A/N: This was a request from HMG2000. The time frame is around now but Matt, Tuesday, Jay, Deputy Superintendent Miller, Kat and Chief Garland are all still around and Elliot never returned. Hank and Olivia are in a long distance marriage. There will be a second part to this. I don't own any of the characters except my own.

Hero – Part 1

Olivia and Noah had just arrived in Chicago for a long weekend. It was close to when Hank was due to get home, so they went straight to his house instead of the District. Hank knew they were headed to the house and he told Olivia he had an errand to run. He told her where he was headed and as soon as he got home, they would go out for dinner. Noah wanted to go Station 51, so she texted Hank to let him know and then they headed over there. When they arrived, they got out of the car and went in.

"Hey, Olivia. Hey, Noah."

"Hey, everyone. Noah wanted to stop by to see everyone while we were here for the weekend."

"We're always happy to see both of you."

"This is one of Noah's favorite places to visit in Chicago."

"We're glad to hear it."

They all talked for a while. Meanwhile, Hank was getting ready to leave CVS. He had paid for his purchase and was heading towards the entrance with all of a sudden there was a partial roof collapse at the front of the store. The front of the store had been a little busy.

"Everyone, remain calm! I'm a police officer."

Hank got out his phone and called 9-1-1. He gave his Badge #, he told the Dispatcher where he was and what had happened. He then started checking on people in front of the store.

Back at 51, the bells went off.

Truck 81, Engine 51, Squad 3 and Ambo 61, partial roof collapse at CVS Pharmacy, 1211 West Roosevelt Road. Plain clothes officer is on the scene.

"I think that is where Hank is."

"Mom, is Dad ok?"

"I don't know, Sweetie."

"He's probably the plain clothes officer on the scene. Olivia, you can ride with me. Noah can stay here with Kylie and Tuesday."

"Ok. Is that ok, Noah?"

"I guess."

"Noah, we'll find something to do."

Everyone left and headed to the scene, which wasn't too far away. By the time they arrived, Sylvie and Violet started a triage, while Squad 3 and others started going through the rubble to get the entrance cleared out. Hank had been able to get people grouped the best he could. Some of the other customers toward the back of the store either left via the back or came up front and helped Hank.

"Are you a real police man?"

"Yeah, I am."

"I'm Nadia."

"I'm Hank."

Nadia gave Hank a hug. It made him think of the hugs he got from Noah and Daniel. He also thought of the Intelligence Unit's beloved Nadia Decotis, who they all missed.

"Are you hurt?"

"My head is bleeding."

"Help should be here soon."

"I can't find my mommy."

"How old are you, Nadia?"

"I'm 5."

"Are you here with just your mom?"

"Uh huh. I don't have a daddy. It's just me and Mommy ever since my grandpa died."

"You stay here and I will go look for her."

"No! Don't leave me. I'm scared."

"I know you're scared but it's my job to help people."

Nadia grabbed onto Hank, so he wouldn't leave her.

"FIRE DEPARTMENT! CALL OUT!"

"CASEY!"

"VOIGHT, WE'RE ALMOST THERE!"

Hank could hear them getting closer and then Kelly came in first.

"Voight, you ok?"

"I think so. I have some pain in my leg but it's not bad. I tried groupin' people together the best I could. The ones that could still walk are up here."

"Ok. Good. Any fatalities?"

"Maybe a half dozen that I could tell. This is Nadia. She got separated from her mom."

"Hey, Nadia. I'm Kelly. What's your mom's name?"

"Caroline. I have her phone."

Hank took the phone from Nadia and noticed that it was on the home screen."

"Is this her?"

"Yes."

"I need to talk to Kelly over there for a minute."

"Ok."

Hank and Kelly went to another spot.

"Her mother is one of the fatalities."

"We'll take care of it. Take her out and both of you should be looked at by the paramedics. Olivia is out there with Boden."

"Noah too?"

"He's at 51 with Kylie and Tuesday."

"Ok."

Hank headed back to where Nadia was and picked her up. He headed to the entrance and once they were outside, Mouch took Nadia. Hank's leg gave out and he collapsed in pain.

"BRETT!"

Sylvie came over and Mouch took Nadia over to one of the other paramedics.

"Is Hank gonna be ok?"

"He should be."

Mouch went back to help. When they wheeled Hank over to the ambo, Olivia ran over.

