A/n: Hey all! I'm sorry about some of the formatting issues I am having, the sites need to cut out all extra characters is really killing me on my stats and stuff like that. So if something looks weird, I AM SORRY! Once I get this story all out I will go back and fix all those little errors and whatnot. Or if someone wants to Beta for me, DM me!

Anywho, this is just the summer between first and second year. Things will really start coming away from canon this year, and I am super excited to keep going! I have lots of ideas and plans and a whole notebook I am jotting things away in. The hard part for me is actually TYPING it all out. I'm a stay at home mom with a wild ass 3 year old and we are currently selling our home and boxing things up to move back in with my inlaws for a bit. So while I can't type as much now, hopefully I'll get some more free time when we FINALLY have our village to help raise our little heathen. (JK, I love her she just never stops moving and I am so tired)

SUMMER BREAK

The start of her summer holiday found Harriet Potter in her bedroom at the Wolf's Den. It was her first night truly alone since the ordeal with the Philosopher's Stone and Professor Quirrell. She let herself reflect on the last few months and sorted through her emotions and memories.

Harry awoke groggily in the infirmary at Hogwarts. She calmed her panic as she saw the bodies in various places around her room: Sirius and Remus in separate chairs each by the head of her bed on each side grasping her hands and snoring, Hermione bent over the foot of her bed, collapsed in apparent emotional exhaustion if the tear stains were anything to go by, and then in a hastily pulled over bench Neville and Ron had fallen asleep bum to bum. Harry giggled softly at the sight.

His ever strong hearing alerted Remus to Harry being awake and he jolted awake himself.

"How are you feeling my cub?" He asked her softly, squeezing her hand gently.

"Okay, I think. My head feels a bit fuzzy and I have some notifications I haven't checked out yet. What happened? There was some sort of black cloud…"

Remus seemed a bit surprised at her last words.

"We weren't sure if you saw the last bit or not. By the time I walked in behind Sirius and Albus, you had collapsed and Albus waved away the cloud you speak of. He asked me to alert him and the Madame when you woke up so we could all talk at once, is that alright with you?"

Harry thought for a moment, then nodded. Remus pulled out his wand with his other hand and waved it.

"Expecto Patronum," he said gently. A bright silver wolf cub erupted from the tip of his wand. He seemed startled at first, then looked at Harry and smiled.

"Please let Albus and Madame Pompfrey know that young Harry is awake," he spoke just as softly to the cub. It nodded once, and flew through the wall to what Harry could only assume was the Headmaster and nurse.

"What was that?! It was so beautiful! You have to teach me!" Harry nearly vibrated with excitement

"That was a Patronus Charm. It is extremely high level magic, NEWTs level or above. It calls forth a divine protector in the form of the animal representation of your magic. It is used primarily for defence against Dementors, Lethifolds, Demons, and other Demonic beings and creatures. In the last war, the Headmaster found a way to also have them carry messages. It was a fool proof way to know the message was from who you expected, a patronus animal cannot be faked or intentionally changed. In extreme cases it has been known to change on its own, though." Remus seemed to look far away for a moment.

Harry was just about to ask a follow up question when the headmaster and nurse came into the curtained off area that acted as her private room. The noise of the curtains and jostling of metal clips woke Sirius and Hermione, who both gave out startled noises of happiness to see Harry awake. This in turn also woke up Neville and Ronald.

The next hour was spent recounting what happened in the chamber. Harry also remembered about the stone in her pocket, which they all goggled at for a moment before she returned it to the Headmaster. Professor Dumbledore explained a bit about her special skill Sacrifice, although he claimed it was all just an educated guess.

"You see Harriet my dear, a mother's selfless love is powerful magic. She gave her life for yours. I also know for a fact as a Charms prodigy apprenticed to Professor Flitwick before they had to go into hiding, she had access to some very powerful magics. All I can say for sure is that since your mother gave her life for yours to protect you from Voldemort, that the protection apparently has bonded to you for a more long standing form of protection in the way of a skill. I would imagine that any future attempts that Voldemort has to touch you physically, in a possessed form or not, that he would suffer the same fate. As to the "black cloud" you spoke of, that was Voldemort himself arising from the body of the late professor. He attempted to swarm you, Harriet, but I was able to ward him away. He was banished from the grounds, still in an incorporeal state.

