Author's note: This takes place shortly after the space explorers have recovered all five lions. Obviously, I don't own Voltron or any of the characters from the show. They are owned by WEP.
Staying
War is a funny thing. It does funny things to people. If it drags out long enough people start to forget that that isn't how things are suppose to be. I think they've started to forget on Arus. I don't blame them; twelve years is plenty of time to forget.
This planet is so strange. They have technology hundreds of years ahead of anything the Alliance has seen, yet this war has reduced these people to the level of horses and carts. There are no paved roads, there's no electricity outside the castle, and there are hardly any medical facilities that even come close to the minimum requirements for military mash units. And you can trust me when I say that those are pretty low.
They expect us to fix this. They expect us to dig up a couple flying metal cats, and restore the planet to power and glory. I'd like to know who thought it was going to work that way, and I'd like them to come and live in one of these towns that has been demolished countless times by robeasts, then tell us that all we have to do is pilot a couple mystical machines and that will make everything all better.
We found the lions, that wasn't the hard part. Fighting robeasts isn't going to be the hard part. I think that's going to come as a little bit of a shock to the princess. I'm wondering who's going to break the news to her. Probably Keith. He is captain for a reason. I'm sure he'll find some diplomatic way to tell her we can stop the robeast from demolishing the planet, mostly we can stop them anyway, but it's going to take some serious work, some serious aid, and a hell of a lot more funding than is in the Arus royal treasury to get even basic sanitation and power to the rest of the planet. I'm just glad it's not my job to figure out how all of this is going to get done.
And I'm sure they will figure it out, and I'm sure they will do it. That's why I'm still here. Keith is my best friend, and he will always be my captain, but if I really thought this couldn't be done, I would have dragged him and the rest of the team off the planet as soon as possible. Contrary to popular belief the captain does listen to me on occasion, and there are other things we could be doing to help take Doom down.
I'm just convinced that nothing we do is going to be as effective as Voltron.
You should see the way people gawk at those lions. There were grown men in tears the first time we landed Voltron after taking down a robeast. It's just a hunk of metal. It's not going to rebuild their homes, or bring back everything they've lost. But I'm hoping that we'll be able to use it to make sure they don't loose any more. Everyone is hoping. That's why this planet is still here, and it's where they'll have to start to rebuild their lives. And I'm sure that it's going to be enough, so I'm going to stick it out.
"Lance, let's go. We were suppose to be in the air five minuets ago for practice," Sven called as he walked past the door on his way to castle control.
Of course flying the lions isn't half bad either. Every job has to have it's perks.
