Gone Forever

Disclaimer: I don't own any of this, it was created by Joss Whedon. Still, I hope you enjoy the story anyway.
As Cordelia Chase neared the door to her apartment, she started to walk more slowly and fresh tears filled her already puffy eyes. Reaching into her purse, she pulled out her keys and with shaking hands she unlocked the door.
As soon as she opened the door and stepped over the threshold, Cordelia's mind flooded with the memory of Doyle finding the apartment for her via 'a guy'. Cordelia pushed the door shut, then felt 'Phantom' Dennis' ghostly arms hold her up to prevent her from collapsing in a state of immense grief.
Leaning on a flatemate that she couldn't see, the former Spring-Fling queen stumbled her way onto the couch. "It's not fair!" She cried through agonizing sobs. "I loved him! I just didn't realize it till now. And now's too late." Tenderly, Dennis placed a blanket around Cordelia and stroked her long brown hair.
"Thank you." Cordelia whispered to the invisible figure that she knew was sitting next to her.
Looking through puffy, stinging eyes, Cordelia noticed the little red light that was flashing on her answer machine. Knowing that she would have to have contact with people who were actually (and technically) alive sooner or later, she weakly reached out and after a bit of fumbling, managed to play her messages.
"Cordelia honey, it's mom. I was just calling to see how you're doing in LA, and to say hi. Call me when you get this message. Bye sweetheart,"
"Hey, Cordy! Long time no talk huh? Willow's coping slightly better with the whole Oz thing, but she still has a long way to go. She asked the other day if I thought it was karma for what happened between the two of us back when I was going out with you, and she was beginning to go steady with Oz. Not that I called to tell you about Will's love life. I just realized I hadn't spoken to you for a while. Anyway, I have to go, so bye."
As Cordelia listened to Xander Harris' voice for the first time in months, she decided it must be ironic or something that the guy who was pretty much her first love had chosen that day to call her for the first time since she moved away. 'The same day that I loose the guy who could be my true love.' She found herself thinking bitterly.
Half asleep, half crying, Cordelia found herself remembering the kiss that she and Doyle had shared right before he...he... Cordelia couldn't bring herself to so much as even think *that* word. "To leave me", Cordelia told herself, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"DOYLE!" She screamed, sending herself into yet another hysterical fit of tears, hugging her knees to her chest as if it would somehow heal the emptiness that she was feeling in her heart.
Somehow, Cordelia forced herself to sit up, still with her arms around her legs. Rocking slowly backwards and forwards, the once carefree young woman became a complete and total wreck. She had lost the one person she had ever truly loved, and only moments after she had realized how much he meant to her.
