"So," A voice called out, "How is it? Living your new life and all."
With his mouth still on the bread that he was eating, Lin Ye saw Ansel sitting next to him in the cafeteria. He was holding a bowl of salad.
Lin Ye woke up a bit early, so he thought that he would eat a bit before going to work. The cafeteria was quite empty when he came so it surprised him that Ansel was there.
Swallowing the carbs in his mouth, Lin Ye put his bread down on his plate and focused his attention on his new guest.
"New life?" Lin Ye raised a brow at him, "What do you mean by that, my friend?"
"Stop that," Ansel narrowed his eyes, and he looked annoyed, "Don't you go and talk like that."
Lin Ye chuckled at his reaction. He really does know how to irritate his past roommate
"But seriously," He stopped laughing and hummed, "What do you mean? A new life? Did I die or something?" He joked
"...You're insufferable," Ansel groaned while shaking his head, "You're the Doctor now."
"Yes? And?" Lin Ye smiled. Putting his elbow on the table while putting his hand on his chin
"… You're doing this on purpose," Ansel blankly stared.
"I don't know what to say," Lin Ye shrugged at him, "I am still me. Doctor or not. Nothing much changed. I only got a room to myself and more responsibilities. Other than that, I can't really think of anything that I find different about me now."
"...Well, at least you have a new place to sleep in," Ansel commented. His voice softened when he said that, before glaring at Lin Ye, "Your office was always your favourite."
"Oi," Lin Ye chuckled, "I do not like what you are implying. I don't sleep in my office anymore."
"…" Ansel just stared at Lin Ye, not believing what he said in the slightest.
Lin Ye sighed.
"Okay," He admitted, "I am trying at least."
"Yeah, yeah," Ansel waved his hand at him and took a bite from his salad.
Lin Ye hummed and grabbed his bread. Just as he was about to take a bite, a thought popped into his mind, stopping him.
"Hey Ansel," Lin Ye hummed as he stared at his friend, "Am I your boss or something?"
Ansel glanced at him as he was about to take another bite. He hummed and put down his utensils to look at him.
"Technically you are," Ansel admitted. Then his eyes narrowed, "But remember this, if you do something that is against my goal, I will leave this company."
"Heh," Lin Ye was not bothered by this threat, "No you won't."
Ansel looked at him confused, "How are you so sure?"
Before answering him, he took a quite big sip from his mug of coffee. He could taste the bitterness from it. It might not be liked by most, but Lin Ye was used to being in the minority of things. He loved bitter things, Especially coffee. The mug was gently placed back on the table as he stared back at Ansel's confused expression.
"Did you forget?" Lin Ye hummed, "I can access files that others normally can't"
Ansel needed some time to understand what he meant. However, when he did, Ansel's eyes almost popped.
"What did-."
Before he could finish, Lin Ye cut him off with him throwing what was left of his bread into his mouth. He munched on it for a while before he swallowed.
"Don't be like that Ansel," Lin ye sighed and turned to him, "We're friends. I won't make you do things that you hate."
Seeing that he was done eating he stood up from his seat.
"I would love to talk with you some more," He smiled at him, "But Kal'tsit is in need of my assistance. Bye then."
Lin Ye only took a step but he stopped when he heard Ansel say something.
"What?" He turned back and asked.
"I think it was the right idea for us to vote for your name," Ansel said while he focused more on his food, not looking towards Lin Ye, "If what you said is right."
Lin Ye stared at him. After a while, he had a soft smile on his face. Without saying anything he turned and left Ansel to enjoy his meal in peace.
{Rhodes Island's Psychologist}
As Lin Ye was walking in the hall, he kept himself busy by thinking about him being the Doctor.
Normally when it was this early, Lin Ye would just walk to his office and read some books to pass the time. Sometimes people would come and visit him. That was the time when he did not have much to do.
Now though?
He was the Doctor.
Meaning, he was an important figure on Rhodes Island.
He was not used to that as of yet.
His mind then reminded him about what Kal'tsit gave him for his mission.
He needed to get a partnership with Laterano. Although it was not urgent, Lin Ye still needed to be ready for anything. Rhodes Island had two countries behind them now: Kjerag and Yan. Both were possible because of Lin Ye. So Rhodes Island had high hopes for Lin Ye getting Laterano now.
Not saying it was impossible, but it might be a challenge for him.
His knowledge of the country was limited. All that he knew about it was from books and words from people on the Landship.
What he knew was that Laterano was where most Sanktas, the angels, came from. They were the first known to make firearms in this world. Rather than gunpowder, Terra used Originium as their way to fire bullets.
He heard a lot of dumb things in his life and he was surely using a rock that could lead to explosive cancer as their main fuel to fire a bullet was one of them.
What were they thinking?! Are they trying to kill themselves?!
It didn't even bring a lot of benefits to using them!
With Originium being involved in all of this, the person that wants to use a gun needs to know how to use Arts as well. This meant not all could use a gun. Sanktas were famous for being the race that had a natural ability to use Arts that was related to guns. That was why most Sankta's that you would meet in this world would always have some kind of gun on them.
The Sniper was just a Caster with a different skin!
And worse of all, arrows were more useful compared to bullets in this crazy world.
Everyone can fire an arrow. They don't need to know the Arts to fire one. This made the bow and arrow better than the bullet already.
And if they used Arts alongside to fire the arrow, it might even be stronger than a bullet.
So you can understand Lin Ye's confusion about how this world works.
But who was he?
He was a person that came from another world. What right did he have to question how this world works?
Killing was normal. There was an infection that could grant people power but also give explosive cancer as one of their side effects. Mercenaries filled the world.
Gods were real. In Lin Ye's opinion, they were just beings that were stronger than most people in this world. And people in this world were strong.
And a goddamn pharmaceutical company had the same power as a small country.
Maybe his version of weird was just something normal to this world.
So Lin Ye just gave up on trying to make sense of this and just followed what his parents taught him.
Just as he was about to think about something else, his phone started to vibrate in his pocket.
Lin Ye raised and fished out his phone from his pocket.
He looked at the screen and saw that someone was calling him.
It was an unknown number.
Was this a scam? That was the first thing that Lin Ye thought as he stared at his phone.
Just as Lin Ye was about to end the call, he got a bad feeling. His thumb hovered above the red button on his screen.
He did not know why but something was telling him to answer the call. He felt like he should.
If he ends the call now nothing will change, he will just continue with his life like normal. But this might be someone that he had forgotten to save their number.
And if it was a scam, he could just kindly ask Ren to track that bastard down and let Lin ye have a small… chat with them.
After considering all of those thoughts, he moved his thumb to the green button and pressed it to answer the call.
He brought the phone to his ear.
"Hello?" He hummed as he stood in the hall alone, back against the wall "Who's this?"
"Are you Mostima's anima gemella?" A woman's voice echoed into his ear, "Lin Ye?"
Anima what?
Lin Ye thought
Although he wanted to ask more about that when the woman mentioned Mostima's name Lin ye was intrigued.
"Yeah," Lin ye answered, "This is Lin Ye. What is the matter? Is this about Mos-."
"Mostima is going to die"
"…" Lin ye's thoughts came to a halt, before speaking again, "Excuse me?"
"If you want to save her, come to Via Thervatius," The voice continued to explain, "She does not have a lot of time."
Before Lin Ye had time to ask more questions, the call ended with a beep.
Lin Ye looked down at his phone a blank screen could only be seen on it.
His thoughts were in scrambles before one thought went back to what the woman said on the phone, "Mostima...is going to die?"
Dread crept onto his body as he muttered this.
