Hi all,
Posting the chapter a little early.
So this chapter is where the Pokemon is revealed. I know there are a lot of opinions on what should be his first Pokemon. Emerald is my favourite Pokemon game, so it's a Hoenn native. No Legendary Pokemon either, although I was tempted. No flames, please.
Shout out to {Anthony Maxwell, Lofton Varner and Steve Miles} for becoming patrons. Cheers.

Chapter 8
"I wanted to ride the Pidgeot," Abigail pouted.
"Don't forget about me, Abby," Jason protested. "I would have missed out if you had not taken a car."
Abigail narrowed her eyes. "Only Lucas gets to call me Abby."
Jason turned to Lucas, who sat with the other two in the car's backseat. "Lucas, your sister is being mean."
"I've taught you well, my apprentice," Lucas raised a hand, and Abigail completed the high five. He was careful not to drop the egg in his other hand. His grandfather suggested he bring it along to have Professor Oak look at it and give his opinion.
Grandad drove them to Professor Oak's Laboratory. The lab's responsibility was to oversee the huge sprawling Pallet Town Reserve that existed just outside the Western borders of the town.
Professor Oak and his team cared for the many Pokemon calling it home. Most of them were Pokemon who had lost their owner or people who abandoned them. But a considerable breeding program was also responsible for supplying trainers with starter Pokemon. They raise the Pokemon to be docile and more susceptible to bonding with people. Baby Pokemon were a lot easier to work with because their power was at its lowest, and they didn't suffer the ill effects of Red Energy. Although breeding Pokemon was still in its infancy, it suffered many setbacks in producing a steady supply of eggs. That was one of Professor Oak's main areas of research.
As they approached, Lucas could see that massive walls and an enormous gate enclosed the Pallet Town Reserve. They passed a parking lot filled with cars at the main entrance and turned down a side road that led to another gateway where security waited for them. After a brief security check, the car drove forward.
A minute later, they approached a sprawling structure of steel and glass. It seemed an odd material choice for a building surrounded by potentially destructive Pokemon. The building was designed in a 'U' shape with a picturesque garden in the middle.
Tobias parked the car, and they all got out. Waiting ahead of them was an old man who was clearly Professor Oak. He looked similar to the anime, with short grey hair and heavy brows, wearing his typical lab coat.
"Dude, hottie alert," Jason nudged him. He was talking about the young woman standing beside Professor Oak.
The young woman was about two or three years older than him and certainly cute enough. She was clearly irritated as she tapped one foot on the ground.
By the looks of her apparel, a pair of stained overalls and boots, she had work to do elsewhere. Her golden hair was tied back casually and fell over her shoulders, hinting at a practical nature.
Professor Oak stepped forward. "Tobias, it has been a long time. How have you been?"
Tobias stepped forward and shook his hand. "Busy, like always. I imagine you are the same."
"Indeed," Oak smiled. "But let's make introductions. I am Professor Samuel Oak, and this is my granddaughter, Daisy." The young woman waved at the four visitors. "Daisy, this is Tobias Walker, the Minister of Defence and former Kanto Champion. Are these your grandchildren?"
"Only the cute ones," Tobias replied bluntly. Jason hung his head, and Abigail giggled. "This is Lucas, who recently recovered from a coma. The little darling is Abigail. Jason is Lucas's friend."
"It's nice to meet you all," Oak said. "I heard about your recovery, Lucas. I'm glad your doing better."
"So am I," Lucas grinned.
"Is that your egg?" Oak nodded at the egg Lucas carried in his arms.
Lucas nodded and passed over the egg, and Professor Oak lifted it to inspect it closer. Jason crept up to Daisy and tried conversing with her, but she didn't appear interested. Grandad had already shot down his chances. As if he had any chance in the first place.
"Interesting. I can tell you take care of this egg," Oak said. "Did you know where your parents got it from?"
Lucas hesitated, but Tobias placed his hand on his shoulder. "You can trust him."
"I don't know. Somebody left it for me in the hospital," Lucas said. "It wasn't from my parents."
"Hmm, best not go advertising that around. Do not tell anyway about this, Daisy."
