As the memory plays again,
I awaken from this nightmare,
Solitude, my only friend,
With trembling hands I place my mask,
Back upon my face,
All signs of heartbreak disappear,
Leaving not a trace,
The others will never have to know,
The anguish and pain I feel,
They shall never have to know,
That shattered souls never heal,
My mask is my protector,
My tormentor, as well as my foe,
It obscures my emotions beneath,
That mirthful smile and so,
I am left to suffer alone,
For now no one can behold,
The true self that lies behind the mask,
May my history never unfold.
