna rambled, not understanding.
"It'll make sense in a minute," Jane promised with a slight laugh.
Amy looks back and forth between them in shock as The Doctor explains they had to know if they were truly the same in order to learn everything they could about the Flesh which they could only do through Amy's eyes.
"That…makes sense, in a twisted sort of way," Mickey mused.
"It's something only he would think of. Spaceman, you're either insane or too clever for your own good," Donna muttered.
"The line between the two is a lot thinner than you'd imagine," Jane shrugged.
"But I guess it makes sense. The Doctor allowed the Flesh to scan him, which created a psychic link between the two," Jack mused.
"Doctor, you continue to surprise me," Wilf said with a smile.
Amy turns back to The Ganger Doctor and emotionally hugs him goodbye. Amy says she never thought it possible, confusing The Ganger Doctor. She clarifies he's twice the man she thought he was. "Push Amy, but only when she tells you to," The Ganger Doctor tells her, confusing her.
A dark look crossed Jack's face as the other passed viewers looked confused. It was almost time then.
"A few more minutes, then it'll all make sense," Jane promised before anyone could ask questions.
The room rocks and Amy falls out of The Ganger Doctors arms. The Ganger Doctor helps Ganger Cleaves hold the door as Rory shouts for Amy to come on. Amy runs towards Rory as The Doctor and his Ganger lock eyes. The Ganger Doctor notes his death has arrived and The Doctor notes they're not invited to this one.
"Wait, he knows that they've seen him die now. Won't this disrupt the timelines?" Mickey asked.
"Only if he tries to find out what happened and change it. And I have a feeling he has bigger concerns at the moment," Jack said grimly, thinking of Amy.
The Ganger Doctor is confused by this and The Doctor dismisses it, pulling out his screwdriver. He tosses it to his Ganger; pointing out his molecular memory might survive. The Ganger Doctor says he'll know if he was right if The Ganger Doctor turns up again. The two laugh, exchanging a nod before The Doctor moves towards Amy and Rory. The Ganger Doctor tells Ganger Cleaves to go as well but she refuses. The two bicker and Cleaves argues this is her factory. The Ganger Doctor kisses Ganger Cleaves on the forehead and tells her to beware of imitations. The Doctor, Amy and Rory head into the TARDIS after Ganger Cleaves tells them to head off. The TARDIS begins to take off and The Ganger Doctor tells Ganger Cleaves the screwdriver will dissolve Ganger Jennifer. She realizes it will dissolve them to.
"So this it for all of them," Martha realized and Jane nodded.
"None of the Gangers survive this," she confirmed.
"A shame. Two Doctor," Doctor said wistfully.
"I think it's a good thing you perv," Martha said as she looked at him in exasperation.
The TARDIS vanishes and The Ganger Doctor tells Ganger Cleaves there may be a way back. She asks how and he says they should find out. He opens the door to reveal Ganger Jennifer, now heavily mutated. "Geronimo," The Ganger Doctor declares before activating the screwdriver. Ganger Jennifer bursts into liquid Flesh and The Ganger Doctor and Ganger Cleaves dissolves seconds afterwards.
"So that's the end of them then," Donna said, feeling a little sad.
"Yeah, but what can ya do? You can't save everyone," Mickey pointed out.
"Doesn't mean you should stop trying," Donna argued.
"Maybe not," Mickey agreed.
On the TARDIS, The Doctor is at the console, deep in thought until Amy places a hand on his arm. Coming back to himself, The Doctor explains the energy from the TARDIS will stabilize the Gangers, allowing them to become people.
"So half the crew did survive after all," Jack said in surprise.
"Just not in the way it was expected," Jane agreed.
"Kind of twisted when you think about it. Two of the people who survived were copies," Martha muttered.
"But at the same time they were the same person. It's weird and complicated," Donna noted.
"That's life with The Doctor," Jack pointed out and no one really disagreed.
Cleaves asks about her blood clot and The Doctor says he has something for that, pulling out a vial of red liquid from under the console. He says it'll taste like burnt onions but should get rid of the clot. He tosses it to Cleaves and she catches it. The Doctor then pulls out a balloon, declaring it a happy ending.
"Weird way of looking at it," Donna muttered.
"Dad is the eternal optimist, or at least he tries to be. It's better than being a pessimist I say," Jane shrugged.
"It is a nice way of looking at things," Wilf noted.
Adam is seen on a beach, waiting for Jimmy. Hearing him call from behind, he turns around to see Ganger Jimmy waiting will balloons. He rushes over and happily embraces his father as The Doctor watches a few feet away. The Doctor smiles as the sound of the TARDIS is heard.
"Well, at least someone got a happy ending in all this," Donna said as they all watched, happy for Jimmy and Adam.
Jack was silent as he stared at the screen, once more remembering Alice when she had been a child, when he had been her world. Those memories were all he had left of her…and Steven.