'Okay, grandad." Daisy stepped closer, and her inquisitive green eyes peered at the egg closely. She caught Lucas looking at her, and she smiled at him.
Lucas returned the smile and turned back to Professor Oak. The old man had an odd expression on his face. "Is there something wrong?"
"Lucas, did the egg always have these purple blemishes?"
"No, it used to be entirely yellow. I assumed it was part of the process of hatching an egg," Lucas shrugged. "It has only a few days left."
"Do you mind if I can take the egg to my lab and do a test? No harm will come to it, I promise."
Lucas could feel the Pokemon inside his mind objecting strenuously to being separated. He soothed it quietly. "Sure, but I will have to come with you. My Pokemon does not want to be separated from me."
"You're already bonded?" Oak said. "Then please join me in the lab." He turned to Daisy. "Can you take the other two on a tour of the Reserve?"
Daisy nodded, walked up to Abigail and held out a hand. "Hello, Abigail. Do you want to see the rest of this place?"
Abigail nodded and placed her hand in Daisy's. They walked off with Jason following along like a lost puppy.
Lucas followed Professor Oak and his grandfather inside and through the building's hallways. He peered inside rooms as they walked by and saw other scientists amid experiments or sitting at their desks. It looked more casual than he expected, with plenty of cushy furniture and lush greenery scattered around the place, offering a comfortable vibe.
Professor Oak stopped at the door and slid a keycard into the slot. The door opened, and they stepped into an ample space filled with various pieces of equipment that Lucas couldn't identify if he tried. A desk was buried under a mess of paper and folders in the corner of the room.
Lucas was not worried about Professor Oak discovering any anomalies with his egg. As far as he was aware, there was no way to discern the type of energy in the Aura Seed. He could always use {Energy Shroud} on his Pokemon if necessary because they share a bond; he could use the skill on his Pokemon. However, what about when the egg hatched? Would there be any signs he bonded with the Pokemon with Purple Energy?
Professor Oak placed the egg onto a receptacle next to a computer. He attached a few electrodes around the egg.
Lucas moved up next to him and watched him curiously. "So, what are you looking for?"
"Even though a Pokemon doesn't form its physical body until it hatches," Oak said, "the type of Pokemon is determined by its parents. The colour of the egg usually reflects what kind of Pokemon to expect. However, the egg is changing, and I want to test what kind of energy it's emitting."
Lucas wanted to smack himself for being naive. Of course, his Pokemon would not be typical.
Tobias walked forward. "What are you saying? That it is mutating?"
Pokemon Oak tapped on the keyboard and stared at the screen momentarily. "Mutating? Not exactly. The egg is changing the type of Pokemon it wants to be by itself. Do you see here?" Professor Oak pointed at the screen, which depicted the egg glowing a vibrant yellow with currents of electricity sparking off the surface. There were purple spots as well, which matched the real egg perfectly. "This machine can tell what kind of type energy the Pokemon is generating. Most of it is electric, but some psychic-type energy is breaking through. "
"So it's a dual type?" Tobias asked doubtfully. "A native Pokemon from another region?"
Professor Oak shook his head. "It's still too soon to say what it will end up being. It will be interesting to see if the psychic-type energy spreads over the next few days and to what degree. Will it retain the electric type? Or would it add another type? Or be completely psychic? I would have said before that this egg would be a Pichu, Pikachu or maybe an Eleckid. But with this anomaly, we will have to wait and see until it hatches before we find out for sure."
What are you doing? Lucas asked his Pokemon over the bond.
He got a muted response of stubbornness, and Lucas shook his head. It seemed the Pokemon wanted to choose its own path, including the form it wanted to take. How was this possible? Was it because of his Purple Energy? Or because the egg came from the 'System?'
Professor Oak grabbed Lucas by the shoulders and shook him. "Lucas, I want to be there when the egg hatches. Can you bring the egg here the day it does? We may witness something historical here."
Lucas rubbed his head sheepishly. "Actually, Jason and I were going to use the egg hatching to launch our channel on Tweak. If you allow us to set a camera in here so we can livestream the event, I don't see any problem."
