"Hey, beautiful!"

Over the sound of the band playing at The Bronze, I hear his warm, resonant voice, and instinctively turn around to smile at him. But he brushes past me, gathers Anya in his arms, and kisses her deeply.

Oh. Of course he meant Anya. What was I thinking?

"Mmmmm. Nice." Anya melts into his touch. I take a sip of my latte, and I try to avoid looking directly at Xander. Not working out too well.

"Hey Buff. Hey Will." Xander stands behind Anya, wrapping her in his arms, nuzzling his chin on her shoulder. "Mind if I steal this beautiful creature away for a dance?" Not waiting for an answer, he pulls her onto the floor. All the while, he looks at Anya like she's the only person in the room.

As I watch Xander dance with Anya, I feel weird. Why? Why is there weirdness?

Is it because once upon a time, he only had eyes for me? Am I...jealous? Of Anya?

No, that can't be it. He's always just been my Xander-shaped-friend. Sure, he has...HAD...a thing for me, but not the other way around.

I guess I just took it for granted that I'd always see love in his eyes when he looked at me.

But now, I only see love in his eyes when he gazes at her. I didn't think that would bother me.

But it does.
