Proving Grounds
Chapter 1: Briefing
The NTF Hectate destroyer rocked with explosions. The crew of the destroyer was forced to hold on to something stable so as not to fall over.
"All pilots to the briefing room! All pilots to the briefing room!" the loudspeakers boomed. As pilots stumbled to their respective destinations, the loudspeakers continues booming instructions to other parts of the crew.
"Who attacked us this time? I thought that the node was guarded!" said a dark haired man, Matt Guernez, to a wingman. He was obviously new to the NTF, because all veterans of the NTF were always expected for anything at any time. In addition, he was visibly nervous. His brow was sweaty, and he had an expression on his face that made him look like he was ready to faint. His first days in the NTF (and any military force, in general) had not been good. Three days before the attack, he had been part of the crew of a GTVA Leviathan class cruiser, the Quet. Only after a few hours, NTF forces had attacked the station where the Quet was stationed and disabled and captured the cruiser. Matt, afraid of what the NTF would do to him if he did not, defected. He had been quickly trained in flying the Zeus bombers that were plentiful in the NTF fleet, and then had been assigned to the NTD LongBow. This would be his first time flying outside of combat simulators, and needless to say, he wished it would be pleasure-flying instead of this.
"I don't know. We'll find out in the briefing," replied a blonde man named Corran Smith. They walked into a room already filled with six other people from their squadron.
"Ok, now that everyone's here, I'll start the briefing. This'll have to be quick, because we're under heavy attack from two GTVA destroyers, the Yamamoto and the Napoleon, both Orion class destroyers.
They've already taken out our engines, so we can't just warp away. When we either disable or destroy those destroyers, an Elysium class transport will warp in to repair our engines.
Alpha, you'll cover and destroy fighters launched from the two destroyers. Beta, you'll be bombing. Beta 4," Matt nodded, "since this is your first real flight, you'll have to watch the others... But I do want you bombing. Dismissed."
The mission objectives displayed on the screen. The pilots rushed to their respective fighters and bombers, strapped themselves in, and flew out of the hangars.
The 121st Flying Razors were making their mark on history.