"Hank Honey, are you ok?"

"I'm fine. I wanna go home."

"Oh no! You are going to the hospital, Henry Voight!"

"Don't be so bossy!"

"Just stop it right now! Sylvie, is he ok?"

"It looks like a possible broken leg."

"Was it the adrenaline?"

"More than likely. I've seen it happen before."

Then Nadia came over.

"Are you Hank's wife?"

"I am."

"I'm Nadia."

"I'm Olivia."

"Hank took care of us."

"He did, huh?"

"Uh huh. I'm waiting for my mommy to be rescued."

All Hank had to do was look at Olivia and she knew it wasn't good news.

"We need to get him to Med."

"Ok."

They saw Kelly bring Caroline out and put her down next to the other fatalities.

"Mommy, no!"

Nadia started screaming and crying and then Olivia picked her up. They put Hank in the ambo, while Olivia got in with Nadia. Violet stayed in the back, while Sylvie drove to Med. Olivia rubbed Nadia's back the entire time and she knew what was going through Hank's head. They arrived at Med and took Hank in. Maggie told them where to take him.

"She needs to be looked at too but she's a little clingy right now."

"We can put her in the room by Hank's and opened it up. What's your name, Sweetie?"

"Nadia."

"Hi Nadia. I'm Maggie."

"My mommy died."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

"Hank and I will accept full responsibility for her. She seems to have become quite attached to him."

"Ok."

They took Nadia too the room by Hank's and opened it up, so she could see him. Then Sharon came over to Olivia.

"Olivia."

"Hey."

Olivia explained the situation to Sharon.

"For right now, that's fine but I will have to bring DCFS in."

"I get it. If there is any way we can at least get temporary custody of her, we'll do it. For some reason, she's really attached to Hank."

"He may be a little rough around the edges but he's a good guy."

"That he is."

Olivia went to check on both Hank and Nadia.

"Olivia, Hank's leg is broken in a couple places, so he will need surgery."

"Ok."

"Your friend here just needs to have a few stitches."

"Ok, good."

"My name is Nadia Grace Samson."

Then Chief Boden came in with Noah.

"Dad, are you ok?"

"I need to have surgery."

"That stinks."

"Yeah, it does."

They came in to get Hank.

"I love, Honey."

"I love you too."

"Love you, Dad."

"Love you too, Bud."

Olivia and Noah kissed Hank and then Nadia crawled up there.

"Thank you for helping me, Hank."

"You're welcome."

Nadia kissed Hank's cheek and then he was taken to surgery, while Will stitched up Nadia's head.

"Olivia, don't go!"

"I'm not going anywhere, Sweetie. Nadia, this is Noah. Noah, this is Nadia."

"Hi."

"Hi."

Olivia had texted Erin, Olive and Fin to let them know what was going on. Her phone rang for a video chat.

"Chief, would you mind?"

"Not at all."

"Thanks. I shouldn't be long."

Olivia went out of the room and answered it.

"Hey, Fin."

"What's goin' on, Liv?"

"They just took Hank into surgery. I will probably be here longer that I expected, so I will probably have to take Family Leave. This little girl became attached to Hank and she ended up losing her mother. I have a feeling that Hank wants to take her. I will have to talk to Noah about it at some point since it affects him too."

"How long do you think you'll be there?"

"Hank is supposed to retire in a month, so I'm guessing that long. However, it could be longer if we can take Nadia. If you need me, you can contact me via video chat. I'll let Chief Garland and Carisi know that as well. I'm still waiting to hear back from Erin. I'm hoping I can arrange something with her to stay with Noah. I'll probably have to see if Lucy can come get him on Monday. If Erin can't stay with him, then I'll have to check with Rollins."

"Phoebe said if you need help, he can stay with us."

Then Phoebe came on the screen.

"If Lucy can't come get him, I'll fly out there and get him for you. I could use a few days off. If he needs to stay with us, he can."

"What if you get a call at the same time? If Erin has him, she rearranges her schedule, so she doesn't have to go out of town when she has him. Rollins has Carisi if she needs to go out. If Erin has him, she'll bring him out to see us."

"My sister isn't that far away. I can call her and have her come stay with him. It's not like he's never met her before."

"True. I hate doing this to you, Fin but I have to focus on Hank right now."

