Chapter 1: Parchment and Green Ink

I started out the lazy July day like any other. Waking up past noon. Letting out my dogs. As I waited for them to do their business I noticed that there was oddly enough, mail already. Curious that the postman was working at such an early time (our mail arrived around four.) There was only one letter addressed in emerald green ink. The paper seemed to be some sort of parchment. You can imagine my surprise when it turned out to be addressed to me.

I sat down on my couch, feeling dazed and slightly confused. I wondered where this had come from. Not being able to stand it anymore I ripped open the letter and found several pieces of parchment. I skimmed over them and I nearly fainted. The contained information saying that I was a witch and I was to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizidary. Suddenly a shrill from the telephone broke the silence.
"Hello," I said picking up the reciever.
"OH MY GOD," my friend Christine shouted into the phone.
"What? It can't be as strange as what happened to me," I said impaitently.
"I got a letter from some school saying I'm a witch," Christine said rather quickly. Dead silence followed.
"So did I!" I exclaimed.
"But some of it sounds ridiculous, like where are we to purchase a cauldron or owl?" Christine reminded."Also, it's a boarding school. Would you really wanna leave home?"
"Are you kidding me? This would be the best chance to cast spells on Joey and P.J. (my older brothers.). I exclaimed.
"True. Well my parents are home, I have to ask them. Buh-bye." Christine said. I hung up the reciever and glanced at the clock. It read two-fifteen. I gathered up my parchment. I began to read it slowly absorbing every word. I also noticed a major problem. This school train was in England. I lived in the United States. I felt kind of upset since I had been looking foward to this. I mean how would I get there? Just then I heard my mother knocking on the door. I unlocked it immediately and began to excitedly show her the parchment. And then Mom told me something I would never expect to hear.
"I always knew you were a witch," She said confidently.
"How...." I stammered.
"Why one of my cousins is one. I found out by eavsdropping."My mother said with a sly smile.
"So I can go?" I said hopefully.
"Absolutely.I'll write to them and ask them where we can get this kind of stuff. And as for your father I will tell him myself.
"Christine got one too!" I practically yelled."I won't have to be alone in all this."
"Oh she can come with us to get the supplies." Mom said. My heart leaped. This school sounded so interesting. I just wished I knew more about it. I felt slightly dazed as I made my way to my bedroom and laid down upon the large bed. I reread the note looking at my next year's schoolbooks. I wondered what kind of classes I would be able to take. Slowly the day faded in to night and my mother informed me that I would be able to get my things tomorrow therefore I would need lots of rest.
