Chapter 10: When at First You Don't Succeed, Smite and Smite Again

After dealing with the ghosts and having a moment with Danny, Star went back to her jog. Danny flew back home since he still had chores to do (due to having put them off due to ghost business) before his parents come home and scold him.

Oh, Danny~..."She thought, smiling as she kept jogging back home.

However, she stopped for a moment when she noticed that her shoe was untied.

"Huh? Oh, can't have myself tripping now..."She thought as she lifted her foot onto a bench and began to tie it.

During this time, Misty and Shi spotted her and had their next scheme ready.

"Alright, she's alone again. Do it..."The teenage girl ordered.

Her minion nodded and went to do what he had to do. He became invisible and began approaching Star, less than excited about the new plan from the young sorceress. Star didn't notice him, but she did notice a strange smell.

It made her face cringe and her eyes water due to how bad it is.

"Ugh! What smells like gym socks and onions?!..."Star gagged as she covered her nose and mouth with both hands.

"Can you do something about this horrid stench? It's interfering with my work..."Shi whispered to his master.

Misty didn't care as she ignored him. She just watched as the blonde girl was sprayed and was currently waving her hand in her face, unaware of the trap that she was about to fall in.

Star cringed as she kept trying to get away from that rotten smell, before a mosquito landed on her arm and bit her.

"Ow! Hey!..."The blonde girl said as she slapped it.

She was about to brush it off...but then another bug landed on her arm and she freaked out.

"Hey, I don't even like the not ghost variant!..."She yelled as she swatted it away.

To her displeasure, there were more surrounding her

Soon, more bugs began to crawl towards her and she made a run for it. She freaked out as a bunch of spiders, moths, wasps, bees, ants and cockroaches zeroed in on her.

"Get away from me!..."Star said as she ran for it.

Misty and Shi watched this and they were smirking now.

"Now this is a way to smite someone. It may not be my first choice of methods, but it certainly does get the intended results..."Shi said.

"How long does this spell last again anyway?..."Misty asked, since the smell is really rotten and even she couldn't stand it.

"It'll last a few minutes, but this should do..."Shi whispered.

Misty smirked as the bugs tried to corner Star and crawl all over her.

"EW! Gross! SO GROSS! What's with all these creepy crawlies?..."Star yelled as she panicked in disgust, distancing herself at top speed as she tried to get away from them.

To her relief, a street sweeper came in, crushing the ground based bugs while also blocking the flying ones. But it was still not enough, a lot of them are still after her.

"What am I?! A human sized leftover picnic?! I gotta get rid of these pests!..."She thought, trying to brainstorm.

Star soon spotted a nearby bug zapper and didn't think twice, placing it in front of the flying swarm of insects as the crackling of electric death filled her ears.

"That works!..."She thought before she proceeded to use it as a make-shift weapon.

She ran to it and used it like a shield/battery ram, annihilating her scary pests. as they tried to assault her again, only to fly head first into the bug zapper.

"Take this, you filthy insects!..."Star said as the bugs' numbers diminished rapidly.

Within minutes, the girl panted in victory. The bugs were now in a smoking pile on the ground, no longer moving.

"I better not tell Sam about this. With the exception of that black widow from Camp Eerie, I don't think she'd like this..."Star thought as she went back to jogging.

Shi and Misty witness this and were wide-eyed out of shock with what the Star just did.. The jiangshi was impressed with Star's resourcefulness and creativity while Misty was livid.

"Are you kidding me?!..."The dark haired girl exclaimed, looking angry.

"The technology of this era is certainly useful and quite fascinating. That electric lantern saved her..."Shi commented, almost impressed.

"Who cares about a bug zapper?! She's still not leaving town and she ruined another one of my plans!..."Misty said, angry. "How does she keep doing this?!..."She exclaimed, looking really upset.

"Calm yourself, we still have the spell book and plenty to use in it. Not to mention time to spare..."Shi said.

The dark haired girl teenage girl then took a breath and calmed as they continued trying to smite the blonde girl and getting her to leave Amity Park for good.

