This is an ExT fic. Although it never directly mentions anyone's names...it's sort of metaphorical. ^__^ ;; Anywho, this is what I came up with in an hour for a fic challenge through the CCS fanworks ML, although I had a 25 minute break in the middle to eat dinner....^_^ This is very short...(yes, pathetic, I know) but it expresses everything I was going for (I think). Who knows...maybe I'll expand this one day...
Beyond the Sun
a CCS fanfic by serena b
Disclaimer: CCS no belongy me, CCS belongy Clamp.
The sky above me seems so boundless, as if it extends into infinity and nothing exists beyond it's vastness. But, if you are patient, and you wait until the sun goes down, a whole other realm appears before you. The stars and the moon, unseen because of the brilliance of the sun during the day, have an etherealness to them the sun could never possess.
The sun; it outshines everything, lighting up the world and revealing the beauty all around us. But, if you never look further than the sun, you might keep thinking there is nothing there but the bright blue sky. You'd miss out on all the stars twinkling in the blackness of space and the delicate paleness of the moon.
I feel that I am drawn to the night and the secrets it holds, it's mysteries. In the night, the world seems still, quiet. There is an undercurrent, nothing like the exuberance that comes with the daylight, but thriving with life nonetheless. The darkness appears lonely at times. But it's filled with a quiet strength, as if it's become comfortable in it's solitude.
For a long time, there wasn't anything but the sun for me. It seemed that I existed just to bask in all it's glory. There was nothing else, no other reason, no other purpose. Then, I discovered the night and beheld it's reserved charm. And, I found a friend in the night. I found that the universe was much bigger than just the sun and the earth and the sky. That there was much more to be seen.
Now, I can never go back. But, I wouldn't want to, anyway. Because, what I've found is more than I could have ever hoped for. Although, I still love the sun, the night is my companion.
Additional AN: This fic was inspired by a boat ride I had the other day. My family and I were out there, in the middle of the river on my cousin's boat, watching the sun set. I had one of those moments...you know, the kind where you're like 'the world is so big and I'm just a speck in the universe'. Well, anyway, this is what came from that moment. Although, this fic never even mentions Eriol or Tomoyo or any other characters from CCS, it was written with them in mind. And I'm not really sure if this makes much sense...er..so C&C really, really, appreciated.