The rest of the evening had the other 3 of the quartet recount their adventure from the night. Neville and Ron had both gained combat skills. Neville had taken fencing growing up and the sword handling had obviously coordinated nicely. Ron on the other hand, had never wielded a weapon, other than perhaps a Beater's Bat if you wanted to count that, had gained a skill in one handed weapons from the mace he handled. Hermione had gained several ups to her skills already, not including her being levels ahead of a few of them already.

/end Flashback

The rest of the semester had gone according to plan, more or less. The headmaster had stepped in to teach DADA since Quirrell had "left under suspicious circumstances" and was now a "missing person." They finished learning their first year spells, and had taken their first year exams. Hermione of course had come out on top, with Harriet a close second. Neville was the top of their year in Herbology, but still struggled with the wanded subjects. She had a plan for this summer to help, aka plan "Get Neville a New Wand." Ron was just mediocre in all subjects, and it had been a pain to get the young boy to study for finals in the first place. He and Hermione had always been at each other's throats. After one particularly cruel comment, Ron had begun to hang out more with Dean and Seamus again. He wasn't unfriendly with the trio of Harry, Hermione, and Neville, but he definitely was the odd man out in their new group of friends. Neville and Harry didn't stand for the way he would talk about Hermione.

Harry had been invited to visit Ron, Neville, and Hermione at their homes over the summer. She wasn't sure about going to Ronald's house, his family seemed nice enough but they just weren't close enough really. Neville had invited her for a party for the summer solstice, it was apparently a traditional summer party among the upper echelon of wizarding society. Hermione had been invited as well, along with her muggle parents if they so wished. And in return, Hermione had invited both boys to come spend a week with her to spend some time in the muggle world. Harry was really looking forward to this, seeing as Neville had absolutely no experience there. She had talked it over with Moony and Padfoot, and she had also invited them to spend some time with them at the Wolf's Den, just not in line with the full moon obviously.

For the first part of the summer though, she had Moony and Padfoot to herself. Moony had promised to try and teach her the Patronus charm and other various magics. Padfoot had promised to get her on her way to learning how to be an Animagus. She wanted nothing more than to be able to comfort her uncle during those nights. They were also going to spend some time at Grimmauld Place to do some "summer cleaning", or aka Burn Shit Down as Sirius liked to say.

It was shaping up to be the best summer she had planned in her whole life. She smiled to herself as she snuggled down into bed, and fell fast asleep.

The first thing the trio did that first summer was head to Gringotts and get the information on the Pottery. Both Sirius and Remus were familiar with the place, but with the death of James and Lily the wards had reverted and neither could remember the exact location of the family home.

They also made the time while they were there to sort through some of the items that were left amongst the gold in the Potter family vault. In the back corner, much to their surprise, was the contents of the destroyed home in Godric's Hollow. Or least, what was salvageable. Sirirus was the only one who knew what the inside of the cottage looked like after the attack and he had said that almost the entire back end of the house had been destroyed by the flashback of the curse. But, they did find some books with her mother's name scrawled on the front pages as well as a trunk full of clothes that had belonged to them. Harry had reverently pulled out soft jumpers and silk dresses. The preservation charm on the trunk had kept even the smell of them fresh. James's worn wool coat smelled like firewhisky and fireworks with the subtle scent of juniper while Lily's clothing had a subtle sweet and floral smell that Harry couldn't quite place, but recognised.

Harry tucked a few items of clothing into her bag, an older and well loved Gryffindor scarf that was her father's and a stack of journals that had belonged to her mother. A cursory flick through the journals had boggled even her uncle Moony, so naturally they were something she was very interested in.

After obtaining access to the property from the goblins, they flooed through to the Pottery. Sirius first, then Harry, and Remus following up in the rear. Upon entry, they were accosted by the family house elves who were ecstatic to see the "little mistress" back in her family home. Even though the wards had reverted back to Gringotts for safe keeping, the good news was that the elves had kept the manor intact and clean as their last masters had requested. Sirius, who had lived there after he ran away from home at fifteen, was also welcomed back warmly by the strange creatures. After a quick tour of the property and one intense conversation between the small family, they decided to move from the Wolf's Den to the Pottery for their full time living. Not only was the manor larger, but the elves made their lives much easier seeing as none of them were particularly fond of cooking and cleaning. The enormous library and greenhouse in the back had Harriet cave ultimately to her uncles. Unbeknownst to her, but to the elder two, the Pottery was equipped by the safest wards in the country. While the Den was safe, the Pottery was safer.