Later

Star had kept jogging back home, but soon made it to a crosswalk. The light was red, so she had to wait. During this time, Misty ordered Shi to place a talisman on her. Not just any talisman too.

She checked her spell book and this talisman can cause an enemy to become ill and remain bedridden, even mimicking symptoms of the flu or the common cold too.

"Hmm...I don't wanna hurt her...but I guess getting a cold won't kill her. And it will give us some time for Shi to scare her without her fighting back...and give me some time to get to know Danny better..."Misty reasoned when she prepared the talisman.

Shi, being invisible, flew to her and placed the talisman on her back. Star didn't notice this as she kept walking.

Suddenly, she felt cold and began to sneeze.

"Achoo! Achoo!..."The blonde girl sneezed and she even started "vampire-sneezing".

"It's working!..."Misty said, grinning with anticipation as the blonde girl started to sneeze and cough.

"Oh no, I can't be catching another cold! I can't get sick now, not before I had the chance to give Danny his gift!..."Star complained as she sneezed more.

Star groaned and leaned onto a wall, she suddenly felt lightheaded and woozy too, wobbling side to side.

"Yes, yes!..." Misty went.

As Star started sneezing her guts out, she then noticed a piece of weird looking paper feeling on her, one that she didn't notice was on her until now.

"What is this?..."Star said as she picked it off her back.

"No!..."Misty cursed under her breath and hid. "I should have put some invisibility charm on it when I had the chance!..."She thought, upset that her latest plan was beginning to flop.

"Really? Did someone stick this on me as a joke? If so, it's not funny. Honestly, the nerve of some people!..."Star said as she tossed it to where some garbage cans were, thinking it was junk.

Once done, she realized that she stopped sneezing and smiled as she felt better in an instant.

"Huh? I'm not sneezing anymore, must've been an allergic reaction or something. Weird..."She thought as the signal changed, allowing her to walk.

Star did so, crossing the street and was soon on the other side. Unknown to her, the talisman landed on Misty, who was still hiding behind the garbage with Shi.

"Darn it! Achoo!..."Misty said before she began to sneeze as the talisman was still in effect.

She even felt herself get pale and her nose was beginning to get runny, not that her minion cared.

"I believe you should've done what is called the vampire sneeze..."Shi grumbled as Misty sent him a dirty look before she went back to sneezing since the effects of the talisman were still in place.

"This isn't over, Prince-...aaa...aaa...achoo!..."Misty sneezed again.

Later

Star, feeling much better, went back to jogging back home. However, she passed by a food cart and began to feel a little peckish.

"Mom would probably say that these would be bad for my waist...but I'm exercising and it's not like I'm eating these every day..."Star reasoned as she purchased a chili-dog and soon went to a nearby bench to eat it.

Misty, who got rid of that talisman and was no longer sneezing, tailed her again with Shi.

"Now what?..."She demanded, feeling like they were running out of ideas.

"May I make a suggestion?..."Shi said.

"What?..."Misty asked, impatient.

"I do believe that their is a particular spell in your spell books that would enchant the food that she is about to devour..."Shi said. "It would make her more unwilling to fight back in order for me to menace her into leaving town..."He said.

Misty raised a brow, pulled her spell book from her bag and searched for it. She soon found a particular spell and stroked her chin as she quickly gave it a once over.

"Okay, this may work..."Misty said as her hands and eyes glowed green a bit as they began to caste the spell.

"Here goes nothing..."She thought as she got started.

Her hands and eyes glowed green as Star, who briefly stopped eating her chili dog and took a sip of water, didn't notice that it briefly glowed green before she took a gulp, as if nothing happened.

The unsuspecting blonde girl finished drinking her water and went back to eating, not knowing what was happening. After a moment, Misty was chanting the spell again as the chili dog glowed a ghostly green momentarily before it stopped, which the blonde girl didn't even notice due to her eyes being briefly closed during that moment.

"Wait...what did I do?..."Misty asked, wondering what had happened.

"What do you mean? You sent a spell to enchant her food with ingredients mean to harm her health and weaken her..."Shi explained, like it was nothing.

Misty gasped in horror.

