Corrupting Lugia
Growing up in the early 2000's, one of my favorite games to play was the ironically classic GameCube game, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and of course the best thing to come out of that game was the amazingly stunning Shadow Lugia, but something we never got to see was how Lugia went from a gentle sea guardian to a dark-hearted monster, so that is where this story comes to play.
I do hope you enjoy!
(Day 1)
In a computer room in a sinister lab in an unknown location, a man with light blue hair wearing a similarly blue suit and a red haired man wearing a red suit walks up to a woman sitting at one of the computers, typing away on the keyboard before the blue haired man demands, "Status update."
The woman replies, "It seems that the effects of the sedative are wearing off, should we administer another dose?"
The red haired man shakes his head, "No, no, let's allow it to wake up." He then announces to the others in the room, "Alright, people, it's time to get this show on the road." Suddenly, the front of the room opens up with two sliding doors to reveal a huge window, inside of which was a very dark room.
The lights turn on all of a sudden to show a silver bird-like Pokémon with wings for hands, a blue belly, rectangular fins coming out of its back and blue fins around its eyes who was strapped to a medical bed and had its arms tied together, legs bound to the bed and its tail secured to the floor below.
The lights seem to be enough as the Pokémon comes back into consciousness after being sedated by those same people and slowly opens its eyes to find itself in the room where the red haired man addresses it. "I never thought I'd get to see it with my own eyes."
The blue haired man adds, "Indeed. The legendary guardian of the seas, a Pokémon so powerful that one clap of its mighty wings can cause a 40 day storm, Lugia."
As Lugia realizes just where he is, panic sets into his mind as he attempts to move his arms and legs, but to no avail. The red haired man states, "Now, now, there's no need to get alarmed. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Eldes, Admin of the Cipher organization."
The blue haired man adds, "And I am Ardos, a pleasure to meet you."
Lugia couldn't care less about who those two are, he just knew one thing, that he did not belong there. "HEY! Let me out of here at once!"
Eldes states, "And having our time spent finding and capturing such a magnificent Pokémon? Fat chance."
Lugia clenches his fists and states, "Listen here, punk, I don't know who you are but I'm feeling unusually generous right now, let me go and I'll consider not Aeroblasting this place to the ground!"
Ardos shakes his head to that statement. "Lugia, you have it all wrong, we didn't bring you here to harm you, we brought you here to help you." Lugia was still incredibly apprehensive about this, but he gave a slight 'go on' nod. Ardos adds, "We know a way to enhance your power by the tenfold, a process that will help us see just how powerful of a Pokémon you can truly be, and have done so on many Pokémon already, what do you say?"
Lugia squints in rage as he replies, "How dare you? You think that power is the only thing that I seek? I live to protect and serve the Pokémon that strive best in the sea, I don't need whatever process you have in mind to do that, so I suggest you release me now or I'll deliver a blow that you'll be feeling next year!"
Eldes and Ardos exchange a glance before sighing as Eldes comments, "Fine, we'll do this the hard way."
He snaps his fingers and a TV screen drops down in the room Lugia is held in, from there the screen turns on to show something that made Lugia's eyes widen to the edge of their sockets. "NO!"
What he saw was a blue bird, a yellow spiked bird, and a red flaming bird, all three of which had red pupils and were just blankly staring at the ground. Eldes says with a sinister chuckle, "That's right, Lugia, your legendary brethren. Articuno, the bird of ice…" He refers to the blue bird. "…Zapdos, the bird of lightning…" Referring to the yellow bird. "…and Moltres, the bird of fire." Referring to the flaming bird.
Ardos adds, "All three of them underwent the same process that we wish to give to you, and all three have become twice as powerful as they were otherwise."
Lugia clenches his teeth before yelling out, "You let them GO!"
Ardos adds, "It's too late, Lugia, once the Shadowification Process has started, it cannot be stopped. Now, we were willing to be reasonable, but you have left us with no other option. Take to our process, and we will leave these three alone, refuse and…well, you probably don't want to know."