They spent the next few weeks moving in with the help of the elves, while the two men taught Harry household spells to make the job easier. Her uncles had explained that normally there was no magic outside of Hogwarts for underage individuals, but with the Pottery being covered in the wards that it was, there was no way anyone would actually know. They were all of the belief that Harry should practice magic while she could.

In a similar but different manor home in the country, a husband and wife quarrelled. Again. They had been in an arranged marriage, initially her sister was supposed to marry him. But no, she saw her way out and ran, leaving her baby sister to be chained to the golden haired monster.

Cissy couldn't really blame her, after all she would have probably done the same thing in her place. Especially now, knowing what she does about the devil of a man before her. She knelt on the ground at his feet, in a quiet despair. Her shoulders shook with sobs as she stayed firm in her position over her only child. Her sweet Draco. Lucius was a monster, but he gave her the greatest gift. Draco was not born from a love filled union, but his mother had done nothing but show her endless love and sacrifices for her son.

Unfortunately for said son, his grades in school had not quite been up to dear Father's expectations. When Lucius heard that the halfblood Potter and her mudblood friend had outranked his pure son, he lost it. Thankfully, Narcissa had been walking by to her suite when she heard her son cry out - before it was prematurely silenced that is. Running as fast as her heels could on the slick floors, she threw open her son's bedroom door to see the horrific scene of Lucius actually using the Cruciatus curse on their son!

She didn't have her wand, Lucius had confiscated it years ago and snapped it in a fit of rage, so she threw herself bodily in front of the curse to take it herself. He seemed surprised to see her at first, but it faded quickly and it seemed like the curse only increased. After too many agonising seconds, her husband finally lifted the curse.

He stared at the two of them lying prone on the ground, shaking.

"Next time, do not disappoint me. I am not yet old enough to not be able to take a new bride and sire a new heir. Do not forget that," he said to them before he swept out of the room and left them quivering on the floor.

Cissy was used to him threatening and hurting her, but she would not stand by him hurting Draco the same way.

"Dobby, your mistress and heir need you…"

One afternoon the unconventional family were doing lessons in the side yard.

"It has to be a truly happy feeling Harry. The most pure joy you have ever felt," her uncle Moony explained again to her. The problem was, she didn't have too terribly many overwhelmingly happy moments in her life. The only things she could think of were perhaps the day she met her uncle and he saved her, or perhaps the New Years ball at Longbottom Manor. That moment with Hermione and Neville had made her warm and fuzzy.

Harry focused on the warmth of that memory, let the feeling of the friendship she had with them wash over her.

"Expecto Patronum!" On her third try, Harry finally got something. It wasn't corporal like the ones her uncles could do, but there was definitely a cloud of white mist coming from her wand to form a shield. She could only hold it for a few moments before she collapsed her arm in exhaustion.

"That was amazing Harry! Most full grown wizards can't even make a shield that nice!" Padfoot exclaimed from the sidelines,"I think I saw a hoof or something coming out before you dropped it!"

Harry was swaying where she stood while she read over the many notifications she just got.

Harry wondered if this is what being drunk felt like as she giggled and plopped to the floor.

[+++2 LEVELS IN GENERAL CHARMS SKILLS.]

Remus and Sirius got a kick out of her silliness while they waited for her magic to replenish with the potion Remus handed her. Before she could get back up to attempt again, an unknown house self appeared in the room with them. He was smaller than the Potter elves, even worse off than Kreacher from Grimmauld Place. He wore a dirty pillowcase as a toga and had obvious scars. His left ear was missing a chunk and almost all of his digits were wrapped in gauze or some other first aid.

They all stared at each other for a moment. The most glaring issue was the fact that this elf had made it through the Pottery wards. Only a house elf with blood ties to the family could pop in and out. Once the little creature turned it large tennis ball like eyes to them, both Sirius and Remus gasped with shock.

"Dobby!"

"Master Lord Black, Cissy bes needings your help!" The creature wrung its hands fretfully, "the bad master hurt her and the small master. Dobby bring here, yes?"