"WHAT?! I didn't want to do that! Are you saying that spell is suppose to give her FOOD POISONING?!..."She exclaimed, horrified.

"It's more like you altered her food, replacing part of it with food that will weaken her, and make her sick..,maybe make her bloated and get a rash...to be honest, it's more like the food will make her allergic to it and the body will react accordingly..."Shi explained but it didn't make Misty feel any better.

"You're saying that spell is suppose to make her have an ALLERGIC REACTION?! Are you crazy?! People end up in the hospital for that or worse?!..."Misty said, worried for Star's health.

"I told you that the spell would render her unable to fight back. Besides, didn't you read the spell to the end and saw all the principles that it would entail?..."Shi asked.

"I was so anxious to get back at her that I just skipped that part and did it anyway..."Misty said, regretting being so hasty. "And don't act like you aren't at fault here, You should've warned me about the important stuff sooner..."She said.

"Says the girl who admits to not reading the entirety of the spell and still using it on a fellow mortal..."Shi said and Misty gulped.

She then turned to Star and wanted to check up on her and possibly call an ambulance. To her surprise, she finished eating her chili dog and didn't seem worse for wear.

"Delicious!..."Star said as she used a napkin to wipe her lips clean.

She then went back to her walk, while Misty and Shi both blinked in surprise. She kept walking and looking as healthy as ever, no signs of food poisoning or allergic reactions either.

"Okay, I'm confused. I mean...I'm glad she didn't have an allergic reaction but...what happened?..."Misty asked.

Shi checked the spell book and saw what it was.

"Oh, I see now..."He said with realization.

"What?..."Misty asked.

"It seems I misunderstood something. It says here that this spells adds small traces of egg, peanuts, fish and various fruits, meant to give allergic reactions to people whom ARE allergic to those kinds of foods. The spell adds them without making them detectable to the person eating it. Apparently, she doesn't seem to be allergic to those kinds of foods, so it has no affect on her..."Shi explained and his master looked relieved to hear that.

"Thank goodness!..."Misty said, not having wanted that on her conscious. "Note to self, NEVER use that spell ever again!..."She thought, not wanting to risk giving anyone food poisoning or allergic reactions in the future.

She let out a sigh of relief before her jiangshi stepped in, curious about the current state in their goal now.

"So, does this mean that you give up and we can do other things during your sorceress training...like setting me free?..."Shi asked impatiently.

"Hold your horses, male version of Hsien-Ko! I'm glad that I didn't send her to the hospital, but she's still in need of leaving..."Misty said. "That pampered princess still needs to leave this town and my future boyfriend..."She said, being stubborn while her minion looked at her in exasperation.

"You need to make up your mind already! You are okay with sending spirits and me to torment that girl to steal her lover, and were even willing to give her an illness and yet you draw the line at poisoning her or ending her life?! You are a very confusing sorceress..."Shi said.

"Hey, I never wanted to hurt her in the first place! I told you a million times that I don't want her dead and it's not like a minor cold would kill her or anything. I just want her out of the way so the boy I love can be with me..."Misty insisted. "I only want to scare her enough to make her chose to leave Amity Park and Danny for good, but not enough to cause any permanent damage to her..."She said, drawing the line there.

"Teenagers and their so-called logic..."Shi thought as his master began to order him around for their next plot.

Later

Misty and Shi began to follow Star again. Unfortunately, a crowd of people had flooded the streets and Misty was blocked off, separating them.

"Darn it!..."Misty thought, angry.

"Don't worry. I know where she lives. And thankfully it isn't far from our current location..."Shi said.

"Follow her and don't let her out of your sight. I'll try to think up of new plan until then..."Misty said, pondering for her newest scare tactic for Star

Shi obeyed and disappeared, leaving the girl all alone.

"He'd better get this right..."Misty thought, being stubborn and full of teenage angst.

However, she was begging to have some second thoughts and wondered about the lengths she was going for her plan.

"Am I going too far? I mean...Danny's cute, but is all this worth it for a boy?..."She thought.

In response, the girl's body gave a faint glow that she couldn't see or feel, but the effects took over. Misty started walking as she started justifying her reasons, only to start adding another to the list.