Lugia wanted so badly to blast these guys now and ask questions later, but realizing that doing so would put those that he had been protecting like his own children for so long in a danger that he didn't even want to imagine, so he bows his head and says through a deep grumble, "Do your worst."
Eldes and Ardos smirk before Eldes snaps his fingers. "Administer the serum."
Hearing this, Lugia's head perks up. "Serum? Wait, I didn't agree-AH!" Before he could even think, a mechanical arm drops down holding a syringe containing a bright purple fluid that is injected right into Lugia's neck. Feeling no immediate change, Lugia looks back up to the two admins and tells them, "There, I took whatever it was that you wanted me to. Now let me GO!"
Eldes chuckles to that. "You fool, you thought that was the only one. How precious."
With that, he and Ardos turn around and begin to walk out of the room as Lugia yells out, "Hey! HEY! You're just going to leave me here? What do you mean, I thought that was the only one? The hell is this?"
However, Lugia's cries went into deaf ears as Ardos says to one of the workers, a woman, in a low voice, "Keep an eye on his vitals and alert us if there's an emergency." The woman nods and goes back to her work as the red-haired and blue-haired men leave the room, leaving Lugia where he was.
(Day 2)
As the hours passed, or days as far as he was concerned as there was no real way to tell the time in that room, Lugia continued to receive regular doses of the serum on the hour every three hours. In addition, about three times a day, he would be injected with a larger serum that contains all the nutrients Lugia needs in order to live.
As time went on, Lugia slowly started to notice some behavioral changes, he felt a deep feeling of hatred and anger towards those that had wronged him and he began to feel a type of energy flow through his body, starting from the neck where the serum was injected and working its way down to his torso, arms and legs.
On one day, the doors to the lab open up to show Ardos walking in and asking a female worker, "Status update."
The worker replies, "The process is almost 40% complete, sir, there seems to be a slight increase in Lugia's heart rate, but that could just be the serum getting into his bloodstream. We also noticed that he seems to have stopped resisting all together."
The blue-haired man nods to that. "Could be that Lugia has realized that it's futile to think that he can have any further control on his mind and body."
Suddenly, the doors open up to show a male member of Cipher informing Ardos, "Sir, I'm afraid the Hexagon Brothers are fighting again."
Ardos pinches his upper nose. "Why did Lord Greevil even hire those buffoons? All they ever do is bicker about how many of them there are. I'll be back." He then turns around and walks out the door.
(Day 3)
It's bright in the morning when Eldes walks into the control room, and as soon as he gets in he notices that Lugia has undergone some changes. His finger and toenails have grown a bit, looking sharper and more like claws, the covers on his eyes became longer too, but the most noticeable change was that the silver skin that covered most of his body had grown slightly darker whereas the blue on his belly, back fins and eye cover became lighter.
Eldes comments with a huge smirk. "Well, this is unexpected, but not unwelcomed. Explain." He says to the same female worker.
The worker explains, "We noticed the changes once you left and we gave him another injection of XD-2005, the visual changes you can plainly see, but what we also picked up was another behavioral change, becoming more increasingly hostile and angry."
Eldes puts his hand to his chin and states, "Fascinating, no other Pokémon that we gave the serum to reacted this way, not even those legendary birds or legendary beasts, Raikou, Entei and Suicune. My question is why is this change occurring?"
The worker explains, "Well, sir, as you already know Lugia is already a very powerful Pokémon, arguably the most powerful that the Johto region has to offer…" She pulls up a hollowed out image of Lugia's body on her computer screen, showing the serum they injected into him. "…It seems that the excess of power from XD-2005 merged into Lugia's DNA and caused him to take on this darker appearance and hostile behavior."
Eldes nods with a sinister grin. "Fascinating."
The worker asks, "Should we halt the procedure, sir?"
