Disclaimers: Don't own 'em, don't want to. They belong to
the nice people at Bandi (action satisfaction), and all the other corporate
conglomerates, which are slowly taking over the airwaves with the help of our
own complacent government.
Welcome
everyone to History 251: Near Earth Historical Colonization, a Survey. In this
class we will look at the inter-personal relationships between the main actors
during the Colony Incidents. As all of you know, the major players in this time
where the Gundam Pilots: Heero Yui, Duo Maxwell, Quatra Rababba Winner, Trowa
Barton, and Wu Fei Chang. Oz with: Treize Khushrenada, Lady Une, Lucratiza
Noin, and Sally Poe. White Fang with: Zechs Marquise, and Dorothy Catolonia,
and finally the non-aligned with Relena Peacecraft and the enigmatic Howard.
Now,
I'm sure you've all ready the various "Historical Fiction" that clogs the pipes
of the Data Sphere. These "Hisfics" most often allude to sexual relationships
between the major actors; known to this nitch as "Yaoi" "Yuri" or "Slash". Even
some prominent scholars have defended this view, most notably Bertelmen in
Volume 67 of The Journal Gundam, were she notes the sexual tension
between Winner and Barton, and the lack of historical data for the first 2
meetings. She draws the conclusion that these two meetings were nothing more
then sexual encounters, but more recent academics disagree, a subject that we
will get to latter in the course.
And
of course there is the obvious sexual tension between Marquise and Noin. If any
relationship was to be fulfilled, this is it. But as Yelle noted in her
masterwork Inter-Personal Relationships in Near Earth and Earth Conflicts
Prior to AC 300; an Overview, Noin's two top students, Alex and Muhler, who
today are noted as the men who broke the gender barrier in inter-college
synchronized swimming competitions, seemed to have a romantic interest in their
teacher, and it is not unfeasible that it was fulfilled.
But
that is a side note. Possibly the most important "Yaoi" interaction would be between
Yui, Maxwell, and Peacecraft. For those of you taking notes, refer to "Can a
Triangle Stand?" in Essays in the Philosophy of Gundam, Vol. 92 and "On
Love and Guerilla War" in The Lunar Journal of Gundam, Vol. 17.
Both
these articles will give you a good understanding in the facts, which are that
during the Peacecraft-Yui failed marriage, the latter would go on various
"undercover assignments" for weeks at a time with Maxwell. While "Can a
Triangle…" posits that these were nothing more then routine missions, "On
Love…" points out that during these periods, no fighting was ever reported, and
several strange charges would be seen on Maxwell's government expense account.
While Maxwell claimed that all of those items were needed for global security,
some my doubt the necessity of leather bondage masks in guerrilla combat.
But
the legendary split up between Yui and Peacecraft might not have been entirely
the former's fault. As "School Trips" in The Journal of Neo psychological
Analysis Vol. 109 points out, even before Yui's excursions, Peacecraft
would take "Fact finding trips" with her former schoolmate Catolonia were just
as interesting "Fact finding equipment" would be charged to both of their
accounts.
Well,
there's the bell. Remember your homework, pages 1-40 in An Introduction to
Gundam.