"I mean...I want him to like me...but..."Her train of thought ended when she heard a familiar voice.

"Thanks again, Mr. Cooper..."A male voice was heard.

Misty's heart skipped a beat. She turned and saw that it was Danny leaving some kind of store. She was so flustered that she even hid in a nearby alley, and he didn't see her as he was still talking to the store's owner.

"No problem, Danny. You take care now. Oh, and tell your parents that I'm really grateful ghost shield installments that they put in my store, it's been great for business whenever those ghosts show up near here..."A man, presumably the store owner said as the boy left.

"Will do..."The boy said as he left.

Danny, who was on one of his chores, returned the potatoes that his dad bought by mistake and got the correct sweet potatoes instead, since his mom wanted to use them for tonight dinner.

"Just a few more chores left to do and I'm off the hook. And then I can go back to hanging out with Star as much as possible..."The ghost boy thought as he headed back home, still having a couple of chores left to do before he could regain his freedom.

"Note to self, try NOT to let this weeks chores pile up ever again..."He thought, glancing at the long list he had been working off.

He had no idea that Misty saw him and was sending him dreamy eyes.

"There he is. My Qīnài de to be..."She thought as her heart fluttered, not feeling the strange energy take hold of her.

Seeing Danny made her feelings stir within her, as she recalled what she likes about him and all the things she admires about him.

"He really is so cute...our lives are gonna be so great together... and it all starts when Star is gone…"Misty thought as her eyes briefly flashed green as she kept sending the boy dreamy looks.

The hearts in her eyes grew as her thoughts became fantastical, wearing away from reality as she imagined herself and the ghost boy riding away on a horse into the sunset. Such thoughts would had been snapped out of, but something inside the girl didn't let her stop that yet, as she kept fantasizing and admiring the boy again.

She was reminded of why she was doing this...and she still felt that she was in the right.

"I don't care how this might look...but I just know that Star is too spoiled and vapid to deserve a nice guy like that! There is no way that she can truly make him happy! I know that I'd make a better girlfriend than her any day of the week!..."She thought, feeling her cheeks burn red as her eyes glowed green a bit.

Misty then got a message from her phone. It was Shi, who was trying to communicate with her magically through her phone again.

"Sorceress...come...I have spotted the comely westerner girl with the lovely hair and prettier eyes than yours..."Shi said.

Misty frowned in annoyance.

"You don't have to keep calling her comely, ya know..."She said, irritated.

Shi smirked.

"I'm still adapting to this new era's modern way of speaking and communication..."He said, but deep down, he just liked getting under her skin.

"Whatever, I'll be there..."Misty said before putting her phone away.

She looked in the direction where Danny had went and it strengthened her resolve.

"I know that this might be mean...but...all is fair in love and war..."She convinced herself as she soon left to enact her progressively fiendish plan.

Later

Star soon returned home, showered, changed into her favorite shirt and orange capri's and went back to working on her sweater for Danny.

"Oh, I just know that he's gonna love the cold in this sweater once I'm done..."Star thought, feeling giddy as she went back to knitting as much as she could.

Georgia was dong her usual chores and saw the blonde girl busy hand knitting what was starting to look like a sweater...kind of.

"I see that you are making the sweater..."The kindly housekeeper said.

"Yeah, I'm making Danny a sweater by hand. I got this idea form watching you, Thanks again, who knew such old traditions could still be effective today..."Star said as she presented the half-done sweater to her housekeeper.

Georgia saw it and tried hard not to cringed at the sight of it.

"Oh dear..."She thought, trying to find the right words.

"My...it's certainly...one of a kind..."Georgia said, trying not to hurt her feelings.

Star was still smiling and so full of optimism. But none of that could improve her amateur skills.

"Well, it will be even better when I'm done with it. I can't wait to see how Danny will look when he wears this when it give it to him tomorrow..."Star said in a giddy way.

"On, I'm sure that he'll be as...speechless as I was just now. And probably even more so..."Georgia said, knowing that this probably won't turn out the way Star expects.

She then registered what else she said.

"Tomorrow?..."The housekeeper asked.

Star nodded.

