Longing Watch

I watch him. I watch him as he paces. The war is at a peak, not it's highest, but this is a turning point. The last thing he needs is Cassie's bullshit about morals. He's being worn out. I want to hold him, gather him in my arms and whisper "everything will be just fine.", but I can't. I've loved him for a while now, but can't say anything. Why would he want me? He has Cassie, and I'm a fellow guy. The group departs, as Cassie runs away in tears. Jake snapped at her. Poor little girl. She can't handle Jake's temper. I can.

I can imagine sex with Jake when he's mad. The storm that lies dormant in him is a powerful one. I can feel him, his anger and raw need combining as we make love. I ride that wave of rage and passion, harnessing it until I release it with shouts of euphoria in a climatic finish. Then his rage will fade as he whispers words of love into my ear. I watch Jake as he storms away from the meeting area, snapping me out of my revere. I follow him.

"Jake."

"Hey." He gives me a half-hearted smile as he slows so I can catch up.

"Listen, Cassie's just trying to grasp a hold of what she feels she's lost." What the...?! Where the hell did that come from?!

"I know." He sighed, "I don't love her anymore."

"What?" I tried to cover my joy with surprise.

"I don't know how it happened. Somewhere along the line I relized that she's not what I want. Ax loves her."

"Come again?" We stopped at the lake.

"You can see it when he looks at her." Jake looked out over the surface of the water, then at me.

"I don't know what to say. I'm not gonna say I'm sorry though." I said.

"You're acting weird. What's up?" Jake asked. It felt as though he was looking into my soul. As if he knew what was wrong and wanted me to admit it. 'Don't you know?!' I felt like shouting, 'Can't you see that I love you?!'

"You don't wanna know." Was all I said.

"Yeah, I do. You're my friend."

"I'm worried about you." I said, which is true. "You're carrying the weight of the world in your hands, and it's burning them. Pretty soon you're going to have to let go or you'll get hurt."

"You're not making sence." Jake said, with a quizical look.

I looked out over the lake's surface, "You're fighting to save the world, and yet you have to deal with your own problems on top of it, not to mention you're holding something back. You're going to wind up dead if you don't let go of one or the other." I turned around and was about to leave him to dwell on my words.

"...... you're right." I stopped. "About me holding something back. I fell in love with someone else when I feel out of love with Cassie."

"Who?"

He smiled at me, and pulled me into a hug, "You, Marco. You."

I stared up at him face, and smiled, "About time."

He looked amused, "Really?"

"I've been in love with you for the longest time."

He smiled, and kissed me, "Aren't you glad you waited?"

We kissed again, and my longing watch ended.