The TARDIS is then seen appearing at a building with Morpeth Jetsan on the door. The Doctor leads Cleaves and Ganger Dicken out as she asks if he really wants them to do this. The Doctor says their company is selling to the world that the situation is over but they need to tell the world the situation has only just began. The Doctor tells them to make people understand what they are doing to the Flesh so they stop. He then tells Ganger Dicken to remember that people are good in their bones and not to hate them. Ganger Dicken says he can't, as he's one of them now. The Doctor says not to let the lives lost be in vain and to make what they say in that room count. Cleaves asks Dicken if he's ready before they walk up to the door. The Doctor smiles as Cleaves says side by side. Dicken agrees and they walk through the doors to the sound of reporters.
"Yeah, I remember now. Cleaves and Dicken blew the lid off the whole operation. It was the start of the Flesh being banned," Jack said, remembering it from the history books.
"Good. No one should be able to do that, to anyone," Martha said firmly.
"I guess all's well that ends well then," Mickey said and a dark look crossed Jane's face.
"Not quiet," Jane said and they looked at her confused. "You wanted to know about Amy and why Dad wanted to go there? Well, keep watching."
Amy asks if The Doctor is okay and he reminds her he said breathe. "Well, breathe," The Doctor says. Amy asks why when she suddenly gets a pain in her abdomen. She nearly doubles over as Rory helps her. Rory asks what's wrong and The Doctor says to get Amy into the TARDIS.
"Wait, what's happening with Amy?" Donna asked in concern as a dark look crossed Jack's face as well.
"She's in pain obviously," Mickey muttered, wondering what was happening as they all watched in concern.
The three of them head into the TARDIS and The Doctor begins heading up to the console. Rory asks what's happening to Amy and The Doctor says contractions. Rory is in disbelief as The Doctor explains she's going into labor.
"What the bloody Hell?!" Mickey exclaimed as they all stared at the screen in shock, save Jack and Jane. "Am I the only one who heard that?"
"No, we bloody well heard it to," Donna said in disbelief.
"How can she be in labor? She's not even pregnant," Wilf exclaimed.
Martha remembered The Doctor's actions throughout the recording before all the blood drained from her face.
"Oh my God," Martha whispered and they all turned to her.
"You figured it out huh?" Jack asked and she looked at him in surprise.
"When did you?" she asked and he smiled unpleasantly.
"Since The Doctor said he wanted to go there. That and Amy's strange reading? It was the only thing that made sense," Jack said darkly.
"What are you two talking about?" Wilf asked in bewilderment.
"Just wait, you'll get your answers in a moment," Jane promised that dark look on her face again.
Amy is in denial as Rory puts his arms around her waist. Amy says she doesn't like this as she feels the pain again. Rory demands The Doctor start explaining as The Doctor sarcastically asks if he needs to hear the birds and the bees. The Doctor says Amy is having a baby and he needed to see the Flesh in the early days, which is why he scanned it and why they were there in the first place. He explains he had plans to drop them off first before the solar tsunami. Amy says it hurts and The Doctor turns around, telling Amy to breath. He explains he needed enough information to block the signal to the Flesh. Amy asks what signal and The Doctor says the signal to her.
"No," Donna said as they realization washed over her.
"Amy," Wilf said as he and Mickey realized it to.
"The signal. It reads positive and negative because she is pregnant," Mickey muttered.
"But her Ganger isn't," Jack said darkly.
"How...when…" Donna trailed off, at a loss for words.
"It's a long story, and Dad explains anyway, so it's pointless to explain," Jane said with a sigh.
Amy doesn't understand and The Doctor tells Rory to step away from Amy. Rory refuses. "Given what we've learned, I'll do this as humanely as I can. But I need to do this and you need to stand away!" The Doctor snaps. Rory looks back at Amy, who shakes her head. Rory looks back at The Doctor before reluctantly stepping away from Amy. Rory holds her hand before letting go. Amy, seeming on the verge of tears; look at The Doctor as he walks down the steps, telling him she's scared. He tells her not to be. "Hold on. We're coming for you, I swear. And whatever happens, however hard, however far, we will find you," The Doctor promises as he puts a hand on her cheek. She grabs his hand, saying she's right here. "No you're not. You haven't been for a very long time," The Doctor says sadly. The Doctor pulls out his screwdriver and Amy and Rory realize the truth. The Doctor turns it on and Amy melts into a muddle of liquid Flesh. Amy wakes up in a white room in a white gown. An opening above her slides open and the woman with the eye patch pokes her head in. "Well dear, you're ready to pop, aren't you? Little one's on its way," she says. Amy looks down and sees her heavily swallowed stomach. "Here it comes. Puuushh," the woman with the eye patch says gleefully and Amy screams.
"Bloody Hell," Mickey muttered as the recording.
"All that time she's been on the TARDIS, Amy was really there," Martha said in horror.
"And the Spaceman knew. Why didn't he bloody say anything?!" Donna demanded angrily.
"Dad had his reasons; I'm really not sure what I would have done in his position," Jane said as she checked her watch. "We'll watch one more, and then break for lunch. Something tells me you'll need a break after the next."
Wondering what could possibly be so bad Jane thought they'd need a break after this one, the past viewers watched wearily as the next recording started.
Another great episode that not only perfectly continues the themes of the previous one, but has one of the greatest cliffhangers of all time.