"Yes! Dobby do it quickly and do it without being seen!" Sirius instructed him. With a pop, he was gone.

"Sirius, that was…"

"Yes, Moony, I know. We can deal with that part later. She is a Black first and foremost, and has sent her Black family elf to me for help."

Harry looked very confused between the two. She had followed little of what was going on. She would have to wait longer, because at that moment the little elf popped back, but this time with passengers.

The more injured of the two was a woman with white blonde hair that seemed to have a natural black streak, and she was dressed immaculately in pureblood robes. She was unconscious and there was a dribble of blood coming from the edge of her mouth. Harry could see signs of faded bruises and a fresh one on her right cheek. Sirius went straight to her and began diagnostic tests. They were simple ones he learned as an Auror, but they did the trick.

It took a moment before Harry turned to the other figure, it was only when they made a whimper of a noise themself that she turned away from her uncles and the woman. To her surprise, Draco Malfoy lay curled up on the flagstone ground. She could tell he had taken a few hits, both magical and physical, himself. She didn't know any medical charms yet, note to self to look up later, but she still knelt by the boy and tried to ease his pain by checking him over and whispering to him that he was okay now.

The rest of the day had gone by in a whirlwind of potions and questioning. As it turned out, Narcissa Malfoy, nee Black had be tortured by her husband, Lucius, when he tried to harm Draco for failing to live up to his unrealistic expectations. It was unfortunately not the first time the man had stuck her, but it would be the only time he hurt their child.

With the help of Sirius, the following week had everyone running around the house and their whole schedule a mess. They had Narcissa's marriage annulled, there was a clause about domestic abuse that they cited and Lucius had no leg to stand on. For the same reason it was clear Draco would not be returning to Malfoy Manor either. Lucius had avoided prison, but only just barely.

In the end, Cissy (as she had instructed Harry to call her) and Draco were given Grimmauld Place to live, for now. At the end of the previous school year, before Harry had returned, Remus and Sirius had finally finished clearing out the old family home. It took a team of curse breakers, but the townhouse had been remodelled from bottom to top. Sirius had them set aside anything worth value, and the rest was melted down or sold. Or just flat out destroyed in the case of many grotesque items. The only place they were unable to enter was the house elf's room, Kreacher refused any entrance and it was barred by house elf magic.

It wasn't a permanent home for the two, it was much too large for just them, but the wards protecting the home were plenty enough to keep Lucius and other seedy characters out. Harry had spent a significant amount of time with young Draco, being the only two kids they pretty much only had each other for the first few weeks. Harry learned that he wasn't really bad, for a Slytherin. He had a dry sense of humour and used far too much hair gel than the normal human should. He had even apologised, rather reluctantly albit, about his behaviour towards her and her friends at school. It had been his father pressing him about Harry and the fear of retribution if he did nothing and had nothing to report.

On the summer solstice, they received invitations to attend the Longbottom Litha celebration. This also marked the trade off of staying with their friends for the summer. They would begin at Longbottom manor for the weekend, then stay a few days with Harry at the Pottery and the Wolf's Den, and then finally they'd wrap the fortnight long foray with a week in muggle London with Hermione. Her dentist parents had taken the week off and they had a very exciting few days planned.

Harry had always been an observational person, and she kept on being so, even around people she loved and trusted. This keen skill had her noticing odd things.

Her uncle Moony and Cissy. There was something there, but Harry couldn't quite figure it out. She saw the long gazes and the lingering touches. She also noticed they did their best not to be alone together. On the nights near the full moon, even her presence made Moony's nostrils flare and he had to escape the room. Many of these details Harry didn't understand, simply because of her age and inexperience.

While she was getting ready for the Litha celebration, she found herself alone with her first uncle (the only one who counted anyway) for the first time in a while. She watched him as he shaved in the mirror of his ensuite bathroom. She was already ready, aside from her traditional summer robes, and Moony had been running late. Sirius always told him to just use the shaving charm, but he never felt quite comfortable with his wand at his throat with a cutting spell. So she watched him, perched on the counter nearby.

"Uncle Moony…. Why do you and Aunt Cissy look at each other so weird?"

Her incredibly innocent question had taken the man by surprise. Thankfully he was rinsing out his razor, or he may have accidentally nicked himself. Harry saw him frown in concentration in the mirror.

