~~Days ago~~

"That! Was too close Seigrain." Rayon snapped as his niece picked herself up off the floor, the Kageyami spirit piece snarled as it hit the glowing green barriers with rage. It flew up to go up and out but it smacked straight into its roof of it before ping-ponging off the four sides in desperation to escape.

"How long will it hold-"

"A day at most and this is far enough from civilisation that humans can't accidentally run into it."

"Right. Now we need to get back, they should already have put Kuragari into Yira's Chakra system." Rayon stated, bristling with irritation. Blue Lightning danced around his body and was gone in a blur, Seigrain following suit behind him.

"Really? Reports said she was unable to access the Avatar State!" Seigrain said as the group reported back from the mission, her playing cards dancing between her fingers.

The goal was to allow her sister to be 'rescued' but they had shown up a lot earlier than intended with caused a few... complications. But it was easily rectified.

Avatar Korra going into the Avatar State was a surprise. All her info said spiritual training was slow and sloppy.

"It would seem that Korra seemed to have created strong emotional bond to Yira and given what we did, are you surprised she reacted the way she did?" Katsu said snarkily. His arms crossing over his chest angerly.

She shrugged back, Rayon was silent next to her in deep thought.

"Now, with all that done, can we be done with interfering with Yira life in the city until her mission is over. Let her have peace before you remove her memory blockers." Ao grumbled.

"The sealing barrier should be weakening, he will be breaking out soon. Seigrain will go to her. Best thing now is to ward off the soul fragment. Its gonna be pissed when it tries to remerge with Yira and then we should give her... Space. Her body is still adjusting to Kuragari's power and its best to give them breathing room without... worrying them too much about another attempt."

Katsu snorted at that. Rayon ignored him as he finished the reports.

"How are things in Kazumire?"

"Infusers done. Schools are opening in a week and the clinic is getting an expansion. New businesses are setting up well and we eliminated an attempt at a triad trying to form in the southern sections." Genji shrugged, flexing his arm. The damage done by Korra had been repaired earlier that day.

"At least one of few good things have been achieved."

Rayon sighed as he dropped a red pill into his water, bubbling as it dissolves. As much as he hated what he helped do to his niece, she was free of Kageyami clutches. The mental memory blockers would degrade over time and mixed up with little context. Like a band-aid. Best have it ripped off at once. But not now. She needs time to heal. Mentally.

Turning someone into a Jinchuriki at her age was risky but it was far better than being prey to that leech.

It was…odd. She was the same but so different at the same time.

He was glad she had made friends or remaking them. Sato girl was an interesting development, she didn't seem to remember her but then again Yira did have a different look, name and style back before the Steel Express fiasco. Perhaps it was an unconscious thing that drew them together.

Destiny works in such strange ways.

A white ice shooting pain in her chest and burning heat in her stomach was what awoke the Sand bender in republic city.

Her green eyes snapping open, breath choaking in her lungs as a pair white glowing eyes and a body like a shadow loomed above her, her eyes traced its arm which was in her chest where the cold was most intense.

Kage?

Unlike the Kage she knew, this one felt... Wrong.

Dark and... Corrupt.

What the fuck was going on?!

Her fist immediately balled up with a surprisingly large amount of fire in a blast that knocked it away. The pain in her heart and gut was lessened to a dull throb. The shadow creature seemed to hiss, in a blur it grabbed both her shoulders and yanked her out the bed.

Instinctively she sent the biggest blast of air she could in her panic that blasted a hole in the wall and half the ceiling of her room.

She yelped as landed and bounced off her bed to ground, her head knocking painfully on the floor.

Yira was dazed, she vaguely felt a hand grab her shoulder and roll her to her back to then lean against the nightstand.

Her heart froze as she saw the familiar masks, horror filled her stomach. The woman head looks into the direction of the corrupt Kage-thing. Clearly talking to it but her head was still ringing and couldn't make out anything.

"You..." Her face twisted into a snarl, the dragon painted woman grabbed her wrist as she brought it up.

*BAMM*

Yira flinched as door burst open and two guards streamed in, throwing fire and water at the masked woman. Ringing bells were blossoming across the island.

Her head was still spinning as she got to her feet as she saw Tenzin and Korra joined the frey. Someone was talking to her, pulling her wrist and dragging her back.

Asami yelped but not pausing for a second to jump between her and the dragon lady as she was in a blur by the exit she was about to leave from.

The woman seemed to let out a chortle, her hand shoot up in a hand sign.

Yira cried out in pain, collapsing to the floor- her single hand clutching her neck as ignited in smouldering agony.

"STOP IT, YOUR HURTING HER!" Asami snarled along with Korra, who was now at her side, glaring at the masked woman as she slid the sand bender numb arm over her shoulder as Yira barely contained screech was loud in her ear.

The woman said nothing as she released her hand gesture.

Yira's breath sagged with relief as the pain died away, sweat dripping down the temple- her face red from pain was draining back to her pale complexion.

Tenzin took a deep shaky breath as Yira was now out of pain. But it was obvious that their hooks were in her. A leash. They want to control her.

"Why her! Why do you want her to join you so badly?" Korra snarled, her fists blazing.

The masked woman's head cocked to the side in thought, turning to Yira.

"You will join us, willingly. But not yet. You're not ready."

"Why the fuck would I do that?" Yira scoffed at her.

Despite the mask it was evident she had a grin on her face. An ultimatum.

"Don't you want to know what happened to your mother. To your father? What caused your memory loss two years ago?"

Yira stiffened at that her tired eyes sharpening, jaw clenching.

"Not with your strings attached. I'll find out on my own." Yira glared.

The woman let out a barkish laugh.

"Well alright dear, you try that. But should you change your mind, we'll know."

Korra hisses in anger as a smoke bomb was dropped, Tenzin's air blast cut the air to reveal she was long gone.

A single envelope lay on the ground.

Tenzin picked it up.

Asami escorted Yira to a spare room, who passed out the second she head hit the pillow.

Pulling the blanket over the teen, Asami head snapped up to see Korra and Naga entering with bedroll under her arm and setting it on the floor.

The wreckage of Yira's room would be addressed tomorrow morning.

"I'll stay, you need to sleep. Naga will let me know if something happens."

Asami nodded after a second as Korra got her bed set up next to the earthbenders bed. Naga settled on her other side. The sound of a police airship was the only sound cutting the silence.

Here we go chapter 39.

Sorry, that's so short. I have lost a bit of motivation on writing this fan fic. And I'm surprised it taken me 6 months to update. I can't say when the next update will be, I have been so busy with my job, redecorating and plastering my new home and recovering from covid that's been going round the family.

A recent count up told me that I have 23 fanfictions on the go and with only five posted online

But the story should be getting back on track with the story line, let's have Yira actually take a break for a change.

Thankyou again my lovely readers, it means a lot that you read my story and I love feedback and reviews; :P
