I saw a sneak preview of the movie on July 9th,
so don't read this if you don't want spoilers.
I consider that fair warning.
This will probably also only make sense once you have seen the movie, I
just had to get it down on proverbial paper when inspiration struck.
FF: TSW belongs to Square Productions. I don't own them, I'm just obeying the
storyline in my head which decided to burst forth. Don't sue, I don't have anything of value.
The End Is Just The Beginning
By Kaylenn Mir
She gathered him closer as the flatbed began to rise in the
air, unwilling to let him go. Why
did he have to say it? She thought.
Why couldn't he let me reply?
Now he's gone forever. He can't
be gone, he can't.
This thought ran through her head over and over like a mantra
as the flatbed cleared the final rock outcropping, and her mind went
blank. She blinked at the snow-covered
mountains that had not been there when they had entered the impact crater. It was a whole new world. The cry of a circling hawk drew her out of
her reverie. It was the survivor,
waiting for life to return. That coaxed
a smile from her saddened heart. "It's
returned, my friend." She whispered.
And at least someone got the good end of this deal… she finished
unspoken.
And just as that thought crossed her mind, the body in her
arms shifted. She looked down in
amazement as Gray's eyes slowly began to open.
He coughed quietly, looking up at her with confusion in his eyes. "I must be in heaven," he rasped out,
"because I'm looking at an angel." Aki
gasped, wondering when it was that she had stopped breathing. Without a second thought she drew him into
the circle of her arms and suddenly the tears started to fall.
He sat up with a groan and turned, pulling her into his lap
and holding her head to his chest.
"Come here. It's over now. It's all over." He stroked her hair gently as she finally succumbed to the events
they had just survived.
She lifted her head up, blinking in the sunlight. "You're really here. I thought you were gone… I thought you had
left me."
"I'll never leave you, I promise." The words were just what
she needed to hear. She leaned against
him again, relaxed for the first time since her infestation. "I'm not promising an easy ride Aki, but
we'll get through whatever comes our way."
"I know. And I love
you for that." She gripped him tighter
as she said that, needing the reassurance that his body gave her. He pulled back for a moment to look her in
the eyes, to see the truth behind her words.
And it was all he needed.
"The war is over now.
Maybe, just maybe, we can learn to live again. I'm certainly ready to try."
And he leaned over to claim her mouth in a gentle kiss. A kiss which marked the beginning of the
rest of their lives.

AN: I know, it's pure WAFF, but I had to. The idea struck me as soon as I saw the end,
and I thought I saw Gray breath. I've
got a few more ideas which I may also post if I get good feedback on this one.