"Hmm, not a bad idea. I can get my fellow Professors to join in on the fun. You have my permission to set up a livestream on the hatching day." Oak turned back to the computer. "I must show the data to my colleagues."
"Can I take my egg back now?" Lucas asked. Professor Oak nodded absently.
Lucas took the egg out of the receptacle and held it in his arms. Tobias steered him out of the lab. "Come on; we may as well go explore. Oak always is unresponsive when he gets like this."
They stepped outside. "Let's follow the road the others took," Tobias said. "It leads to the main public area where they show off the Pokemon."
They followed the road past a line of trees until they reached an intersection with signs displaying the directions for the various Pokemon habitats.
"Which way do you think they went?" Tobias asked.
Lucas considered what Pokemon Abigail would like to see first and recalled that canine Pokemon were her favourite. It was okay; he wouldn't hold it against her. As long as she didn't start calling them Bruno.
He pointed to the right, which led to the canine habitat and started walking.
A loud explosion sounded further down as they approached the fence line bordering the habitat.
"Come on," Tobias frowned. "It looks like there is trouble."
They began running towards the explosion and passed a few people running away, screaming in panic. Tobias jumped the fence effortlessly, and Lucas scrambled after him and landed on the other side. They were in the grassy meadow that was the Arcanine and Growlithe territory. Ahead of him was a sloping hill, and he could hear the sounds of a battle behind it and a few screams.
"Abigail!" Lucas shouted, recognising her voice and began running forward after Tobias. His grandad took a Pokeball off his belt and released a Pokemon.
Pidgeot appeared, flew over the hill instantly, and joined the battle on the other side. Lucas and his grandad crested the hill and saw a scene of chaos.
A Gengar was attacking two of the three Arcanine. Dark energy met fire energy in mid-air and exploded, sending shock waves like a bomb detonating. The ground was marred with small craters, and the grass was ashen and smouldering with small flames.
The third Arcanine was trying to lead the pack of Growlithe away from the battle, along with three familiar figures and a Kadabra that was trying to reflect stray fire that came their way. Their progress was slow, though, as the Gengar was indiscriminate in its attacks as it kept spamming dark energy that fanned out in a wave and looked to hit multiple targets. Jason appeared to have suffered some damage as he was limping.
Pidgeot screeched and flared her wings above the Gengar and sent a series of sharp wind blades that distorted the air as it rocketed straight for the Gengar. The Ghost Pokemon recognised the danger and flew underneath the attack in time, only to be met by two flamethrowers to the face courtesy of the two Arcanine. The Gengar screamed, and a cloak of Red Energy surrounded its body as it fired a giant dark ball of energy at the ground in front of the two Arcanine. They tried to avoid the attack but didn't quite manage and were sent flying.
Tobias and Lucas sprinted down the hill. They were almost among the pack retreating when the two Arcanine flew in their direction. Kadabra raised its spoon, and {Telekinesis} caught the two in mid-air. Meanwhile, the Gengar had turned its attention to the Pidgeot, still in the air, sending more wind blades down at the Gengar. Most of her physical attacks were ineffective against the Ghost Pokemon, so it had to keep its distance. However, it kept Gengar occupied as the wind tore into the ground brutally.
Tobias picked up the nearest two people to him, Abigail and the wounded Jason, carrying them over his shoulder while running back up the hill. Everything seemed in control now as the Gengar couldn't do anything to the much stronger Pidgeot. Daisy and Lucas continued to retreat with the Kadabra when Lucas felt a warning ripple over his bond. He had left the egg on the hill, but something attracted its notice, and it urgently called out to Lucas.
A second Gengar appeared behind Daisy, and Kadabra cried out in alarm. Lucas pushed Daisy out of the way, and Gengar entered his body, trying to possess him. Lucas screamed and fell to the ground as a rush of memories assaulted him.
"I'm going to need your help, you two," Adrian said to his two Haunters.
"Haunter," they cried and flew circles around Adrian. He was standing in a bedroom, facing an empty wall next to the closet.
"I need you to hide this behind the wall," Adrian said, holding a folder.
Haunter grabbed the folder, went insubstantial and floated into the wall. It returned without the folder.
