I love my life. It's quiet, it's peaceful.
It has not always been this way, there have been demons, there have been drugs,
but it's over now. Demons do not longer live on this planet. A last big battle
erased them from our universe.
That was 10 years ago.
Now I live on my farm with my wife and our five children. I look at the window of my house and see her standing behind it, smiling at me. I smile back and raise a hand waving. I am sitting in the grass and look to my side and see my youngest daughter, she is three. I love her, she is blonde like Buffy. Did I mention my wife's name is Buffy?
Maybe I forgot.
I met her in college and knew she was the one. We got married after the final
battle and we are so happy. I look at her again, her head is now turned to the
side, she has the most beautiful profile.
The door opens and she steps out of the house, her belly swollen with the next
child we expect. We want a big family.
"Hi Riley," she says.
I look up and smile: "Buffy, my love. You're beautiful."
Suddenly two men come out of the house behind her. I frown because I do not know
them, I try to remember, but I fail. I never saw them going inside. Buffy turns
to them and I hear her saying: "He's still not better, I guess."
"No," one of the men replies, he's dressed all white.
What the hell are they talking about. I am fine, I feel happy and content. I look at the second man standing in the door, he looks familiar, but I am not sure. He takes Buffy's hand.
"Hey, let go of my wife," I tell him and give him a dirty look.
"I think you better leave now. You see, he's still in his own little world," the
first man says. "But it's good of you to see him from time to time. One never
knows, maybe he'll recover. He never gets any other visitors."
"I doubt it," the second, familiar looking man says. "The demon he was attacked by injected his poison into him. It destroys people's minds."
"Yeah," the other man replies.
"Take good care of him," Buffy says. What is she talking about. I can take care
of myself, I take care of my family most of the time. "He was ... is a friend,"
she adds, then she and the familiar man turn around and I hear her whisper:
"Let's go home, Angel. This is too depressing." And then the door closes.
Angel. Now I remember. My mother told me about angels. But I never thought they
would be male, dark haired and holding my wife's hand. Maybe my life isn't so
perfect after all.