"I get it. I'll do what I can and I'll try not to be such a pain in your ass about it."

"I'll make sure of that."

"Thanks, both of you. All I wanted was to spend a few days with my husband and son. Who knows, maybe by the time I'm back in New York, we will have another family member."

"It's not definite yet?"

"No. We still have a bunch of hurdles to get over. Do me a favor. Look through our files and see if we have anything on a Caroline Samson. For some reason, that name sounds so familiar to me. That's little Nadia's mother."

"Ok. I'll look as soon as I get in tomorrow."

"Thanks."

"No problem. Good luck and we hope things go ok with Voight."

"Thanks."

"Love you, baby girl."

"I love you both too. I'll be in touch."

"Ok."

Olivia hung up with Fin and Phoebe and went back to the room.

"Are they causing trouble?"

"Nah. They're good."

"Any idea what caused this?"

"Casey and Severide are lookin' into that personally."

"Olivia, I need to go potty."

"Ok, Sweetie."

Then the nurse came in.

"She needs the bathroom."

"Of course."

The nurse took Nadia to the bathroom.

"I need to get back."

"Thanks for bringing him."

"No problem. Good to see you, little man."

"You too, Chief."

Chief Boden left and then Olivia had a talk with Noah.

"I'm ok with that if it happens."

"I am probably going to be here more than I'm not."

"I know. You have to help Dad and if Nadia becomes a part of the family, you'll need to be here to make that happen. I get it. Who am I staying with?"

"I'm waiting to hear back from Erin. I know she's been out of town. I'm hoping you can stay with her. If not, I'll check with Aunt Amanda. Uncle Fin and Aunt Phoebe offered too."

"I'm ok with any of them."

Then the nurse came back with Nadia.

"Olivia."

"What, Sweetie?"

"Do you work?"

"I do. I'm a cop too but I'm in another city."

"Close by?"

"I'm in New York."

"We're from New York. We moved here when I was 2. How are you and Hank married if you're in another city?"

"We've been together for a while and we've just made it work. We don't like being apart as much as we are but we see each other as often as we can. Hank is planning to retire in another month, so he can be in New York with us all the time."

Then Hank's squad and Trudy came in.

"What's going on with Hank?"

"He's in surgery right now. He has a broken leg."

"I heard about what happened from Randy and then I called the rest of them."

"Have you heard from Erin?"

"I texted both her and Olive. I know she's out of town again. I think DC. Are you guys investigating what happened?"

"We probably shouldn't, since our boss was one of the victims but for now, we are. Casey and Severide don't think it was a structural issue with the building. We're heading over to the store now to check out the security footage. Miller will probably take us off the case."

"This is Nadia."

"Hey, Nadia. I'm Kim."

"I'm Hailey."

"I'm Jay."

"I'm Adam."

"And I'm Kevin."

"Her mom was one of the deceased."

"So sorry to hear that."

"We heard Hank was the one that took charge."

"That's what I heard."

"We need to head over there."

"I'm stickin' around though. Call me if you need me."

"We will. Thanks, Platt."

Everyone except Trudy left and Olivia walked them out.

"Nadia confirmed that she and her mom are from New York and moved here 3 years ago. I think her mom may have been one of our vics from a few years ago and I remember there being an Order of Protection at one point. I'm having Fin check for sure, which he said he will do in the morning. If this turns out to be sabotage and you get a person of interest, I'll have him get it sooner."

"You think she may be the intended target?"

"I don't know. Nadia has her mom's phone."

"That might help."

Olivia went to get Caroline's phone from Nadia and gave it to Jay. He then gave it to Kevin.

"I have a feeling that Hank wants to take her. I still have to meet with DCFS but if we can get something that will help before then, that'll be great."

"We'll figure it out."

"Hold up. Someone from an unknown number has been texting her and makin' threats to both her and Nadia. All it says is, 'you know what I want, you f-in bitch and I won't stop until I get it. You know that that means.' Damn!"

"Olivia, do not let that girl out of your sight for anything."

"I won't."

Jay and the rest of the squad left and then Olivia went to talk to Trudy, who advised her to tell Goodwin. She said she would get Patrol officers to have more of a presence around the hospital as well. Trudy stayed with the kids, while Olivia went to talk to Sharon and told her what Trudy had said. The only thing they didn't know was who was doing it.