"I got myself into some serious mess, and I don't know if I'm going to be able to survive." This got a severe reaction from the Haunters as they agitatedly waved their hands.
"I deserve it after what I did to the kid. Listen, if something happens to me, I want you to bring the kid here and give him the folder. Don't give it to anyone else."
The two Haunters reluctantly agreed.
Lucas writhed on the ground, and dimly he could hear his grandad calling out to him. But another memory surfaced, and his voice faded away.
The two Haunters had waited at home for their owner to summon them. Then they felt their owner's bond snap and cried out in pain. They fled the apartment and flew around the area until they came across their owner's remains in the crumpled ruins of his car. Wailing in grief and anger, the Red energy rose in them.

Lucas opened his eyes and saw concerned faces peering down at him. He felt a limpet attached to his waist and patted Abigail's head.
Abigail sniffed and blinked away her tears. "Big brother?"
"Hey, where's the funeral?" Lucas asked. "No more tears, okay?"
Abigail hugged him and cried even harder. Daisy, Jason and Tobias had relieved looks on their faces.
"Thanks for saving me from a painful ordeal," Daisy hugged his other side, her soft curves pressing against his side.
"Worth it," Lucas stated.
"Damn it, bro. Why do you have to steal all my thunder," Jason mumbled. He looked a little pale.
"Are you okay?" Lucas asked.
"I'm fine," Jason waved dismissively. "It's just a flesh wound." He rolled his pants leg and spotted the nasty gash seeping blood. Jason fainted.
Tobias sighed in exasperation. "Are you sure you want this sissy tagging along on your Pokemon Journey?"
Lucas sat up the girls let go of him. Scattered around them was the Growlithe pack with the three Arcanine amongst them.
"What happened to the Gengars?"
"Pidgeot took care of one of them," Tobias said. "The other fled your body after trying to possess you and fainted. Must not like the way you smelled. I captured both of them in Pokeballs."
"Captured them? They are your Pokemon now?"
Tobias took out a Pokeball different from the usual red and white. This one was completely white. "This is a Neutral Pokeball. It doesn't bond the Pokemon like the other Pokeball. We use them to catch Pokemon for new trainers and to capture misbehaving Pokemon. There are also special cases where the person has an egg, and they bond before they hatch. You can have this one." Tobias handed him the ball.
Lucas thanked him. He couldn't help but recall the memory of the Haunters and couldn't help but feel sorry for them. They couldn't help that their human was so flawed. Two Haunters surprised him, and both had evolved into Gengar. Had their owner's death pushed them that far? Why did they attack this place? Were they looking to hurt him but lost their senses and ended up here?
At least he got a clear direction to finish the quest. He would have to finish it after his egg had hatched.
"Let's get out of here," Tobias said. "Your parents are going to kill me for getting you hurt again."
"I'm completely fine," Lucas protested, standing up and jumping around to prove his point. "See, no need to tell my parents."
"Dummy," Abigail stated.

March 20th, 1998
A few days later.
Inside Professor Oak's Lab, a few people were busy setting up an area for Lucas's big debut. After telling Jason about his deal with Professor Oak, they quickly set up a Tweak account under the pseudonym 'PokeLife'. They began promoting the stream with a few clickbait tags such as; Professor Oak, Egg Hatching, Unique egg mutation, and such; they had generated a lot of interest. Most of it was vitriol. However, when other Professors started promoting the stream, people realised that it wasn't fake. They quickly generated a few thousand interested viewers waiting for it to go live.
Lucas sat on a chair in front of a video camera with Professor Oak's laboratory in the background. In his arms was the Pokemon Egg that had wholly transformed from yellow to purple with some pink spots. It was only a few hours away from hatching. His Pokemon could estimate its arrival time to a few minutes, making it easier to schedule.
Jason stood behind the fixed camera with Sophia and Abigail. He held up a hand to indicate five minutes, and Lucas nodded. He inspected the laptop next to him to ensure everything was working correctly.
Are you ready to make your big splash, buddy?
