Vegeta
stood on top of Capsule Corps watching the sun dip beneath the horizon with a
flash of reds and oranges. Then it was
early evening the lighter blue taking over the sky and the darker shade not far
behind. Only one thing could ruin this
serenity he was feeling and he could smell it coming a mile away.
"Vegeta? Where are you?" she called from below.
He looked
down but said nothing. Out of some gut
instinct she looked up to find him staring down at her. He continued to watch as she disappeared
from his view. Minutes later he heard
him trodding up behind him. Still he
said nothing.
"Dinner's
ready," she said. Not even a nod from
him. "Did you hear me?" She walked closer intruding on his personal
space.
"If you're
not down in ten minutes the food is going down the garbage chute," she
warned. He could just feel that finger
of hers wagging back and forth behind him.
He continued to stare at the darkening sky completely immobile.
A sigh
escaped from her lips, an indication she was ready to give up. Maybe now she would leave him alone. No such luck. Instead she stood there with him staring toward the horizon as
well.
He couldn't
quite describe it. He liked being
alone. He didn't need anyone. Never did.
Then he met her and things began to change slowly. Like now for instance. Had it been anyone else up here with him he
would've blasted them away by now or at least told them to leave him
alone. But not with her. He could tolerate being with her
sometimes. Sometimes he could even
imagine that she felt just as alone as he did.
Sometimes.
She looked
over at him every once in a while to see if he would acknowledge her
presence. She could handle him yelling
at her and cursing her out but when he became quiet and indifferent she
felt…she couldn't quite describe it. He
truly was an enigma to her and to everyone else. But sometimes she thought she could understand him. Like now for instance. The way he was standing up here all alone
staring at the sky as if it held all the answers to whatever questions he may
have…she could almost understand what he might be feeling right then. The sky sure was beautiful. It seemed to stretch on forever. These were the moments she liked. When they were together and not biting each
other's heads off. She felt
peaceful. Something that her normal
hectic day never allowed. She liked
that about him. Every once in a while
he was able to create an atmosphere of tranquility where she could walk into
and share with him. Just one of those
moments…where everything felt right with the world.
"Will you
come down now?" she asked in a whisper.
Without a
reply he flew down to the ground while she used the more standard method. With a last look at the night sky she
descended down the ladder.
