Resident Evil: The Aftermath
Following the narrow escape from the Spencer estate, the S.T.A.R.S. chopper, carrying the remaining S.T.A.R.S. member, is flying low over the forest. It is headed toward the hospital. Inside there is a deathlike silence. On one bench, there lies a young man, Duo Maxwell. He is breathing heavily and his once white shirtsleeve is stained a dark crimson color. His right forearm is missing and a makeshift bandage, provided by Rebecca, covers what is left of his arm. The gory details of the attack are still fresh in his mind…. As he opened the heavy, metal door he knew he was in trouble. He knew he should have turned around as soon as he heard the vicious snarling. And when all three zombie-dogs lunged at him together it was already too late. He had tried to save himself using his right arm, and all three dogs grabbed a hold of it at once. Their sharp teeth sank deep into his arm and he could feel the warm blood trickle down it. The pain that came with it was unbearable and, in an effort to break free, he pulled his arm back toward him and turned toward the door. In response to this, the dogs pulled even harder, and that's when he felt it. Duo felt the savages snap the tendons in his arm and tear his arm from his body. This freed him for the moment, enough that he could open the door and scramble inside before they were on him again. Weakened by the loss of blood and in total agony, Duo barely made it in the door before he passed out.
When Jill had found him, he was still unconscious. He was just lucky that she had found him and not one of the creatures that were roaming the mansion. At first she thought that Duo was dead, for he was pale white and lying in a pool of his own blood. She had heard him call himself the god of death before, but she highly doubted that this was what he had meant. As she stepped closer, she could see that he was breathing and, when she checked, he still had a pulse. He was the first Bravo team member she had seen alive since she had gotten here. But his arm was a gruesome sight. All that was left of his forearm were a few jagged pieces of muscle and tendon, and a sliver of blood drenched skin. It was a tangled mess and it hadn't even stopped bleeding yet, so Jill had taken off on of her belts and tied it tightly around his arm to stop the bleeding. When she did this, Duo shuddered and suddenly awoke. Jill told him that she would take care of him until they could get out of that horrible place. She felt sorry for him since she knew that he, like herself, was a former thief.
The other S.T.A.R.S. members had also taken their turns to help Duo. For this he is very grateful. If it weren't for their help, he probably would have died in that horrible place. They had valued his life more than he had ever even valued it himself. Today he has learned what a precious thing life really is and vows never to let his curiosity get the best of him again. As the helicopter reaches the hospital, Duo slides his left hand into his pants pocket to find his rosary and he prays that God will get him through this ordeal.