Eldes shakes his head, "No, no, let's just see how far this can go. Lord Greevil will be very pleased about this, though." He then presses a communication button and says to Lugia, "Well, Lugia, I must say I am loving the new look. Really suits you better than that old look which made you look more like an overgrown Wingull. Tell me, how do you feel?"
Lugia clenches his teeth and says through them, "I feel like I want to crush a building with my bare claw. I thought you said you were just increasing my power!"
The red-haired man replies, "There's been a…change of plans. Would be such a waste to just turn one of the most magnificent Pokémon on Earth into a Shadow Pokémon. It's time that we test the full limits of what a Shadow Pokémon can be, I want you to become a savage, evil beast of destruction and chaos! I want you to become the ultimate Shadow Pokémon!"
It was then that Lugia's eyes widen more than ever before. "You-you're turning me into a MONSTER! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS? I AM THE GUARDIAN OF THE SEAS NOT SOME TOY THAT YOU CAN JUST MODIFY AT WILL!"
Eldes scoffs to that. "Oh, please, all Pokémon are just tools that people use for battle, to even think they deserve more than that is a lost cause."
Lugia clenched his sharpened fists even tighter as he states, "You are a Giratinac maniac!"
Eldes states, "You, too, are a tool to us, Lugia. You may think that you're all powerful, but deep down you know that you're just a pawn in all of this. You will break, all of the Pokémon we experimented on did, and the sooner you break and realize who you truly are, the easier this will become."
Lugia still had no intention on letting the serum get to his head, despite how tempting of a thought that is given the sheer discomfort he was experiencing from being bound up in the same position for days on end, not to mention a new voice in his head telling him to give in.
However, it was only moments after Eldes leaves that Lugia notices his body darken even further and his mind fill with even more anger that trying to fight was useless at that point.
(Day 4)
Having heard that Lugia's transformation is now nearly complete, Eldes and Ardos enter the room to see Lugia's new body.
His claws were now much longer and sharper, the covers around his eyes had pointed upwards to look more like edged daggers, his usual silver skin had darkened to a deep purple and his belly, back fins and eye covers were now a light grey.
Having seen the full transformation, Ardos, the blue-haired man, switches on a call button and states, "Well, Lugia, I'd say you've done it."
"…"
Eldes, the red-haired man, adds, "Yes, you have taken in your transformation and are now as evil-looking and sinister as we hoped. Tell us, Lugia, how do you feel?"
"…-me" Lugia says with a meek voice.
Eldes states, "Sorry, didn't quite catch that."
Lugia growls as he peeks his naturally red eyes open and states, "…Kill…me…"
Ardos grins wide. "And let such a magnificent creature go to waste? Not a chance."
Eldes then states with a just-as wide grin, "You know, Lugia, you really do amaze us. Throughout all of this, you have managed to hold onto the one shred of your sanity that you have left!"
"…"
Ardos adds, "There's nothing left you can do, Lugia, the serum has already transformed you into the ultimate version of yourself, so you might as well just give in. Accept your fate."
Lugia did admit these two had a point, there was no chance of turning back at this point, so he closes his eyes and in a flash allows the serum to win over his conscious and subconscious mind until the only thing he could think of was hatred and the need to listen to command, and a moment later his eyes flash open into a glowing red that signified that the transformation was complete.
"Grrrrrrr."
Eldes couldn't help but let out an evil laugh. "Good…GOOD! You have finally allowed XD-2005 to strip you of your willpower and become putty in our hands."
Ardos then states, "I say it is time we put you to the test, Lugia. There is a cruiser heading towards the Orre Region, the S.S. Libra, I want you to find this ship and abduct it, give this world your debut as…Shadow Lugia!"
It was then that Lugia lets out a roar to signify that he was ready. "GROOOAAHHHHHHHH!"
Thank you so much for reading this story and anything else I've done, sorry for not posting in such a good while, I was on vacation visiting some family which kept me busy, but I am still here and hopefully I will continue to provide you with stories.
Take care and I'll see you next time!
