Chapter 2
Disclaimer: Yadda yadda yadda. I know. All of the character belong to Tammy Pierce.

Alanna and Alex scrambled, with Alex hiding underneath the bed and
Alanna hiding in her dressing room. Roger didn't come into Alanna's room, thankfully, but passed it and saw no one inside.
Alex came out, coughing and sneezing. Alanna came out of the dressing room, and spoke to Alex.
"You should leave, in case Roger comes back."
"Yes, Alan, um, Alanna. I know."
Alanna looked at him, and gave him one last kiss, more passionate than all of the other ones put together. Then, he left, leaving Alanna alone in her quarters. Thinking about all the things that she had just done, she smiled, just a little bit. Nobody except Jonathan had actually kissed her before, and not even Jonathan could compare to Alex.

~Next day~

Alanna sat down at her usual table.
"Good morning."
Alex smirked at her, with a slight chuckle. Alanna gave him a look, that obviously meant to be quiet.
"What's with both of you?" Jon asked. "It's like you have a secret."
At that, both Alanna and Alex started talking, babbling out explanations for their odd behaviors.
"No,of course not, why would we? We don't have a secret, no secret at all, what gave you that idea?
"If we had a secret, wouldn't we tell you, my prince?"
At their explanations, Jonathan nodded, still looking a bit doubtful. After lunch, Jon pulled Alanna aside.
"Alanna, something's wrong. It's not very hard to tell. Both of your explanations were about as smooth as butter with the cow hairs still in them."
"My prince, Jon, I do not have a secret, and nothing is wrong. Don't you believe Alex and me?"
"Not exactly, it still seems like something's wrong."
Alanna just shook her head and walked away, because as usual, there was lots of work to be done and not enough time to do it.She went to Myles for history, and then learned stuff about the Tusaine War. After that, she went to archery class, and did pretty well, although she was distracted, so didn't hit the target every single time like she was supposed to. Every once in a while, she would steal a glance at Alex, just to try to see what he was thinking, and whenever she looked, Alex never seemed to notice that she noticed him.
