Hello guys. I know don't be mad at me, it's been a year since I updated but one moment I was very into pride and prejudice, and then it changed into Harry Potter, but I will start updating more often.
Darcy Pov.
"You read my letter, then what?"
"Nothing, you left, and I didn't see you until August, I was doing a tour of the north with my Aunt and Uncle Gardiner, my Aunt Madeline being from Lambton wanted to visit again."
"Your uncle in trade?"—Darcy asked cautiously
"Do not sound so arrogant, William. It's because of them we saw each other again. You love Uncle Edward; you call him Uncle Ed, and he calls you Will when he's not calling you son. The Gardiner's are welcome in Pemberley anytime, either just my aunt or uncle or with all their children. We are actually sponsoring my oldest cousin Sophia, we sent her to the same lady school Georgiana attended, and we will be doing the same with Lucy, there has been discussion of sending the boys to Eton."
Darcy could not believe what Elizabeth was saying. His father, though a nice man, had always prided that Darcy Fortune was from gentry land, and now he was involved in trade. Not only that, he was doing the same thing his father had done by sponsoring none blood relations. Something he said he wouldn't do, giving the fiasco he had to witness.
"Do I have business with him?"
"Yes, as Bingley and other associates. Do not concern yourself, your name is not involved, only your money. We have come to accept that London is suffering a change and Uncle Edward is capable of moving with the change. Our cousin Richard is also in the investment…"
Darcy perked up—"Richard is alive?"
"He is…oh I'm sorry my dear, I didn't realize that was one of your concerns. The war left him certain sequels, but he's fine. Anyone else your concern with their safety?"
"Georgiana?"
Elizabeth smiled kindly—"She's well and Happy"
Darcy frowned. He didn't want to believe she was married, she was still too young. –"Very well, keep going, please."
Elizabeth nodded—"We have been able to achieve some rather successful income."
"How successful?"
"Well, the ton still says you have 10,000 pounds a year, though last season there were rumours that you now have a possible rent of 13,000 pound a year but in reality we are rounding up to 19,000 pounds"
Darcy's eyes widened—"A year?"
"Yes, love and all that from five years of investments. All through my poor connections"—she teased him, knowing that at the moment his mind was still six years behind.
Darcy ignored her—"Anything else I need to know?"
"A few things, we have a small change in properties, and other small investment but no business talking, doctor orders. And I'm sure you will want to speak with your steward"
"Yes, you are right, and I'm sure you will be there"
"If you want me there, yes"—Elizabeth saw the change in his expression—"What's wrong, dear?"
"My home feels different"
Elizabeth smiled sadly, her heart breaking a little—"It's still a home, Will. The beauty and greatness of Pemberley is still the same, is just a little louder. Your connections have increase and…"—Elizabeth sigh—"You did lose a few friends because of our marriage, but you decided to give them the cut directly."
That was what Darcy feared, he knew that certain of his friends had married women with titles and many of them would not appreciate having to force their wives to speak with someone of low status as they would have said.
Similarly, he would not allow his wife to be disrespected, if he was the one who gave the cut it had to have been for something serious. –The Matlock's, my godfather and my uncle Darcy, supported our marriage?
Elizabeth smiled - "Yes, from the beginning, we had to convince your godfather but after two dinners he himself told you that even if he had wanted connections he was happy that it was love and not interest"
Darcy relaxed and nodded.
"Our marriage was not much of a disadvantage as you believed"
Darcy heard the apprehensive in her voice.—"I know that, Elizabeth. My reluctance of sharing my admiration for you wasn't because I was ashamed of you, but I had a duty with my legacy and my Sister's role in society."
"I know, my love, but let's go back to the story."
"Yes, when we met again was it in Lambton?"
"No. We met here. My aunt wanted to see the house, and I was terrified I would find you and think ill of me. I did not want you to believe I was mocking you, but when we got here, Mrs. Reynolds told us you were in London. What Mrs. Reynolds did not know was you had arrived earlier and no one had noticed. Since she believed you were gone, we tour the house. I was touring the grounds when we ran into each other"
Darcy chuckled—"How inconvenient for you"
"Oh, I was mortified. I wanted to run as fast as I could. But you were so happy to see me. You invited us for tea and fishing. The next day you introduce me to your sister and reacquainted with the Bingley's, The reunion only lasted a few days, I had to leave, but I've always believed that if I hadn't left, we would have married much sooner."
So she left, did I chase her all over England?—"You ran in mortification?"
"No."—Se laughed—"Worse, on our third day, when I returned to the Inn, I received a letter from Jane. My sister Lydia had gone to Brighton, and she eloped."
Darcy's eyes got wide. The ruin, that's why she married him? Or was that why he married her? He turned to see Elizabeth, who had fallen silent.
"Lydia eloped with Wickham."
"With Wickham."— Darcy paled, that snake was his brother by marriage.
"That man, compromised her? Do I force her? Had he been in contact with her? For God's sake, Elizabeth, tell me I haven't had that snake in my dining room, along with my sister. That I have not hosted him"
" No, no. Calm yourself, my love. He did compromise her. He did not force her, he did ruin her. And I have never allowed him to be anywhere near Georgiana. You have to not concern yourself. Unfortunately, Lydia discovered the kind of men she married a year after the consummation of it. She was threatened by my father that he was to stay away from us if she ever wanted to be hosted."
"He married a girl with no connections, no fortune? That doesn't sound like him"
"Because it's not him, you were there when I read the letter, my uncle immediately returned to London to find them and I returned to Longbourn. You said goodbye so quickly that I thought you were disgusted, but in reality you are showing me again what kind of man you were."
"What kind of men am I ?"