"I suppose it wouldn't be harmful to tell you, but we have a complicated history. Narcissa is the same age as us you see, we all went to Hogwarts together. She was a Slytherin, of course, but Padfoot had always been rather close to her and Andromeda. I thought we might have had something…" he looked downcast and lost to the past for a moment and then steeled himself before patting his face dry on the towel.

"Regardless, her parents betrothed her to Malfoy when Andromeda ran out on their engagement. Now, I believe we have a party to attend? Grab your robes cub."

Harry didn't get any more information out of her uncle, but she was excited to spend the next few days at Longbottom Manor. Like her new/old home, the Pottery, the Longbottom Gardens (she learned the history of the large home and the family's attunement to plants and the earth led to many conservatories and gardens both indoors and out) was a pureblood manor and was more or less hidden from the underage magic alarms. Harry knew this, and enacted her plan, "Operation Neville" on the first night they were in the large home.

Harry, Hermione, and Neville were in the library reading through the older books on family history with Granny Longbottom supervising in the corner. Much to their surprise, Hermione and Harry anyway, there was a tie between family bloodlines and the trees used in their wands. Of course Hermione found the whole thing fascinating as a new blood so her first questions were to the other two about their own wands in comparison to what their bloodlines tend to prefer.

"Mine is holly wood, with a phoenix feather core. It says here that the Potter's tend to have holly wood wands, but the occasional larch and rowan thrown in the mix. The book is automatically updated via a spell, it noted that my dad had a larch wood wand, with a dragon heartstring core. My mum's wand was a rowan wood with a unicorn hair core," Harry lightly touched the book where her parents' names were written.

Neville nervously glanced at his grandmother before he answered.

"Longbottom's have always had an infinity with the earth and plants, it makes us tend to lean towards chestnut wood, English oak, and occasionally vine or hawthorne. My mother had a willow wood wand, and I have my father's chestnut wand with a dragon heartstring core."

Hermione frowned at that, and Harry put the final piece into the puzzle that was what was wrong with Neville's magic.

"But, the book says that the wand chooses the wizard. That wand might have been great for your dad, but going by classes it is definitely not a good match for you. Here, try mine instead. Just cast a lumos." Hermione passed Neville her vine wood wand with a dragon heartstring core. He again glanced nervously at his grandmother, who was now watching the trio like an eagle ready to descend on mice. He gently took her wand.

"Lumos."

The light that the single spell gave off was brighter than anything the boy had managed in classes all year previous. Both Hermione and Harry stared at him in shock.

"Granny Longbottom, I think Neville might be better off with a wand of his own. While his father was a great man, Neville will grow up to be his own, not him," Harry spoke this softly and tried her best not to agitate the older woman.

She had a deep frown on her face as she stared at Neville. It was like she had never really seen him as a separate entity from his father.

The next day the group went to Diagon Alley and Neville was chosen by his very own wand. It was a willow wood wand with a phoenix feather core.

The rest of summer break passed in a fun filled blur of friendships and learning. To their surprise, Draco ended up joining the trio of friends for a day or two of their visit at the Pottery, and come to find out he wasn't so bad after all. A Slytherin through and through, but he had a dry sense of humour and a knowledge of muggle literature that surprised even Hermione.

Their time at Longbottom Gardens was spent elbows deep in the plantlife of the manor or curled up reading and teaching each other spells in the library. Their time at the Pottery wasn't too much different, except Remus and Sirius joined their study sessions in the library and instead of gardens they trained in the battle room in the basement for practical hands-on fighting.

While the majority of the wizarding world at this time of peace was unconcerned about learning and teaching hand to hand combat, there were many who did not feel this way. A good bunch of purebloods even saw this type of fighting to be muggle and unsophisticated and refused to do anything but magic for combat. Sirius informed Harry that the Potter's were a well known family for both Battle Magic and their prowess with physical fighting. There had been a Black and Potter fighting in every wizarding conflict in history, although not always on the same side.

So part of their time was spent practising duelling and trying to figure out what fighting style worked best for them.

For Harriet, she was tall for her age and built lithe and thin. Her uncles thought she favoured James' body shape, but looked after Lily physically. It took her hefting a few weapons around to find something that felt comfortable for her to swing around. She settled on two daggers, one for each hand. They weren't small, but they weren't quite swords either. She liked the idea of being ambidextrous with them so she could use her wand interchangeably with them as well.

