Chapter 4

Courtneys POV

9:00am

Today wasn't just another day it was officially Serenity's first day of pre school. My heart had this overwhelming feeling that I think all parents get when they face the reality of there kids growing up. I got a little emotional looking back from the moment she was a baby to now going to school.

I tried not to cry as we walked towards a crosswalk, this morning started a little off.

I thought I had set my alarm only to discover that I forgot to turn it on, followed by waking up Serenity getting her ready and make breakfast. Thankfully I had prepared her lunch the day before, I could only imagine what it would of been like if I hadn't.

Then I had to get myself ready a quick shower, blow dry, followed by makeup ( mostly eye liner and mascara), getting dressed I settled with a light beige one piece short sleeved dress with black wedges and finishing off with my jean jacket.

Since having my daughter I felt that I hadn't changed much but to others they said I had. Some changes were that I grew a little taller, my body looked to have gotten more curves, my hair was now down to the middle of my back and in a long layered haircut with face shaping in the front which took a little convincing from Bridgette for me to do. I did what I could to maintain fit and it seems that it showed.

Once I had my book bag and purse along with making sure Serenity had even before we finally headed out.

I was suppose to have Serenity at school before 8:30 I hope her teacher is understanding since it's the first day.

Waiting for the light to change before we crossed I felt the grip on my hand get tighter, looking down I see the sad and nervous expression on Serenity's little face.

" Hey what's wrong honey? " I asked looking up to see the signal to walk appear allowing us to cross, " I'm scared " answers Serenity's little voice her eyes shining with tears and her little lips making a pout.

I had a feeling this would happen but even myself I felt sad ( as well as overwhelmed ), " sweetie we've talked about this it's scary at first but your gonna have fun " I explained as we got to the other side seeing the school coming into view, " also your teacher is very nice and you'll make friends too " I added trying to ensure her that it was going to be fun.

Looking up to me" but I wanna stay with you mommy " she breathed on the verge of crying .

As we arrived at the school we walked up to the front door, kneeling down to her level I hold both her hands.

Taking a breath I smile at her " I know you do but once school is done I'm gonna come right here and pick you up " I said in hopes it will make her smile " promise " she asks slowly smiling again, " I promise now let's go to school " I said opening the building doors.

Making our way down the hallway I keep an eye out for the classroom which for beginners was called the turtle but then I immediately notice a cute bright sign on the door saying...

" WELCOME TURTLE CLASS "

I couldn't help but giggle thinking now how adorable it sounds, as we enter the room all the other kids were inside enjoying different activities from playing with blocks, colouring/drawing, sliding on the indoor slide or talking with one another.

Just then a young women walked over to us, she red hair in small pigtails along with a flower pin and wearing a green apron over her outfit.

" Hello there my name is Zoe I'm the turtle class teacher " she greets holding her hand out " hello, nice to meet you I'm Courtney " I answer shaking her hand, " I'm so sorry we're late we had quite the morning " I explained nervously.

Zoe smiles, " it's no problem I got a little worried when I did name call thinking we're short one student " she replied looking at the other kids, " I promise tomorrow we won't be late " I said noticing Serenity hiding behind my leg both her arms secured around my right leg. We both giggle looking at her attempt at hiding.

" Hi there you must be Serenity " asks Zoe calmly getting on her knees, " would you like me to introduce you to your class " I was amazed how patient, loving and understanding Zoe was.

Serenity finally turned to look at Zoe she wasn't sure to answer but when she saw me smiling at her for encouragement she slowly stepped out and stood between us.

Holding my hand Serenity looked up at me then looked to Zoe " okay " she answers shyly while her other hand gripped the hem of her blue dress.

Clapping her hands together Zoe looks towards the class " Everyone can I have your attention please eyes on me " announced Zoe making everyone stop and pay attention to the front.

" Thank you now I know we did name calls but we actually have a new friend joining us so please everyone let's welcome Serenity " she announced gesturing to her " let's say hi to her".

" Hi Serenity " said all the kids at the same time, it was so cute my heart melted.

" Hi " answers Serenity waving at everyone, " see everyone is nice honey " I said bending down a little, " yeah" she replied looking calmer, " okay I have to go but remember I'll pick you up right after school " I said reminding her of my promise.

" Okay mommy " she answered as I give her one more hug before I had to go to school myself.

Once I was outside walking to the crosswalk I exhale heavily followed by a tear sliding down my face, wiping it away I guess it's real my baby was growing up fast.

" Come on Courtney your both doing great " I breathed before walking to school.

Duncan POV

2:30pm

It was another busy day today at the shop I knew my place was the best in town but how is it that we get 10 car jobs in one morning and still more to go.