"An honourable man. You went looking for them, you used Richard to help you, and you forced them to marry."
Darcy sighed internally. He was very well aware that he didn't force him to do anything, most likely pay him. He jumped when he felt Elizabeth fingers, tracing the frown on his forehead.
"Stop frowning. I know you paid him. You've never talked about that day, you and my uncle paid him enough, I think it was a total of £10,000 or more."
A bitter chuckle escaped him.
"Nobody told me what you had done; you asked that your involvement not be revealed. And I couldn't talk to anyone, it was my secret, but Lydia told me when she visited Longbourn and by then I discovered that my feelings for you had already changed, I had been reliving our meetings for weeks and I realized that I had severely judged you. While you were in London, you spoke with Charles about my sister, and he immediately came to ask for her hand"
Darcy closed his eyes and he started massaging his temple.—"Was he awfully crossed with me."
That made Elizabeth laugh.—"Oh, I do not know. That is something that you and Charles have never spoken about. We just know that it was a man to man conversation, you appeared in Longbourn with Charles and didn't say a single word to each other before you were gone"
"It sounds like an awful headache."
"Headache and many sleepless nights"
For a moment, they were both silent and Darcy looked at her, she looked beautiful with a few curls out of place, but sad, lost in memories. He believed he remembered the anxiousness of those few weeks. Perhaps it was a good thing he remembered—"I believe I remember"— He said, and she turned around to look at him with hope—"Calm down, dear."- He said. -"I believe I remember the feelings of those few weeks. Many anxious days"
"They were, I cried in silence. I couldn't ruin my dear Jane's Happiness, but then that changed very quickly when your beloved Aunt pardon me, our beloved aunt Lady Catherine arrived at very indecent hours"
"She arrived in Netherfield?"
"No, no, she arrived at Longbourn."
"Was she truly horrible?"
"Horrible, she insulted me, shamed me. I can't recall of her exact words, but I do remember she accused me of using my arts and allurements to forget what you owe to yourself. And then she proceeded to remind me that you were engaged to Anne and that our alliance will be a disgrace. And that the shades of Pemberley were to be polluted. Oh, look at that. I do remember"— she told him, sarcastically. –"And then she tried to make me promise her that I would not accept any engagement offerings from you."
Darcy was red with anger. He stood up, making Elizabeth jump. –"She who praises decorum and manners, what your family must have thought"
"My father has never known what was said. He was displeased that she arrived to our home demanding in audience, no matter what her station was, my father found it distasteful. My mother of course wanted to know all but I told Jane, and she helped me to keep her away, but it got better next morning when we met in my morning walk, and you propose"
Darcy smiled, sat down again and grabbed her hand.—"Was my second proposal better?" He said hopefully.
She smiled—"Yes, my affection and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me forever. I would have to tell you, you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love and love, and I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on".—Elizabeth finished with a small tear running down her cheek. –"If you want confirmation, the words are engraved and our wedding portrait in the Gallery."
Darcy smiled, proud of himself, He grabbed both of her hands and kissed them, earning a slight blush from her.
…
After that small walk in the hallway, Elizabeth left him to rest, promising him one loud affair. He had a nap for a few hours and woke excited to see the routine he had with his children. Once again, Jenkins, help him to the glass parlour. The servants had already arranged dinner. He sent Jenkins on his way.
"Hello, Papa."— Ben said, walking in. The little boy took a seat next to him on his left. Elizabeth walked in with what he could only describe as the most beautiful and adorable little girl.
"William, this is Emma."
Emma at seeing her father laughed and called for him.-"Papa"—She said extending her arms.—"Where you gone, papa"
"Where have you gone, papa"—Elizabeth corrected.
Emma nodded, her face, hidden in his neck. Like with Ben, he started to choke up. He smiled at Elizabeth and then started giving little kisses all over Emma's head.—"Hello, little Emma. How precious you are."
"Papa you gone"— She said in an accusatory tone, making Elizabeth laugh—"she's very demanding of her time with papa" –Elizabeth took the seat next to his right, he admitted it was a cosy scene he could get use to.
"Yes, I was, and I apologize"— He said, giving her a kiss in the cheek.
"How does this work?"— He asked Elizabeth. He didn't remember eating with his parents so young.
"Ben knows how to eat by himself and with Emma, we help her. She normally chooses one of us, and I believe tonight she has chosen you."
Ben waved his hand—"Papa, are you going to leave again?"
Emma said "No!"
Darcy chuckled—"No, that's right, not for a very long time"
Elizabeth was serving pretending not to listen, Darcy was able to see the tear that ran down her cheek. Darcy lean forward and clean it with his thumb, give her a tender kiss in the cheek, completely forgetting his children. It was a very chaste kiss, barely touching. Elizabeth chuckled and smiled. His little Emma giggled.
Darcy helped Emma with her food while Ben chatted about his day. Elizabeth had him talking about playing in the snow, with Emma adding her own words. Darcy just sat there looking at his family and felt at peace, he turned to the empty chair next to Ben and felt a pang of sadness for his missing sister.
When supper was over, Elizabeth read to them. Once again, he was marvelled by his children. Ben sat next to his mum, following the words with his finger, he was pleasantly surprised, his son had inherited the love for reading that both parents had, and he was even more astonished that his little Emma had sat still in silence, listening to her mother. It spoke of intelligence and manners.
Soon the kids fell asleep, and they took them to bed. Once they went back into their rooms, he said goodnight and Elizabeth disappeared, with all the excitement of the day he didn't feel Elizabeth laying down next to him.
Hello, I hope you like it. I know it's been a long time, but I'm back, please review and be kind. I do this for fun.