A positive affirmation came back over the bond, and Lucas smiled. He was a little nervous, but not as much as he had thought he would be at the idea of going in front of thousands of viewers. By the time the hatching began, Lucas had expected the number of viewers would surpass ten thousand. That was the power of promoting big names like Professor Oak; otherwise, the crowd would be much smaller.
Jason started counting down, and Lucas looked at the camera with a relaxed smile. Jason signalled thumbs up, and Lucas began.
"Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the PokeLife channel. My name is Lucas and let me tell you about myself….."
Lucas told an abbreviated version of his past. He didn't want to linger on this subject too long as it made him uncomfortable, and he didn't want to appear as if he was trying to milk sympathy.
"All right, that's enough about my sordid history. Do you know where I'm sitting? It's Professor Oak's laboratory. I only get this opportunity because my Pokemon egg is going through an unusual change. Jason, if you bring the graphic up on the screen, please."
Jason brought up pictures of the egg slowly changing colour over the last few days. Lucas looked at the chat and noticed that he already had dozens of followers.
"Thanks for all the follows, everyone. There are too many followers to name you individually, but I appreciate your support. Now, why don't I take some questions from chat?"
Lucas browsed the chat and chose a few at random.
MadamPeach: Like, wuts ur ideal kind of woman? Do u like older women?
"I would like to remind Madam Peach that I am still a minor and am currently supervised by my mother."
Phantom_pains: Are u sure this is legit? How do we know u didn't just paint the egg?
"Professor Oak will answer that question shortly."
Bruno_the_Destroyer: Woof?
Lucas's eyebrows twitched at that last name. "Okay, who let their canine Pokemon enter the chat?"
An explosion in chat occurred, and Lucas had to look away from all the dizzying amount of responses and follows he received.
"Okay, guys. It's time to get the actual show on the road. I'm sure the next person needs no introduction; please welcome Professor Oak!"
Professor Oak walked into view and sat in the seat next to Lucas. He waved at the camera and began talking with Lucas. Professor Oak had credibility that Lucas did not, and the viewers started to skyrocket when he showed proof of his claims.
They discussed various topics around Pokemon eggs and breeding for the next couple of hours. Occasionally, they would get a visit from another Professor who entered the discussion. The viewership had exploded to over fifteen thousand in no time, and they already had seven hundred and fifty followers.
Lucas got a mental prod from his egg, and a huge smile appeared. "Everyone, it's beginning. I'm going to place the egg on the ground, and let's see what Pokemon emerges."
Jason focused the camera on the ground where Lucas kneeled next to the egg. Soon, a white glow appeared, and Lucas held his hand over his eyes until it disappeared.
"Ralts," the Pokemon trilled
Lucas reached out and picked up the humanoid Pokemon. Ralts hugged him softly, and it amazed him how incredibly cuddly the Pokemon felt in his arms. It had thin arms and legs, and a wispy extension trailed behind it like a nightgown. Ralts bumped its green hair against his and peered at him from round pinkish-red eyes.
"Oh my, it's the psychic-fairy type Pokemon; Ralts, from the Hoenn region," Oak exclaimed.

Lucas was barraged with several notifications that he wanted to check out immediately, but he reminded himself that he was still live streaming.
Lucas stood up and waved to the crowd. Ralts was a champion and managed a wave as well.
"Remember to capture him with a Pokeball," Oak reminded him.
Lucas took out the Neutral Pokeball and pointed it at Ralts. "Don't worry, buddy; I'm just sending you home for a moment. I will bring you straight back." He pressed the button, and Ralts disappeared in a flash of red. Lucas repeated the action, and Ralts returned.
Professor Oak walked over and inspected Ralts. "There we have it, folks. A psychic-fairy Pokemon has hatched from what was originally an electric-type egg. Is this a fluke? Or is this a new stage in evolution for Pokemon? I hope you're incredibly excited, just like I am."
Lucas picked him up and faced the camera again.
"Well, you heard Professor Oak. What do you think? Did you enjoy the livestream? Thank you for the follows. Join us in a few days for our next stream. Details and time will be posted tomorrow. See you later."
Jason signalled the stream had ended, and Lucas collapsed in the chair in exhaustion. Professor Oak patted him on the shoulder before excusing himself.