"Yeah, I'm gonna work all day on it today and have it ready to give to my boo first thing tomorrow..."She said, looking excited.

"Oh dear! I'd better say something to her before good intentions turn into hurt feelings or worse..."She thought as she tried to gently break it down to her employer's daughter.

However, seeing the smile on her face, she didn't have the heart to tell her that the sweater was starting to look less than ideal. Instead, she decided to gently critic her work, in hopes that she will see for herself that her design needs some rework.

"Uh...Star...I am happy that you have taken an interest in knitting and it's very sweet that you are trying to make a gift for Danny..."The house keeper began, trying to be as gentle as possible.

"But don't rush something as wonderful as a gift like a handmade sweater. You'll want to make it as special as possible. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day..."Georgia said, since she knew that there is no way the sweater will be ready tomorrow, or presentable with how things are going but she didn't have the heart to tell the real reason to Star's face.

"Don't worry, Georgia. I'm not gonna stop until the sweater is ready and every bit as cute as my boyfriend..."Star said, smiling and still not seeing that her labor of love might not end up as she wants it to.

Georgia gave a nervous grin, looking at the misshapen sweater. It was a thoughtful gesture, but Star's love was blinding her to the flaws of her item. However, the maid figured it was better to let her be, for now.

"Well, so long as you put your heart into it, then perhaps that's all that matters... I guess.."Georgia said, still worried about how things could play out for the pure hearted girl

DING.

She then heard a ding from the kitchen and soon found the perfect distraction.

"Oh my, cookies are ready. Why don't we have a little milk and cookie break? Like when you were little?..."Georgia suggested.

Star wanted to go back to work on the sweater, but the smell of the cookies reached her nose and her mouth practically watered now.

"Are those chocolate chip?!..."Star asked, excited.

"Peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies, your favorite..."Georgia said, smiling.

Star was practically drooling now. Georgia has always been a great cook and her cookies are the best. She always made these cookies when she was little and even now, she always looked forward to another batch. She could never resist them, even when she was a diet-conscious A-lister and was ordered by Paulina to watch her weight at all times.

But those days are behind her and she literally has nothing to stop her.

"Well, maybe a little break won't hurt anybody..."She said as she went to the kitchen with her housekeeper, unaware that they were being watched.

Misty ordered Shi to help her sneak up by carrying her near the house and making her invisible too, to avoid detection. This is the first time Misty saw Star's house up close.

She frowned.

"Figures. This place smells of rich and privileged people with too much time and money of their hands, the same like what you'd see on TV. They even have a pool..."Misty grumbled as her envy raised a bit as her eyes flashed green.

She also saw the kitchen where the housekeeper was serving Star milk and cookies and she could smell how delicious they must be.

This made the girl green with envy as her eyes narrowed in anger.

"Cute boyfriend...Fancy house...swimming pool...maids who bake and follow your every order...everything here screams of the perfect life...it's not fair!..."Misty grumbled as she felt something inside her start to build up, wanting nothing more than to tear this place apart and bring that blonde princess down.

Shi noticed this and smirked as he could sense the raw envy within Misty start to build up. It few as he watched, making him form a smile, before dropping for a neutral mask.

"Hmm..."He thought as he went to his master and decided to fan the flames a bit more.

He leaned into the girl's ear..

"It seems that the comely one truly does live like a princess compared to a pauper like you. What do you suggest we do now?..."Shi asked, egging her on.

Usually, Misty would snap at him but she was too busy being jealous and envy of Star's luxury and good fortune.

"Looks...money...a cute boyfriend...servants at your beck and call...she probably doesn't even try hard at school and probably won't ever have to work a day in her life as she grows up, marries the perfect guy and has perfect kids while they all live the perfect life! It's not fair!..."She thought, glaring harder and harder as the contrast between the girls was too much.

Their lives seemed as different as night and day and she couldn't STAND IT!

"She needs to be brought down a level. Make that several..."Misty said as she spoke with a bit of venom in her voice.

Her eyes glowed greener and she soon ordered Shi to take her to the kitchen undetected, already with a new plan forming in her mind.

Uh-oh.