I already told Joey to stop taking more jobs with the line up practically down the block with parked cars. It was great for business but heavy on all of us I think we might have to stay open late this whole week. Only thing about this it was killing me to have to turn away whoever called in to get a custom today. We had oil changes, brake checks and tires changes til the end of the week.

My team was awesome when I took over most of the former team stayed but I also hired more guys and good thing I did other wise we would never get finished. Once word got out of how great our services were we started getting more business especially when it came to customized motors which was a huge thing for bike and low rider owners who would come to me for the works.

I was currently in the middle of my 8th tire change today but still had 6 more to go, " Hey how many more to go? " I shout out to Joey who was assisting in an oil change on a truck behind me, " you ain't gonna like it but we still got 12 cars to go " he answers looking up from under the hood.

( AN: Joey Description : 5'9 in height, age: 32, has fair skin, medium build, shoulder length dirty blonde hair thats always tied back. He's been into cars since he was a teenager he thinks of himself as a funny guy )

Groaning from hearing his answer I continue securing the tires, " alright this ones done can someone move it and bring me the next one " I said putting down the lug wrench on a tool chest beside me, " just need to use the washroom " I announce before walking away from the floor and to the back.

Once inside the staff bathroom which I didn't need to use at all I took a few moments to breath. I often question myself if I was doing enough for this place when I got word from the lawyer I was surprised at first considering that whenever a lawyer is involved I'm in trouble but it was the other way around. The guys keep telling me it's great to have a leader again and that someway it felt like I've been here all along.

Staring at my reflection in the mirror I hadn't changed much well maybe a bit. While in jail I grew a couple more inches but along with working out I have now a fit build body. I still had my ear piercings but I decided to get rid of my nose piercing.

Since I was unable to maintain my green Mohawk I let my hair grow out, I now have a skin fade with the top part sleeked back. And lastly I still had the same soul patch since TDI, definitely wasn't going to let that go yet. I bring my left hand up to where my former eyebrow piercing use to be, I could still remember the sting of it getting ripped out.

It took 3 stitches to close it not too bad but since then I decided to not re - pierce it, that memory stays in the past along with the pain.

Resting my hands on both sides of the sink I slowly inhale then slowly exhale, " alright back to work " I say to myself before exiting.

Before I even make it out to the floor I hear loud whistling and howling sounds coming from the front of the shop looking up to see there standing Tony and Tye, rolling my eyes I go see what mischief there getting into.

" Hey we got work to do " I said walking up to the dynamic duo of my team, " we're just taking a 10 minute breather boss " answered Tye looking back to the sidewalks.

Standing beside them I cross my arms over my chest, " a break huh? " I ask suspiciously waiting to see what they were up to, suddenly Tony whistled loud " hey little lady " he calls out at a random women walking past us completely ignoring the call.

Rolling my eyes at the action taking place, " alright you animals get back to work " I said walking back inside " oh come on Duncan you telling us you never called out on chicks? " asks Tye following me inside, " when I was 14 " I answer trying not to laugh.

Tye then smiles " see and was it not fun to do " he asks me as I pop open the hood to a Jeep, " it was stupid then and stupid now " I answer walking back to the front of the car to open and set the hood. I've looked back on everything I did when I was a stupid delinquent teenager now I'm just trying to make peace.

As I was looking for the down on the motor the guys got more louder then before, once again annoying whoever it was passing by I swear if one of those idiots gets smacked then I'm gonna have one good laugh.

" Boss you gotta come see this one " said Tony grabbing my shoulders and pulling me away from the car.

Trying to push my converse covered heels to the ground Tony still managed to get me to the front, " hey I was actually workin... " I stop talking to see right by the crosswalk waiting to cross was a lady with a very curvy figure and I had to admit a great pair of legs.

Her back was currently facing us which was not bad because I couldn't resist checking her ass out and it was a view.

Feeling my shoulders get squeezed " that's perfection " said Tony in awe as he continued to look, " a work of art at it's finest " adds Tye looking up and down at her body. Getting a nudge from Tony I look back at him " just one call and we go back to work " he said smiling along with Tye trying to hold in his laugh.

I know I'll regret this but if it'll shut them up I'll do this only once, I stepped out in front of the guys then put two fingers in my mouth and whistled loud enough to hear.

" Hey baby those are some nice curves you got, do you mind if I explore them sometime " I said smiling " maybe even those beautiful legs too " I added hearing the guys howl behind me.

Turning my head to wink at the guys...

" Duncan? "

My eyes open up to the max recognizing the one voice that I never forgot. Turning to look there standing with a shocked expression was...

" C-Courtney "