Neville had already proven his skill with a two handed broadsword when he and Ronald were in the chess room at the end of the year. He decided he quite liked the feel of it and stuck with it. Remus also began working with the boy on strength training, he would need it for that style of combat. Remus was particular to an axe or hatchet himself, so he was able to help him train better than Sirius.

As for Hermione, it took even longer to decide. Not only did she want to try just about every single type of weapon that was on display in the Battle Magic room, but she had no experience wielding any sort of weapon so it was a time consuming process. Eventually, Sirius helped her get it narrowed down to a bow of some sort. She had decided she wasn't much for up close combat, but she liked the idea of background support. She had explained to Sirius that her father had been part of the Queen's Army and was a sniper. Apparently his skills passed on, because she hit every target dead on.

"Oh this is amazing! It's like Harry is like a Rogue, especially if you start using your cloak in practice, Neville is like a plant based Barbarian, and I'm a Ranger!"

Harry snorted at Hermione's D&D assessment of their fighting styles. Sirius gave out a bark of laughter to everyone's surprise.

"Oh you remind me so much of Lily. She said almost the same thing about us, always comparing things with that muggle board game!"

Remus started laughing at this point as well.

"I had almost forgotten! She got us all to play a round with her as the DM the summer after 7th year. James chose a Paladin, Sirius a Rogue, Peter was a terrible Bard, and I chose a Monk class. I suppose the muggles got the idea from somewhere, perhaps the creator was a squib or a muggleborn," Remus said thoughtfully. The two Marauders spent a moment lost in memories.

After a moment Sirius came to first and clapped his hands together eagerly.

"Now, when you are fighting multiple combatants at once…"

_HP&&&&DQ_

The days spent at the Pottery were filled with laughter and training. If Harriet learned anything her first year, it was that Voldemort wasn't quite as dead as they had originally thought. So, best be prepared for the inevitable, right? They even went as a group to pick up their school items from Diagon Alley while they were at the Pottery, Sirius and Remus were happy to escort them, Hermione's parents still were cagey a bit about magic itself and Neville's gran didn't leave the Manor much except to go to the Ministry for meetings of the Wizengamot. Since they went early, there was hardly any crowd and they had the chance to enjoy their time shopping and looking around.

Then their time in muggle London with Hermione and her parents.

Harry had been surprised when they drove up to the house, Sirius had rented a sleek black car from the ministry just for the day to drop them off. He would return later and take her back via Apparation, and Neville would just travel by floo from the Pottery to the Garden. While she had gotten rather used to large homes thanks to Neville and her family estates, the Granger home was a large manor in the Muggle sort of way. Obviously newer, but a multi-level home with all the current technology inside none the less. Neville had never been around so much muggle technology before and Hermione took great delight in showing him all the clever inventions the non magical had come up with.

That visit had them visiting the London Zoo, a play at Piccadilly Circus, and of course lots of wandering around downtown to see the Eye and Parliament buildings. The last day of the trip, Hermione's parents even took them to a theme park! While Harry had been in and around London before, the theme park was a novelty for her as well as Neville. There was no talk of dark lords, no fighting or sparring, barely even magic was spoken of unless it was to explain something to Neville. The three friends truly enjoyed their time in the muggle world, and had made plans to do a visit like this once every summer.

Harry sat on her bed in the Heir's quarters at the Pottery the night before they were to catch the Hogwarts express. The summer had truly flown by, and she had enjoyed every second of it. Even the time spent around Draco and Cissy (as she insisted Harry call her) had become something she looked forward to. She wasn't sure how well things would go over once Draco was back with his Slytherin cronies, but hopefully he would continue to be civil to them.

She hadn't levelled up much over the summer, but Remus explained that it was just the nature of learning magic. The more you do and practice, of course the more you grow. She did gain some new skills, flying more unlocked a flying skill, and her practice with sparring had unlocked some physical skills for her as well. Sirius told her it would take longer to build those up, the physical body could only progress safely at a slower rate considering her age and magical core size. But, he did promise to work with her every holiday. She even had homework to continue her physical education even at Hogwarts. He shrunk down some muggle weights and had taught her some good workout routines that would be easy to continue in her dorm or by the lake in the warm weather.

To say she was excited about her second year at Hogwarts would be a complete understatement!
