Of Birdies and Babies
Nagi sighed and chewed on his lower lip. This was not good. He'd had to stay after school-detention again-and now he needed a ride home. He had considered walking, but it was summer, and they lived a good 20 miles from his private school. He'd called home, hoping that Crawford would be the one to pick up.
He wasn't. Schuldich had picked up the phone, and after explaining that Crawford was in a meeting, insisted that he would be right over to pick the boy up from school. Damn. Schuldich wasn't the...best of drivers. In fact, he had a tendency to speed, run red lights, and crash through solid brick walls. Nagi's only other choice would have been Farfarello, and he wasn't allowed to drive for obvious reasons. It usually took Crawford about 25 minutes to get to Nagi's school; Schuldich took 15.
Nagi sighed again as Schuldich finally pulled up-exactly 17 minutes after he had called. He frowned at the older man who grinned up at him from the convertible, "Schuldich, I am not getting into the car until you change that song."
The German pouted, "Oi oi, what's wrong with 'Peony Pink'? You were the one that got me hooked on CLAMP in the first place." He did change the song though; something in German with a techno-pop-ish beat.
Nagi frowned, "I don't like that one, either..." reluctantly, he got into the car, fastening the seatbelt as tight as possible. "I don't suppose there's any way you'd let me drive, is there?"
The redhead smirked, "I think not, Chibi. There's laws here...even if I don't follow 'em, you gotta. And until you're of legal age, you're screwed." He took off with a screech of rubber against asphalt, and laughed at Nagi's little whimper of protest.
Ten minutes...I can last ten minutes with him...The boy's knuckles now sported a lovely shade of white as they clung to the doorframe. Ten minutes, ten minutes, only ten minutes...
Schuldich laughed again, "What's wrong, Chibi? Afraid of my driving?"
Nagi decided it best not to answer that. He closed his eyes and tried to sleep. **Maybe it won't be so bad if I'm asleep...**
Several minutes, two songs, and several shouts of 'abunai!' later, they pulled into the neighbourhood Schuldich liked to take-he said it was a 'shortcut'. It was summer; birds were everywhere. Schuldich hated birds. They were always chirping and singing and being so damned happy in the morning when he was trying to sleep. Damned birds. Not that he would ever actually hit one; he usually swerved to miss them.
There was a small cluster of birds in the road, 5, 10 of them, all sitting there, minding their own business. At least, that's what Nagi thought. "Hey! Watch out for the birds!"
And Schuldich did. He swerved to miss the birds-and ran over a small blonde girl who couldn't have been more then five. "Did I hit any birds?!" green eyes went wide.
"Schuldich...you hit a little girl!"
"But no birds, right?" he picked up speed again, racing towards home.
"No birds...you mean to tell me you're afraid to hit a bird, but you have no qualms what so ever about hitting a little girl!?"
Schuldich sighed, relieved, "One less mind."
