The Morning Light

Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing. I never have, and I never will. The characters that I mention in my story just skip around in my mind until I get so sick of them that I write a story and then they all calm down and share a picnic together. *grin* (Okie.......note to self: Lay off the cappuccinos for a while.....*blink*) Ja ne!

A sliver of pale early morning light drifted through an open window and slowly traveled along the floor. Finally, it came to rest on a pale, sleeping face. A pair of violet eyes slowly opened as the owner stretched and yawned.

Duo blinked sleepily, then looked outside the window. It was very early, the sun just barely coming over the distant horizon. Stretching once more, he swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood up, making his way slowly towards the window. He cursed softly when he stumbled over one of the many weapons littering the floor. Duo glared darkly at the large gun, then continued towards his goal.

He quickly reached the window, his unbound chestnut hair flowing softly around him. He shoved the hair out of his face and closed his eyes, softly welcoming the light of dawn into his soul.

Another day I lived through........he thought to himself. Who'd ever thought that Shinigami, the great God of Death himself, welcomes the dawn with an open heart? I am one with the night, yet I am also one with the dawn. A time when night fades, but true day has yet to come.

He breathed deeply, drawing the early morning scents deep into his lungs. A fresh scent, like how the earth smells after a long rain shower, surrounded him; refreshing him with it's pureness.

Duo once again opened his eyes, and a smile of pure joy broke out across his face as the sun slowly broke out over the horizon, the start of another day. The sky was filled with deep oranges, bright pinks, and a blue that can only be found at the center of a cool flame.

With one more look at the sky, Duo turned around and quickly braided his long hair, preparing for the start of yet another day. A day that would probably be filled with bloodshed and death. But still, Duo knew that tomorrow the sun would rise, and he would welcome it into his heart.......and his soul.