Abigail ran over with Sophia and Jason following behind. She held out her arms for Ralts, and Lucas handed him over to Abigail. Ralts went easily enough, recognising the girl from when it was in the egg.
"Oh man, that couldn't have gone better if you tried," Jason yelled excitedly.
"Congratulations, Lucas. You were amazing." Sophia hugged him. She patted the Ralts on the head and the Pokemon trilled in reply.
"We need to do a few more streams, and I guarantee we will make an affiliate," Jason enthused.
"I don't know who that woman was, but she sure had the nerve," Sophia frowned.
"Relax, Mrs Walker. Older women are the b…." Jason flinched when Lucas stepped on his foot.
"Do you have a filter?" Lucas asked. Sophia merely chuckled and walked away.
"I'm going to edit the video and put it up on Poketube," Jason said. "Got to strike while the iron is hot. It was nice meeting you, Ralts. Oh, that reminds me, will you give him a name?"
"We have decided already," Lucas said. "His name is Dante." Dante had already revealed to him that he would be a male Pokemon.
"I like it," Abigail said. "Dante."
"Me too," Jason added. "Well, back to business." Jason walked off, and Abigail started playing with Ralts.
Before he could sit down again, he was disturbed by another two boys approaching.
"Wow, what a cool Pokemon," Ash Ketchum exclaimed.
"Meh, I've seen better," Gary Oak said cockily.
"Hello, little brats. What are you doing here?"
Gary scowled at him. "None of your business."
"We are hunting Team Rocket," Ash said.
"Dude, will you be quiet," Gary shook his head and ran off.
"That kid needs a spanking," Lucas chuckled.
"Wait, I have something to say to you," Ash pointed at him. "Stay away from Daisy. I will marry her when I get older."
Lucas patted Ash on the head. "I'm sorry, mate. It's just not going to happen. You see, you're cursed."
"What!?"
"You're cursed to stop ageing at ten years old," Lucas said sadly. "You will never be able to have a girlfriend. At least you get to live forever."
Ash walked off confused, and Lucas congratulated himself on delivering the news fairly and objectively.
Lucas sat down and drank some water while discreetly checking the new notifications. His eyebrows raised, and he realised that his options had increased significantly. He decided to explore the new functions.

The Pokedex was straightforward. It acted like a bestiary that kept all the information on Pokemon he {Observed} in one place. It would be a good reference if there was something he didn't remember.
The Move Tutor was more interesting. Three tabs were under the function, and they all served different purposes.
'{Move Tutor}'

Ralts
Growl | Normal/Status | Power: - | [5 Aura | 1%
Disarming Voice | Fairy/Special | Power: - | [6 Aura | 1%

The first tab listed the progression of the Pokemon's {Moves}.
Even though Pokemon can learn [Moves} by levelling up or other means, it doesn't mean it is fully understood. This tab shows the progress of the move and when it's mastered.
Furthermore, the player is rewarded with 1 Tutor Point (TP) for every move mastered for every Pokemon. Which led to the second tab, where you can purchase Tutor Moves with TP for the Pokemon to learn. The last tab simply displayed a list of the {Moves} he had unlocked.
Lucas broke out of his thoughts when Daisy walked up to him. It was then he got a brilliant idea. He looked at his new quest and smiled evilly.
"Daisy, how many different types of Pokemon are on the Reserve?"
Time to earn some easy experience points.

A few hours later, Lucas sported a massive grin on his face. Daisy had given him the complete tour of the Reserve, and he had managed to get forty-one Pokemon scanned and towards his quest completion. There were a few Pokemon he couldn't {Observe} because of the level restrictions, but he had profited enormously.
He earned 4100 experience points, 4 Perception points and 410 Pokedollars.

Now that Dante had hatched, Lucas could start training him. There was also the quest he had been putting off; that was his next priority. There was a slight difficulty in completing it, though. If dad was correct and someone was out there keeping an eye on him, he couldn't enter Adrian Pott's apartment and grab the folder. There was some preparation he needed to do first.
Tell me what you think. Yes, Ralts may be a very common choice in the end, but I love Gallade, so spare me my indulgence.
Cheers.
